So, I’m sure a lot of us know who Brain Reed is by now. If you don’t, he’s the lead writer for Halo 5’s campaign.
I’m going to be honest, I don’t like the writing of Halo 5 by any means, but He got harassed on Twitter by fellow community members.
I don’t know if it was 5 people or 20, but it was enough for him to deactivate his Twitter, I feel really bad for him.
This is really sad and disgusting, people in THIS community harassed him because they didn’t like the way he helped write the story.
Giving real criticism is really important, but harassment is awful, it can ruin someone’s day, sometimes even somebody’s career… or life.
This isn’t how we treat people.
Here’s my opinion to the Halo community, If you have something to complain about, keep it to yourself or make it constructive criticism, no harassment.
it’s wrong and immature.
If you like Brian or not, he helped write a better story than most of us could.
There’s a lot more that goes into writing and development than we think.
I just wanted to apologize for the people that wont.
We’re all Halo fans here, let’s try to be a little more positive.

“Man writes horrible campaign, gets hate”
In other news, “Water is wet”
Buncha children, those who would take a video game personally. -Yoink- those guys.
Well, it’s not just halo Fans, lots of other people hate his work at Marvel and most of his other writing is heavily criticized. However, it’s not necessary to harass the guy, while I dislike him quite a bit, he shouldn’t get hate flung at him.
At first I really hated the campaign, but after going through to get skulls and Intel I came to appreciate it. In any event another person shouldn’t be harassed like that by scum.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t this happen some months ago?

Your missing the point. The hate is because of what he wrote that shouldnt devolve into personal attacks.
That isnt right, those who attacked him should be ashamed of themselves.

I think so, but I just watched a video on the Halo Collective about this that came out today, and it made me want to talk about it.

Was that a BvS reference?
In any case, the point is that you shouldn’t attack someone personally just because you dislike their work.
And that was a horrible thing for people to do. Sadly, people would rather act like raging chimps than approach things critically. I don’t like Reed’s writing and I felt he said some dumb things on Twitter, but harassment is counter-productive to dialogue with devs.
Hey, people get criticized all the time for what they do.
The thing is, as long as you’re proud of what you’ve done, then you shouldn’t care about what other people think.
Of course, you should always take criticism, but there’s no need to hide or run just because of a few morons and trolls.
Just get back up on your feet, and improve each and every time.

I agree.

Took the words right out of my mouth.

I feel the harassment is completely warranted. We live in a society where being PC is more important than being critical of any mistake or wrong doing. A lot of industries have learned to ignore consumer complaints bc their isn’t really any backlash for it and it’s much easier than expending effort. They’ll continue lazy writing unless we as a community are completely critical. The fact remains that a lot of writers and halo community members are critical of the man but 343 still employs him. We need to make it known that we are not happy with the decisions they have made and there is literally no other way than to be extremely critical or they will simply ignore the input. I’d say alot of the dlc we are getting is bc the community had an uproar for lack of content. If we hadn’t outraged we’d probably have an even more watered down version of dlc.
I was concerned until I read “… On twitter”
when I read the title i guess I was under the impression he was actually being harassed. like, in real life, not “harrassed” as in, people said mean things to him on twitter

Online harassment doesn’t exist. See if you can guess which part of this picture will make all of that go away, no questions asked?
Getting harassing phone calls or hate mail is one thing because that implies knowledge of personal details that only someone who knows your physical location would be able to get a hold of. The internet, on the other hand is meaningless. I conclude by asking you to google Tyler, The Creator’s words of wisdom on cyberbullying.

I should feel bad, but I honestly don’t. He struck out three times with Halo (Spartans Ops, Escalation, Halo 5)… what was done was harsh, yes. But at least now we know for sure that he knows we don’t like his work with Halo.
Idk I liked his Ms Marvel run. And his Secret Invasion tie ins were good. Front Line was especially good. People take Halo way too seriously

HAHAHAHAHAHA, thats not a good defense considering 99.999% of the community arn’t writers. I like many others could write a better story than him, and i dont even have much experience nor am i a writer by trader. You hire writers because you want the story to be at a professional level. Halo 5 wasn’t.
I hate bullying and harassment, but its not harassment to say he wrote a horrible story and HAS to be fired. Even if he claims its not his fault it still is because hes the lead writer, all the story ideas had to be given the ok by him.
Also Twitter is cancer, if hes on it he needs thicker skin, otherwise removing his account was the correct action.
