Sprinting and thrusting and clambering and smart-aiming doesn’t turn Halo 5 into a CoD game. It has always been about the arena setting, and time-to-kill. The arena setting is finally back after playing through Reach and 4. The time-to-kill is still the same as all the old games. Everyone is equal, and it all revolves on skill with the player, not what loadout you choose and where you are on the map.
So just play the Beta, and lose all bias you have and ask yourself if you enjoy Halo 5. If you don’t for some reason, tell 343i and they WILL tweak it.
343i is a company with several million classic players. They don’t want to lose those people, but they want to get new players in to. So just trust them.
It does indeed play like a true halo game, and anybody who says otherwise needs to take their head out of their -Yoink-, quit being ignorant, research, watch, and on the 29th, play for yourself. This is NOT halo 4, people. This is arena style, halo 2/3 gameplay with movement upgrades. That’s all it is. No loadouts and no tradeoff armor abilities. This game contains even playing fields, with weapon spawns on map. Halo 5 IS what we asked for! With a modernized movement touch! They went in the correct direction improving base player abilities, rather than loadouts. So everyone stop your damn complaining, and thank 343 for listening to the classic halo players.

Would you like to state the reasoning behind that opinion? how about a decent conversation rather than a mindless comment? I did not enjoy the mechanics in halo 4. I appreciate the return to arena gameplay with standardized abilities. It’s a hell of a lot better than loadouts
…I feel like I heard this a lot when halo 4 was about to be released, and I am hearing it a lot now. o_o

This time it is true. The gameplay footage is there. The beta is coming. So with all of this at your disposal, can’t you do the research and check it out for yourself? I seriously don’t recall anyone ever saying that halo 4 was a return to halo style gameplay, so I don’t understand…

> Why do you think that newer FPS’s like CoD, Battlefield, and others are so popular? Because they’re newer. CoD practically invented the Modern FPS with Call of Duty 4. It became the new standard. Arena Shooters? They became outdated around that time and as such fell out of favor with the mainstream gaming community. Yeah, there are still a lot of people who like classic arena shooters, I don’t disagree with that. But the fact is, the FPS has evolved and Halo is being left in the dust. Reach and 4 tried to cater to that new fanbase while still trying to copy the previous games in the series and that utterly failed because the implementation of modern features just wasn’t very good. But you know what? 343 has listened and has learned. You need only take a look at what Halo 5: Guardians really is: A Next-Generation Arena Shooter. It is not a Classic Arena Shooter, and that is why in my opinion it should not be held to the same standards as older games. The gaming landscape has changed, and all games must adapt or die. That is just how things are. They can’t just cater to that hardcore fanbase otherwise the game will surely die.

> People complain about maps being bigger because of Sprint, but what does that really matter? Yes, in a classic arena shooter, bigger maps are generally a bad thing, especially for 4v4 matches. But Halo is trying to reinvent the arena shooter wheel by turning the triangle into a square. Guns, Grenades, Melee, and Spartan Abilities. Four traits that every player starts with and has access to. The thing about Spartan Abilities is that they are all about movement. Ground Pound and Charge are more or less the only two offensive abilities, and even then they come with consequences should you fail. All previous Halo games were built around base movement speed and what you could naturally do without pickups. Sprint was never really taken into account even when it was a default ability. They stretched the maps, but never considered how it effected the gameplay. Now they do know how it effects the gameplay and that has been taken into account. The same can be said about the rest of the abilities. As Greenskull put it in a Q&A he did on Reddit today, Clamber in no way invalidates crouch jumping and it is not the “get out of jail free card” that many think it is. There is a very small area where clamber actually works, if you miss that tiny window, clamber is of no use to you. There is nothing wrong with thruster pack considering you can still shoot while using it. You can still shoot while sliding. Really all these abilities do is add more dynamics to the classic arena gameplay that makes it fresh and new. They make the game faster, but the kill times are still the same. Many sight Greenskulls Halo 5 videos as evidence that kill times are insanely fast, but he clarified today that the reason his opponents die so fast was because his teammates were shooting at them as well, which gave the illusion of quick deaths.

> Halo does not need another reskin. We don’t need Halo: CE.5, Halo 2.5, or Halo 3.5. What we need is Halo 5: Guardians. Halo 2 Anniversary is your Halo 2.5. Play that for the rest of your gaming days if you want a new, classic experience. But otherwise, Halo needs to employ evolved combat if it is to stay relevant in the gaming world, not rely on outdated, but tried and true tactics. They make not have been broken, but outdated technology often needs to be replaced to maintain relevance in modern society. Tell me, would you rather be using a cheap CRT TV, or a crisp and clear HDTV? Nine times out of ten you’ll probably hear HDTV. Would you like a fridge with or without an ice cube maker? It’s a small difference, but a lot of people like ice in their drinks so they’d likely replace their perfectly good refrigerator with a newer one that has an ice cube maker merely for the convenience. New appeals to far more people than you might think. And so Halo needs to become new, if it is to survive. It doesn’t need to become Call of Duty or Battlefield, and it isn’t, not anymore, but it also can’t be a reskin of Halo 2 with minor changes that don’t really change anything ala Equipment. And unfortunately, a lot of people want the latter. They convince themselves that minor changes that don’t affect the game are good for it, but actually these are far more gimmicky than Spartan Abilities.

> I have a saying: “Learn from the past, but do not live in it. Live in the present and enjoy it. Look to the future and the many possibilities that it holds.” 343 Industries learned from their past, and they learned from Halo’s past, but they seem to know not to live in it. They’re taking a look at the current gaming landscape and they see where Halo needs to go. Halo 5: Guardians is a possibility that was born from learning from the pasts mistakes. This is the Halo that many have been waiting for. What Reach and 4 should have been in the first place. What I have seen of Halo 5 looks like Halo, and those who have played it say that it feels like Halo. And soon enough, at the end of December, we will be able to play the future of Halo and put the argument to rest once and for all, if Halo 5 was the one possibility of the future that was the right choice.

Just saying I heard, “Don’t worry, it feels like Halo” a lot, and here it is again is all
We shall see… I have seen where some people want Halo to get away from arena styles. I’m not one however.

I agree with you 100%. I really think Halo 5 will be a success due to these new abilities, and I hate to say it but, I’m glad 343 are making these big changes because Halo cant stay ‘classic’ forever; it has to evolve.
