Halo 5 v.2 confirmed (by Bonnie Ross)

Too long didn’t watch summary:

Bonnie thinks that:

  • halo 4 had a great story and a sucky multiplayer
  • halo 5 had a sucky story and a WONDERFUL multiplayer

Halo Infinite is the combination with which they’re gonna ‘get it right’.

Ergo, the multiplayer will be halo 5 v.2

Discuss.

interesting. Thanks for sharing

Its little info. I dont think there is much to say here. Like they said. Lets hope we get it right this time.

The interpretation of what Bonnie says got twisted… I highly doubt she was refering to Infinite being a Halo 5 V.2 but rather to get the two core elements of the game ‘right’ instead of it only being one of the two.
Both multiplayer AND the story has to set an amazing example, and it doesn’t end with it being a Halo 5 to do that, it ends with a new game which is built upon the experience 343 has gained, after developing two titles prior which had mixed reviews.

Her assessment echoes exactly how I feel.

Halo 2 and Halo 3 have my favourite Halo multiplayer. Halo 5 is my 3rd favourite and I actually wouldn’t mind a well done multiplayer in the same vein. Halo 4 had a solid campaign but the worst multiplayer of the bunch.

My principal issue with Infinite is the presentation. I know that sounds superficial, but the game just looks nowhere near the level I expect from a flagship next gen Halo, that’s all.

This.

Halo 4 has one of the best storylines, the emotion in the writing was grand.
H5s multiplayer was top notch, but a little too competitive. I love the climbing and slides, miss the jetpacks and holograms.
Playing since CE

Not my intention to twist her words in interpretation. She literally said:

Talking about 4:
“I think with halo 4 we told a beautiful story. I think that I’m really proud of what we did with the campaign, but I think we fell down with the multiplayer”

Talking about 5:
“With Halo 5 we reversed our learning…”
[…]“but then on multiplayer I’m incredibly proud of what we did with multiplayer”

on Infinite:
“so third time at the bat…I hope we learned and we’re bringing them both together and making sure that we get it right this time”

Now, to me, that really sounds like she’s saying she’s bringing halo 4 story quality and halo 5 multiplayer together. Am I not interpreting this correctly?

I completely agree with her and I’m glad they are going this route. She has it a bit oversimplified but overall yeah that sums it up.

H5 multiplayer is great

From what I seen, I expect the multiplayer to feel nothing like h5 in terms of how it feels to move around and strafe during your intense 1v1s.

So if you hated 5 you’re in luck.

If you loved 5, you’re worried.

If that’s actually an accurate representation of what she said, I completely agree. Halo 4 had the best story in the series but the worst multiplayer, whereas Halo 5 has the worst story in the series but the best multiplayer.

Unfortunately, from what I’ve seen of the story (completely jumping ahead and ditching continuing/fixing Halo 5’s story) and the gameplay (disappointingly going back to what, in my opinion, was one of the worst aspects of any Halo gameplay decision ever, with "halo 3-esque equipment/pickups), I’m extremely worried about Halo Infinite. I hope I’m wrong, but it looks like instead of putting two-and-two together and getting the best of Halo 4 and best of Halo 5, Infinite is going to do the opposite. They look like they’re trying to please everyone by merging classic with modern gameplay and story, but, in actuality, they’ll be pleasing no one. Games are at their best when developers–the real experts–stick with their actual visions instead of reactively letting a minority of vocal fans dictate things.

I completely agree with you, outside of maybe switching Halo 3 and Halo 5.

Halo 2 was perfection for me in the feel and all the guns. Halo 3’s BR was my least favorite rendition of the BR, which is bad since its one of the most important and widely used guns in Halo. Halo 5 just felt super refined and smooth. You felt like a Spartan on the field. Sure it wasn’t “classic halo” gameplay and that was fine with me. The reason why I’ve dumped more time than I would like to admit into it.

Halo 4 has the best storytelling by far, with the original trilogy having the best set pieces and campaigns.

If they made a Halo 4 story, Halo 3 campaign, and Halo 5 multiplayer I will play this game forever.

I wholeheartedly agree with your post. That sounds like an ideal Halo game to me too

I’m hoping for H5 multiplayer with equipment and a general slowdown of gameplay. I can live with most of the design of H5 MP (it kept me engaged longer than anything since H3) if everything gets a polish-pass and a general slowdown.

Exactly, I agree.

Obviously we have seen very little, and there may be many abilities left to show. However besides the demo there was also a campaign trailer which showed weapons and areas not in the demo. Both the demo and the trailer displayed the same amount of abilities for Chief, which when compared to Halo 5 is remarkably scaled back. I am going to assume this is the basic range of abilities we will be able to use by default this time around.

I am in favor of this. I don’t interpret the above statement as “Halo 5 multiplayer 2.0”, rather they will take the level of quality given to Halo 4’s narrative and Halo 5’s multiplayer to bring us Halo Infinite.
