In Halo 5, the magnum has become one of, or the most used weapon throughout Warzone and Arena, but how does it stack up against the DMR?
Both weapons are 5 shot kills to the head, and with the obvious differences behind, both have certain uses. We see the DMR as a rifle, not a pistol. The Magnum is a ultility weapon, more tactical, and certainly not a rifle. Of course with the tuning test, we saw how 343 focused on giving the weapons their intended purpose. With making the DMR a long range weapon, what would happen if the DMR would get a 4 shot headshot kill, instead of 5 shot, or what if the magnum was a 4 shot headshot kill? In real life, the power is with the DMR, but in Halo, the tactical utility of the Magnum is choice. Share your thoughts in the comments of what you think would work.
I’ve been wanting a 4sk magnum since the game launched. While they’re at it, make the DMR a 4sk and the BR a 3sk. I’ve always been an advocate for faster kill times in Halo because it allows the individual more freedom in what he can do/accomplish.
The devs have already stated that a defining and differentiating characteristic of Halo multiplayer is the “dance macabre” between two opponents, so shortening loadout weapon times-to-kill flies in the face of that philosophy and may be less likely than just stretching the optimal usage ranges between gun types.

This is a common misconception. Lowering the perfect TTK does not have to take away the “dance” of gun battles. For example, look at Halo CE: its magnum is capable of killing twice as fast as H5’s magnum (~0.6s), yet players are still able to out-shoot not just one, but multiple opponents at a time if they are skilled enough. This is possible because the CE magnum had a high difficulty of use. This same logic can be applied to H5.
Guns can be given a lower TTK and still work so long as they are difficult to wield and obtain a perfect kill with. But if the guns are too easy (e.g the H5 BR), then it will be harder to out-shoot your opponents because players will hardly miss. In short, an ideal utility weapon should have a decent gap between its perfect TTK and its average TTK. This sort of philosophy allows for a higher shooting skill gap and grants the individual player more power.

Yeah no, this would absolutely break the balance.
Halo 5 already has a faster TTK compared to prior titles. And the point of the series as a MP game is to be tam-oriented and for an individual to have a fighting chance against an attacker, sorta-similar to other shooters like Overwatch or TF2.
Call of Duty or Battlefield may be a bit more up your alley.

Please read my other post. I explained myself a bit more clearly on how the balance would work.
Magnum is the ultimate versatile weapon as it is best close range. DMR is like the magnum but a slower fire rate but can shoot long range. It takes true skill to hit far shots with the magnum.
Eh, i’d say they are sorta on par. Magnum is better for mobility while the DMR has a bit more ammo. It just comes down to preference at the end of the day i suppose.

Halo 5 does not have a faster TTK compared to prior titles, what are you even talking about?
Halo 1 had the fastest TTK pistol. Halo 2 had the fastest TTK battle rifle (halo 4’s BR is halo 2’s BR in a lot of retrospects, this is definitely 1 of them)
As for Halo 5…In terms of power, it’s weapons behave a lot like Halo 3’s but with the accuracy of Halo 2. In other words? You have a TTK kill time between Halo 2 and Halo 3.
The weapon tuning playlist made the game play very inconsistent, and behaved a lot like a harder version of Halo 3 to play. TTK times were through the roof even when you knew your shots were landing. Very frustrating for tons of people, even pro level people.
The DMR in its current state is an upgraded version of the magnum. It takes 2 shots and a melee to kill an enemy with the DMR, while it takes 3 shots and a melee to kill an enemy with the magnum. The DMR also has a longer RRR and a slightly faster RoF.
DMR and BR feel far more natural in my mind than pistol in this game for my playstyle. Hit Box seems significantly larger also - I hit a lot more Perfect skills with DMR (9.57% of kills) than Pistol (7.7% of kills)
