Halo 5 will die if servers are shut off

It’s a scary thought cause due to the fact that halo 5 is an online game apart from the single player campaign. Once 343i shut off the halo 5 servers the game will literally be worth nothing. What then, all these dlc updates will be worth nothing. Just think.

Did I miss something? Is there discussion of removing dedicated servers?

Well, even single player would be butchered. If you play offline, you won’t be able to choose specific levels and progress won’t save.

I think it is time to take off the tin foil hat…Why would they shut it off? Do enlighten me

Isn’t it a little early to be worrying about those things? Halo 3 is nine years old and you can play online just fine there.

Its like asking why would Macdonalds ever stop selling burgers

Nope. OP is being dramatic, trying to spread the “hate 343i” agenda.

Perfect analogy.

My understanding is Microsoft shut off the Original Xbox servers, so they turned off all functionality for every original Xbox game. It had nothing to do with Bungie.

This applies to literally any game that has online MP…no servers = no games = no players…but there’s legitimately no reason for 343i to shut down the servers so calm down.

I don’t think that’s something you have to worry about any time soon…

My guess is he’s talking about what MS is going to do to Forza Horizon… They said the game is reaching “End of Life” status and they’re going to shut it down and take it off the store forever, so you won’t even be able to buy the game in the future… The game isn’t even four full years old, yet. So it looks like MS might be trying to set a precedent for when it’s okay to totally abandon it’s games. That’s more than a little effed up, don’t you think? Are games just going to expire from now on? Imagine if all of those Genesis, SNES, N64, or ANY games from your past just stopped being a thing.

I’m going to assume it is based off population. Why keep paying for upkeep and support if only say 100 people are playing it on the reg?

By the time you even begin to worry about that, Halo 8 would already be out and people will complain about that game instead.

That’s most likely because of licensing on the car brands or the licensing of the music in that game is coming to an end.

Not trying to be dramatic or trying to spread 343 hate but eventually this game will die as the servers will eventually be shut off. Don’t ask me when I’m just saying it will happen. I’m just criticising the fact halo 5 is basically a fully online game and to those who continue to play it well into the future will indirectly be robbed as they would no longer be able to access the majority of the game they bought.

That is natural like how playstation 2 servers were brought down. Its common sense to bring down outdated servers. By the time H5 servers are down we would be at least 2 gen console tech ahead. Why ask this question lol. And well into the future you say, like the guy mentioned H7 or H8 if they have those

…Duh.
Isn’t this the case with any online video game that has ever used dedicated servers exclusively? Some PC games have been modded to allow P2P connections to allow play long after the servers were shut down (SWBF2 is a prime example), but for console games, server shutdown locking the game from play is an inevitability.

Oh my god! It all makes sense now! The crop circles! Area 51! Lady Gaga! The servers are falling! The servers are falling! runs away screaming

NSA now at your door

Dont worry OP. MCC2 will be out by that point. Just play it there, eventually.
