Halo 5 story makes no sense? HALP

I know every halo game’s story like the back of my hand at this point, the only one I am slightly foggy on would be halo 4, which I am replaying right now. But I was watching some of the halo 5 footage that has released, and it makes no sense to me.

How did master chief regroup with his OLD squadmates? Weren’t they lost in space?(or some of them, havent read that book in years) Why are they fighting the covenant again? Why does the UNSC hate the chief now? Is Agent Locke a spartan 5? AND HOW THE HECK IS BUCK A SPARTAN NOW? It seems like this game has a ton of cool references with basically every old character coming back even from extended canon, but I don’t understand how it all came together.

Was this all revealed already in halo 4(or the advertisement movies/books), or will this all make sense just from playing halo 5?

No halo 5 spoilers please

they seriously expect the entire fanbase to read every book?

Read Halo: Escalation, Ghost of Onyx, Halo: New Blood, and that will tell you basically all the questions you just asked. Enjoy

Chief’s team were recovered along with Halsey.

The Covenant refers to basically any remnant faction now.

Locke is a Spartan-IV, formerly an ONI Agent.

Buck was accepted into the Spartan-IV Program, which uses adult volunteers instead of children like Chief.

No, but all the info is out there if you want to find it. Go to Halo Canon’s youtube page and fo your best sponge impression.

There’ll most likely be some exposition on each character in-game, but if you want the full details, yes, you will have to read the relevant books.

New Blood for the fate of Buck and Alpha Nine.
Thursday War for why the Covenant is back and Jul 'Mdama.
The Escalation comic series for Blue Team.
Read Locke’s character bio online.
Why the UNSC is after Chief is kinda the plot for Halo 5 so no one actually knows.

Halo 5 needs to have a massive prologue.

  • Read Ghost of Onyx and Glasslands for Blue Team and Jul’s faction
  • UNSC doesn’t hate the Chief, they just want him back since he’s humanities’ greatest hero
  • Locke is a Spartan-IV, there are no Spartan-V’s yet
  • Read New Blood for Buck
  • A good amount of the extended universe 343i worked on was built around Halo 4, especially Kilo Five and the Forerunner Saga. A good read on Halopedia or some of Halo Canon’s wouldn’t hurt if you want to get caught up on everything for Halo 5.

If you want to read about Blue team, you need to read Ghosts of Onyx and Glasslands..
New Blood tells the story of Buck’s transformation into a Spartan IV. It’s a short story, too, so it won’t take you long to read.

Ok well pick up a book and read it!
