With Microsoft ditching the kinect in the Great DisKinect, they were questioned by numerous people over the possibility of a GPU boost for Xbox One games. Microsoft answered this question by giving a new XBone SDK and a statement about the new SDK:
“Yes, the additional resources allow access to up to 10 per cent additional GPU performance. We’re committed to giving developers new tools and flexibility to make their Xbox One games even better by giving them the option to use the GPU reserve in whatever way is best for them and their games.”
We know that Forza Horizon 2 is going to be 1080p, 30 FPS on the Xbox One. With Halo 5 being in development for some time now, will they take advantage of the changes in the Xbox One and make the game look even better or feel better by somehow increasing the framerate to 60 FPS(Fingers crossed 60 fps)?
Poll Question: If you were in charge of the graphics department at 343i, which would you rather have for the graphics of halo
- 720p and 60 FPS - 1080p and 30 FPS
I’m gonna say 1080p and 30FPS. I like high framerate but 720p? On next gen? Unacceptable IMO.
60fps has already been confirmed in the trailer
since i never gave much -Yoink- about graphics, i’ll go with 720p & 60 fps.
The people complaining that some games don’t have both 1080p and 60FPS on the new consoles seem to be forgetting that they’ve been just released under a year ago. The Xbox is a more complex console than the PS4, in time, developers will figure it out and create more performing games for it.
Remember the when the 360 and PS3 were still new? The PS3 had games that were less performant than than those on the 360. Why? The PS3 is a more complex system than the 360. But in time, they learned how it worked, and the console ended up surpassing the 360 in graphical capability. Plus, just compare the first year games of those consoles to what we have now. Thinking that any current Xbox One or PS4 games push the consoles to their limits is simply ridiculous.
I would be surprised if Halo 5 did not achieve both 1080p and 60FPS, as it is very possible for the console to achieve such a performance. In addition, with DirectX 12’s impending release, the console will perform even better than it does now.
1080p is grand and all, BUT since most of my Xbox gaming is done by piping the audio and video from my Xbox(s) into my computer using Black Magic intensity pro, and displayed using OBS, 1080p looks the same as 720p on my screen using OBS because of the fact that I can’t get the video screen any bigger, and I much rather have increased frame rate over size.
Wouldn’t this tick off everyone who’s Xbox One came with a kinect?
I mean, one of the big draws of consoles outside of exclusives if you never have to worry about your console having the right specs to run the games for it.
As someone who often plays on split-screen, I think I’ll take 720p with 60fps that will decrease to 30fps over 1080p with 30fps that will decrease to 15fps.
Plus, I have trouble seeing much of a tangible difference between 720 and 1080. But in terms of framerate in splitscreen, the difference between 30fps and 15fps is stunning.
I’ll sacrifice a size increase of 360 pixels for a playable framerate on splitscreen in a heartbeat.
It’s about time Microsoft ditched the Kinect. Movement controls have been impractical for regular use since the Sony EyeToy. Nintendo’s Wii taught us this. Until games can do this smoothly and accurately, motion control gaming will never be in high demand.
Bonnie Ross already said 60fps at the Xbox One reveal remember? You’re also discounting direct x12
Also I’ll take 900p at 48 fps please. I don’t see why this has to be either or. 48 fps is still gorgeous.
Nothing less than 8K and 240 frames per second… because future graphix > now graphix

Huh?
You think more hardware is going to make games run crappier?
No… it’s a developer thing. Behind the scenes. And with that kinect stuff still works at an OS level. They’re just allowing efficiencies/ more control in scheduling.
> Nothing less than 8K and 240 frames per second… because future graphix > now graphix
Graphics of the future = massive screen-tearing?
Not sure if I’d like that prospect…

But the still shots would be amazing! even if the game made everyone’s eyes clench shut in physical pain
60fps definitely.
Does it have to be 720p? BF4 is 720p @60fps.
Surely a first party exclusive, with rumoured DX12, 10% more resources thanks to Kinect no longer being mandatory and a longer development time can achieve 900p or beyond while still maintaining 60fps??

This.
Realistically there’s not much I can think of that you could use a kinect for in Halo save for menu navigation and as a mic that would actually be beneficial.
So I’m all in-favour of ditching the kinect to get the extra 10% to put towards improving graphics further while still keeping 60fps.
~ Duck.
The SDK update will work across all consoles, not just those that have no kinect its a software patch they’re sending out with new tools not hardware.
all i have to do is unplug my kinect if the game tells me ill have to for optimal performance.!
Why is there no option for 900p and 60fps?
Does everyone think it has to be 720p or 1080p?
In all honesty though, It is quite likely 343 could achieve 60fps and 1080p.
After all;
-60fps has been confirmed.
-DirectX12 will aid in boosting the consoles performance.
-Halo 5 has got a brand new engine built from the ground up for the Xbox One.
-The extra 10% of GPU power is something 343 could easily use since the Kinect isn’t something that works with Halo.
1080p and 60fps is actually a very likely outcome.
But If we don;t see 1080p, Then No less then 900p.
Edit the poll. It’s been confirmed that it runs at 1080p 60fps.
