In Halo 4, it was really easy to rank up to SR 130. However, commendations were really large and took forever to complete, similar to Reach.
In Halo 5, it takes a ridiculous amount of play time to Reach SR 152, but the Commendations are short. Kill 2 people with a Splinter Grenade? Commendation level 1 complete.
Why is this? On the other hand, Spartan Company Commendations take forever. Spartan Kills level 1 is 50,000 for SC, but Spartan Kills level 4 is 100 for personal. That’s pitiful. You can get that commendation done in under a week.
It seems like they’ve set up for the perfect middle. Pretty much all the employees I’ve talked to agreed that the journey to 152 is extremely too long and also too sloped.
I liked how long it took to complete specializations in Halo 4 but I also like frequent commendations because of commendation packs in Halo 5. Surprisingly, I don’t have a strong opinion one way or the other.
Halo 4 was easy to rank up. i maxed out in like 3 months i think. Im currently 130 something in halo 5. I’d like the progression through ranks to be slightly more easier to rank up. Other than that, i think the ranking is done fine. Maybe add some cool sounding ranks, or have the UNSC ranking system. Halo 3 had an intricate mix of using skill and XP to level up. The commendations are extremely easy, but i think for the SC it is perfectly reasonable. I can get 20 kills a game, multiply that by 100 people is 2,000. If everyone can play 25 games. itll only take a few days tops to reach. Personal Commendations should be a mix of halo 4 and 5, not too easy like 5, but not as difficult as 4. You have to be able to feel like you achieved something
Now, my opinion on how ranking should be Handled is down below:
I feel there should be Halo 3 style ranking. When youre human, you go through the UNSC ranks (based on skill to start you off, then XP to level up or hitting a certain skill level). If they add in playable sangheili into Halo, add a SEPARATE progression system for Sangheili and go through the covenant ranks starting with Minor and working up through the ranks based on the same system.
Every thing from commendations to rank in H4 was a joke. You could max out in that game in like two or three months. H5 has quite the grind to SR152, it’s unlikely I will get there, but I would rather have that than the joke that was H4. I do wish the H5 commendations were longer and included more weapons. I also wish the commendations were the way you unlocked the next tier of that weapon. Say after completing tier 3 you unlock the mid level per say weapon and after completing the fifth level you unlock the top tier of that weapon.
My theory: Maybe they planned the grind for 152 to take forever because they knew H6 wasn’t going to release until November 2019. That would make for plenty of time to reach it.
