Halo 5: Spectre, Prowler, or Revenant?

Within the last few Halo Games (minus Halo 4), we’ve been exposed to a variety of Covenant Vehicles whose sole-purpose are to match the Warthog’s niche. These vehicles are the Spectre, the Prowler, and the Revenant.

The Spectre, seen exclusively in Halo 2, was the first Covenant-Counterpart to the Warthog. Instead of seating only one turret and one passenger, the Spectre allows two passengers to accompany the driver and the gunner. The Spectre also has an indefinite boosting ability, and it allows passengers to switch directly to the driver seat without having to step out.

The Prowler, which replaced the Specter in Halo 3, is the Jiralhanae Counterpart to the Warthog. Being almost identical to the Specter in both function and even appearance, the Prowler lacks a boost ability, and it turns slower. Rather than having a rear-mounted Plasma Cannon, the Prowler has it in the front - which gives the Prowler more of an assault role in combat. Also, when performing a jump, the Prolwer’s “sleds” will extent, allowing the vehicle to almost glide across distances.

Easily the most unique from the Warthog, and the last of the counterparts, the Revenant was introduced in Halo: Reach. Using a lighter and faster version of the Wraith’s Plasma Mortar as the primary means of fire, the Revenant could deliver quite the beating unto its foes. Also, not only does the vehicle have its unique firepower, it also adheres to the Covenant’s “Individual Effort” trend for vehicles - which is something that the Prowler and the Spectre do not.

In Halo 5, if you were to choose one (yes, one) of these vehicles, which would it be?

Do you want the Classic Spectre, or the Prowler?

Or do you want the Revenant?

Vote!

I’d love to have them all.
However, I must choose.

Therefore, I choose the Spectre.

I love the Prowler in Halo 3.
Most say it’s bad, but a game of Assault on Sandtrap is all it takes to prove itself.
However, my love for Sanheilli decides that the Spectre is preferable.

The Revenant, to me, is little more than a mini, violet-colored Wraith.
But still fun to use, nonetheless.

Revenant if it’s main gun was made more viable and it gained the Spectre’s traction (ability to cling to/climb up slanted surfaces).

Otherwise, Spectre for sure. It has a history of launching (in a good way, not like the Revenant >_>).

It just needed a better hover height. It’s flip mechanics were also annoying. There was nothing more frustrating than trying to get 3 Spectres to Tartarus within a single checkpoint…

The Revenant is my choice. That thing was so much fun to use against the Warthogs!

Revenant.

I feel it keeps in line with the Covenant vehicles being different from the UNSC vehicles (Wraith-Scorpion, Ghost-Mongoose, Revenant-Warthog), and offers a unique perspective of the assault transport, compared to the Specter, which is an almost identical Warthog, and the Prowler, which is just the Brute Specter.

Why not all three?

> Why not all three?

Agreed but have them all serve different roles. Examples

Think of them all sort of like the 3 different types of Warthogs.

Prowler-1 Driver, Passengers AI exclusive and Gunner.

Exposed Driver and gunner is covered.

Turret fires small explosive rounds average ROT and the vehicle has heavy armor.

Turret has low aim assist, vehicle is hard to control and slow moving with short boost.

Specter- 1 driver, 2 Passengers Gunner

Driver is covered, passengers exposed and gunner sightly covered.

Turret fires shots similar to Beam Rifle, making it anti infantry with a high ROT and Light armor.

Turret has high aim assist for infantry, low for vehicles, quick over heat easy to control fast and has boost.

Revenant- 1 Driver 1 Passenger

Driver and Passenger are slightly exposed.

Turret fires mortar shots and vehicle has medium armor.

Aim assist for driver is low, passenger high. Vehicle has average speed and boost.

Just examples

Also i would like to say that having a Forerunner Air unit would be great. Like a snub fighter that has alternate flight modes. Hover and Jet. Each mode has two different weapons.

But if only one, I would have to say Revenant.

I would pick the Revenant.

It was a fast, agile and light version of the Wraith, nonetheless quite unique and an equal counterpart to the Warthog, in my opinion.
Besides, I’ve loved to “Revy-snipe”.

The idea of this thread is to force you to make a decision. If you could choose one, which would it be?

I, for one, would choose the Revenant. As much as I loved the Spectre and the Prowler, they were essentially just re-skins of the Warthog - there wasn’t really anything special about them except for some mere aesthetic differences. However, the Revenant was drastically different from the Warthog. Instead of using an automatic turret, it used a minature Plasma Mortar. It also required skill to operate, as that Mortar was certainly difficult to master. Like most other Covenant vehicles, the Revenant gave its power to the driver, rather than using teamwork to operate.

When it comes to vehicles, the UNSC puts emphasis on teamwork, and the Covenant puts emphasis on individual skill and effort. The Falcon, Warthog, and Mongoose all needed teamwork. And the Ghost, Revenant, and Banshee all used individual effort.

Halo Reach had the best vehicle sandbox, in my opinion.

Sorry for the post then, I just wanted to explain why not all three. But the revenant since it fills many roles, warthog flipper, quick assault and hit and run tactics. All without being OP.

I accidentally voted for Prowler, but I wanted to vote for the Revenant. The reason why I chose the Revenant over the Spectre is because I never played Halo 2 multiplayer. But it would also be an interesting vehicle in multiplayer I suppose.

I voted for the Revenant, but I’d prefer all three, which would be best for Forge and Custom Games, as would all the other vehicles from the series, including the Chopper, multiple versions of the Banshee, etc. The more variety and player choice, the better!

I would love to see the Spectre back. That thing was awesome in team games.

> I would love to see the Spectre back. That thing was awesome in team games.

Would be even better with the larger player count.

The revenant, but I would much rather have something new and more unique instead.

My vote’s on the Revenant. But I’d like them to do something a little bit more unique than it.

My reasons being that UNSC and Covenant vehicles have a running, but sometimes broken theme of UNSC vehicles requiring more teamwork, and Covenant vehicles being more solo.

This has been the most apparent with the Mongoose, Warthog, Falcon, Ghost, Chopper, and Banshee.

A few things I’d like to see done to help rebalance the vehicles a little while further promoting the Teamwork vs Solo theme, is for the Mantis’ legs and torso to be operated by separate players. And perhaps the Scorpion requiring switched roles so the Driver operates the Machinegun, while the Gunner operates the main Cannon.

> I would love to see the Spectre back. That thing was awesome in team games.

I didn’t like the Spectre (or the Prowler) because they were essentially just re-skinned Warthogs. Apart from a change in seating capacity and color, there really isn’t a significant enough difference between them.

However, the Revenant, is entirely different from the Warthog. Not only does it adhere to the Covenant’s “individual effort” trend when it comes to vehicles, it’s also very fun to use. Overall, its mini-mortar should get a damage buff, and it shouldn’t get shredded DMR fire.

Perhaps it should get another version of it where it has a huge needler turret instead of the plasma mortar.

I’d like to have both the Revenant AND Spectre. The Covenant need more vehicles.

The Prowler was pretty lousy in multiplayer; the occupants were very exposed and its main gun was woefully underpowered.
