I have played all of the games that are on the MCC, as well as Halo Wars. Do I need to play the Halo 5 campaign before Halo: Infinite to continue the story? I don’t have an Xbox One, just a 360 and a PC, and I know that Halo 5 is only on Xbox One.
Halo: Infinite is being designed from a storytelling standpoint to be a jumping on point for new players, and due to Halo 5’s less than stellar reception, I believe a lot of its story elements are being dropped. That being said, I would recommend getting Halo Wars 2 on your PC and playing that. Infinite will have a whole new faction playing the part of the main bad guys, and that faction is introduced in Halo Wars 2. Not to mention Halo Wars 2 is just such a good game!

I wouldn’t hold my breath for it, though.
The official statement that H:I continues the story of H5G still stands - as of now, we don’t how and in which way though,
so I wouldn’t advise to ignore its events completely, as of now, they’re still relevant especially since everything regarding
Cortanas whereabouts appear to be a key-element to the story so it would be necessary to know in which state she was before.
Halo Infinite continues the story of Halo 5. I would recommend playing Halo 5 or watch it on Youtube.
Id at least play it. It isn’t as bad as everyone says it is when you take the number 5 out of the title.

I will do that. I just bought Halo 5 as it was on sale for 7.99, I will just need to find an Xbox One to borrow and play it, or maybe find a cheap one online. I will definitely go buy and play Halo Wars 2, I enjoyed the first one and have high hopes for 2 now! Thanks!
Not much happened in Halo 5 to be honest.
Read on if not afraid of getting the H5 story spoiled
Chief reunites with his old squad - Blue Team.
There is another 4 member squad - Osiris. Most notable is that Buck from ODST is in the team.
Your mission as Blue Team is to find out what happened on an old UNSC laboratory spaceship.
Team Osiris is meant to rescue Halsey from Jul M’dama.
Chief gets visions of Cortana while on that space ship.
Osiris rescues Halsey and kills Jul.
Chief decides to go after Cortana - ignoring orders to return to Infinity.
Osiris is ordered to find Blue Team.
Blue Team finds looks for ways to get to Cortana - while on a mining planet Meridian, they teleport to Genesis.
The planet is ‘attacked’ by a Guardian, which Osiris uses to teleport to Genesis and follows Blue Team.
Blue Team find Cortana, who is gone full Thanos.
Chief realizes that Cortana is coo-coo in the head.
Blue Team and Osiris unite against Cortana.
Cortana forms a ‘created’ army that is meant to protect humanity from themselves.
Cortana tries to put John into a pod - similar to the one that Didact used.
Osiris pulls Chief out, Cortana disappears.
The end.

From what was said, I don’t think so. Halo 5 felt more like filler than anything else to be honest.

Well I did say a lot, but not all. Obviously Chief and Cortana’s interactions have been the driving force behind the story since Halo 4. But a majority of Halo 5’s storylines seem pretty irrelevant now given all the trailers we’ve seen. Not a single guardian, no mention of Locke, etc. While I’m sure those stories aren’t being abandoned entirely, I would doubt they’re going to serve a significant purpose compared to Brohammer and the Banished, which seems to be the core of what’s going on.
I would youtube a play through of Halo 5s campaign. Cant recommend buying a console just for one game.
Don’t blame you

That’s a fair point, neither Osiris nor Blue Team appear relevant - now.
That’s why I was stating this from a current POV - the closer the launch gets the more will we learn,
altough it is to be expected that not every surprise and twist will get released, I still would recommend
to play through the game instead of just watching videos, just in case there’ll be some surprise-appearances
of Osiris or Blue Team, or mentions of the Created or why some AI’s defected and some did not.
To put it short, to avoid confusing suprises I would still advise it, even just for the sake of knowing the full context
and/or to understand any major and/or minor references.
