I have seen threads on gameplay mechanics and MP but not really on the story what would you like to see?
I love to see a continuation of the Brutes story myself. The Brutes and/or maybe the Flood. The Great Schism was my all time favorite campaign storyline. Need to keep expanding on the Promethean storyline now too.
Halsey and anything that even vaguely implies the Precursors would be great. The sooner we move away from Forerunners as enemies the better, unless it’s Mendicant Bias, which I would like.
If the Halo : Xbox One preview is anything to go by maybe a new world with new species ? the giant metal bird/snake thing could be precurser tech maybe ?
Halo 2 and Halo 3 did a good job of expanding the fiction. They gave the Covenant society and provided motivation… it gave a personality so to speak. Made the enemy more of a character than simply a plot prop. The Great Schism was a plot point that would have long lasting, dynamic effects on the races that have become characters in their own right.
Halo 4 kind of roped it back in. The storm covenant weren’t really explained in game, so it was kind of a “Well… we’re going to ignore what’s going on with the former Covenant races. We need bad guys, so we’re going to go ahead and include the standard lineup for game play reasons without justifying it with story telling reasons. We’re not gonna continue the many story lines from the original trilogy.”
I get that they wanted to kind of make the story more character driven, but fact of the matter is that even Halo 4 was heavily threat/objective driven simply because that is what the medium demands. I would like to see the story told in such a way that allows them to bring all those abandoned story lines and characters back to relevance.

It doesn’t fit the bill of Precursor technology, it’s obviously Forerunner.

It looks obviously Promethean if you ask me. The orange lights are a dead giveaway.
With the trilogy now turned into a saga, I think Halo 5 will set up the return of the Precursors. They will arrive and begin by releasing flood from the rings.
In this desperate time, the Geas that was given to John by the Librarian will begin to surface. I believe this Geas to be of one of the Didacts. John will “remember” Mendicant Bias’ entombment on the Ark and his intimate knowledge of the Flood. He has a way to defeat the Flood, Perhaps without using the Rings.
John will leave the battle, much to the Disappointment of the UNSC. They label him a “rogue”.
John will reach the Ark and search for MB.
Note: not sure how, but at some point, Jul, Halsey, and the Janus key will play a large role.
I want to see some insurrectionists which I think there very well may be. I want to see the Arbiter and his fight against guys like Jul. I want to see Brutes and what happened to them after Halo 3. I want to see a new Gravemind be born and have there be a whole new army of flood. I don’t however want to see precursors, since they have this element of mystery to them, and I feel like having them in the game will totally ruin that element.

Precursors and Flood…kinda the same thing.

That’s up for debate.

Silentium was pretty clear if you ask me.
I’d like the Insurrectionists to join the fight. I’d also like a lot more Spartan 4 program information: how candidates are selected, training and augmentation details, MJOLNIR Gen2 specs, etc.
The story should also explore the mental states of the remaining Spartan 2s and 3s.
O think the beginning of 4s main purpose was for us to start questioning their mental state. I also think 5 may include the rest of the surviving S-II’s. There is a possibility of 7 of them out there and I would like to see them all brought back into the fold.
Dr Halsey contacts Chief, she gives him the choice to join up with her or not, throughout the game while on missions he thinks about it, he encounters the Ur-Didact, the Ur-Didact fights Chief, Chief is left with broken armour, he meets up with Halsey who tells him she’s looking for Mendicant Bias and that she may be able to bring Cortana back with MB’s help, Chief remembers finding the Terminals and communicating with MB on the Ark, Chief goes back to find it repaired, he looks for MB and encounters the bird thing which is a guardian of MB’s tomb, Chief returns to Halsey and MB brings up the fact there are still other Forerunners around (IsoDidact, Chant, etc). We go to Charum Hakkor under MB’s guidance and encounter the IsoDidact, he acts as a ally and tutor to Chief, MB warns Chief of an incoming Flood invasion “the Precursors test”, and the only way we’ll succeed is if Humanity can unite all species in the galaxy, otherwise, they’ve already lost,
And for SpOps, Fireteam Crimson prepares to face an incoming Insurrectionist attack on Earth with the crew of the Infinity, then we’re introduced to the Insurrectionists as enemies, they are allied with some Brutes, Jackals and Skirmisher (and whatever other species lives on Venezia who’d be willing to work with the Innies). We also face Juls Covenant and the Prometheans

“We are the flood… there is no difference…”
-The Primordial
OT: If a Spartan Ops Season 2 does not come around to resolve the the conflict with Halsey, then the Janus Key should certainly play a large role. But I’d like more emphasis on the inevitable return of the Flood and the Milky Way’s imminent doom more than anything.

That’s never been explained in the game though.

“We ARE the Flood, there is no difference.” is the quote Andy here showed us. The real question, IMO, is if they always WERE the Flood or just BECAME the Flood after being assaulted by Forerunners (as in, some/most/all of the Precursors gave themselves to the Flood for the greater “good”) and if this Gravemind speaks for every single Precursor. The cryptic ramblings of a Gravemind should be interpreted so straightdorwardly IMO.
I think it was heavily implied in the original two books that they are in fact two different species, and on top of that- how could there be a LAST Precursor if they are all part of the same hive mind? When new Gravemind’s are made they adopt the essence of the previous one, so wouldn’t there technically be only one Precursor? And if so, how does it work with the whole thing where the Forerunners killed most of them, but few managed to escape “beyond reach”?
It doesn’t make sense to me that the Precursors are the Flood because the analogy to Noa’s Ark. It was God who brought the Flood, them being the same is just sloppy story telling, I think. It also makes much more sense for the Precursors would create the Flood as a response to the Forerunners attacking them, believing it’s the only way to truly keep the Mantle.
I’m not saying it’s not possible that they are the same, but I definitely think that we’re going to revisit that subject some time in the future through the games or the books.

Probably because 343 came up with the Precursors and all the previous games with the flood were made by Bungie
The Flood is a stage, a form of the Precursors.
The powder was created to regenerate the past forms, and it became corrupt. This created the Flood. The powder was from the Precursors themselves… which means the Flood is literally a kind of corrupt Precursor form.
The Primordial said he was the last of this kind of Precursor. When he was killed he was transfered to the Flood. The Flood is the next “kind” of Precursor. They are kind of like variations of the same thing, which we know is possible since it was said the Precursors had lived and died and been reborn in new forms several times.
So technically, yes, the answer is that they “became” the Flood.
But according to the Primordial there are no other Precursor forms left, just the Flood.
