Anyone that doesn’t want to view potential spoilers (and spoilers) should not continue reading!
Here’s my theory about the “Halo 5” trailer and what it’s trying to show:
I believe that the machine within the trailer contains Mendicant Bias. Now, Mendicant Bias is the Forerunner AI that betrayed them and aided The Flood.
Mendicant Bias was buried under the sands of The Ark and the description given of this event is a close match to what we whiteness in the “Halo 5” trailer.
The Forerunners buried Mendicant Bias because of his invaluable knowledge of the flood. And should The Flood return Mendicant Bias would be re-awoken to aid in defeating them.
If you also notice, Chief is carrying an AI chip BUT Cortana’s was destroyed in the mission Midnight. So, Chief has an empty chip and that machine may contain the Forerunner AI known as Mendicant Bias…do you see how all this could fit together?
If this is true, what could it mean? I suppose the biggest question would be “have The Flood returned?” Why else would Chief seek out Mendicant Bias?
I’d like to add that Mendicant Bias attempts to communicate with John in the Halo 3 terminals.
Also we know a fragment of Mendicant Bias was on the Forerunner Dreadnought in High Charity and suffered the same fate as this Dreadnought, but that does not mean he’s dead. UNSC AI’s can make a fragment of themselves…Endless Summer does this in Ghosts of Onyx, to share information with Kurt.
Obviously this is still a theory, but I believe 343i left hints within the teaser (obviously) so the Mendicant Bias theory is a possibility.
What do people think?
Mendicant Bias, the Ark, Chief beaten to hell.

I would like to add to this; Chief has formed new cracks and more battle damage on his armour. He is purposely wearing a cloak, in the avatar award, notice how even his boots are covered, and how his chest piece isn’t so “big” ( or gone albeit). He also seems to have, when opening his arm to an AI chip, a sense of remorse and sadness( he is no longer the machine). Also, the Forerunner thing could be a War Sphinx( unlikely) but I think he would be, as you said, looking for Mendicant Bias as he has an AI chip.
Your theory has been pretty much bounced around on these forums for some time.
