Halo 5 will be epic.

After restlessly perusing the forums and seeing all the hate people have to throw at H5, I’m shocked. Now granted, there will always be people who whine about the slightest thing, and are stuck living with nostalgia goggles, etc. But I just don’t understand how people can actually try to justify condemning this game.

Let me tell you a short story. I played Halo: CE back in 2001 at 7 years old. I saw stars. It was amazing. I played Halo 2. It as well, was great. Halo 3 was the first midnight launch I ever went to, where I met a lot of friends, and planted the seeds of a lot of memories - one of the best times of my life and one of the most memorable multiplayer experiences of all time. I loved ODST and Reach, too; friends and I chipped away at those daunting Vidmaster challenges, had epic moments, laughed like idiots, and crushed each other in Forge. Now, Halo 4 stirred up somewhat of a hornet’s nest with the community, but I for one thought it was a great game - albeit nothing like its predecessors - with some things that could stand to be hugely improved. I’m 21 now, and I own every single book, and am still catching up on Escalation, but naturally life gets in the way. So when someone mentions the word “Halo” to me, it’s more than just a video game, it’s a sizable chunk of my life, and one that I’m proud of.

Now, I know I’m not the only one who has had these experiences, and that I share this passion with a lot of people, and that’s fantastic, but I digress. After playing the H5 beta and feeling a great many things - disappointment, disorientation, concern, frustration - and, subsequently, seeing the changes 343 has made to the game’s core formula, flow of gameplay, multiplayer and cooperative mechanics, how they’re throwing in all the extra little details like differing HUDs for playable characters, bringing back skulls, patching the issued that plagued H4, and going the extra mile to put together an excellent and riveting ad campaign/podcast that left us foaming at the mouth for more, all these things have got me thinking: when was the last time a developer went this all-out on a Halo game? I was skeptical at first, but despite what many have to say about the direction 343 has taken, I’ll be very surprised if this isn’t the best Halo game in an awful long time.

TL;DR: I’m a long-time Halo veteran, and mark my words: Halo 5 is going to kick major -Yoink-.

Yea, I’ve been playing Halo from the start as well and am super stoked for Halo 5. I think it could be the best yet.

It’s great to see another long time fan excited for H5. I just beat H3 on heroic for like the 100th time, and I couldn’t be more ready!

H3 is currently my favorite, but I think there’s definitely a chance H5 could surpass it.

Yes me too I started playing ce when I was a kid enjoyed it very much. Loved ce and halo 2 multiplayer almost as much as I loved star wars battle front 1 and 2. I enjoyed 3s campaign but not multiplayer. Mass effect and halo 3s and reach’s campaigns are what made me stop playing my PlayStations for a bit. I loved reach’s multiplayer way more than the rest. I enjoyed 4s campaign and spartan ops but not so much multiplayer. I haven’t been able to play halo 5 yet but I have a feeling it will not be a failure like 4 was

H3 is still my favourite game. I think Halo 5 may topple it from that perch. Incredibly keen!

Your story reminded me of how my friends and I played Halo 3 together in middle school, and all the laughs we shared. I remember when Tyler panicked in the middle of a game and said “Uh-buh-duh!!” and we all fell off the couch because we were laughing too hard. Haven’t played with him and the other guys since the early days of Reach, I hope that we can get together again and take turns playing Halo 5.

Amen. Halo 5 is definitely shaping up to be the greatest Halo game in existence. I am so excited for the huge campaign and the multiplayer which is staying true to the classic Halo’s but also innovating it. There’s one thing you forgot to mention. FREE DLC! 343 truly loves their fans and I have no doubt they are trying to make the best Halo game they can.

Been playing Halo for 11 years now, loved every single game, cant wait for halo 5!
got the days counting down on my calendar haha it looks like its going to be incredible!

I’m right there with you. I’ve been loving everything Halo since the beginning and Halo 3 was my first midnight launch as well. I’m crazy excited for 5.

I would have normally let this be and allow you guys to dsicuss however I will not tolerate remarks like that.

It’s obviously not a slight thing if people bring it up often, and we are certainly not wearing nostalgia goggles and only just want a Halo 2.5.

God.

My friend and are are finally taking on 1,2,3,4 on legendary to get the Helioskrill armor. We started with Halo 2 because I hear it is most difficult so I want it out of the way. We’re only 3 missions into 2 and its already giving us fits. Metropolis was hell. The limitless jackel snipers and the endless ghost spawning were killer. It took us like 2 hours to clear that mission. Right at the end it started lagging badly and I was worried we were going to disconnect. I would have been speechlessly pissed.

Its true though, people will complain about anything and everything.
Sprint
Clamber
AR starts
REQ packs/microtransactions
Aim down sight
Spartan abilitys
Armor customisation
Weapon variants
And everything else under the sun, the list goes on.
To me, It does give off serious vibes that people are wearing “nostalga goggles” and quite frankly if these people got their way im sure we would just have a halo 3 with better graphics, which in todays marketplace would fail miserably.

Halo 5 looks incredible, there is very little i would change about it. I cant wait.

No need to lose your temper, I think you may have misunderstood me. If you don’t like something 343 has done with H5, that’s fine by me, I don’t expect everyone to agree with me about everything, in fact I’m sure the game will have things I don’t necessarily love as well. The people I’m referring to are the people who have nothing better to do than bash H5 because it’s not exactly the same as Halo was 14 years ago. This is 2015, and let’s face it, things have changed and will continue to change.

And how do you know for sure the game that peaked Halo’s popularity would fail? It’s only gone downhill from Reach onwards, you know when Halo decided to try different things.

Sprint has been debated since 2010 and will not change most likely. The other defined points in your list are justified if you discredit those who only whine and then insult you.

If there can be an official thread on playable Elites, a cosmetic avatar in a first person game then it’s certainly fine to talk about other cosmetic features and definitely gameplay features.

Your list is fine for the most part, I just do not condone a wide negative paint stroke that we’re all just whiny babies. There are legitimate debaters out there.

Except that I didn’t “paint” anybody. I never used the word “all” or “every,” I only said that there will be people who complain and wear nostalgia goggles. I wasn’t making a wide remark about any group of people.

Your first paragraph starting with the sentence “After restlessly perusing the forums and seeing all the hate people have to throw at H5, I’m shocked”?

Stick to your guns mate, have some verbal spine lol. You should have just naturally expect resistance from that paragraph.
