For Halo 4, Neil Davidge and Kazuma Jinnouchi created a totally new style for its soundtrack.
It was definitely different from Martin O’Donnell’s style, and has drawn flak from a lot of fans for being too different.
For Halo 5/Halo Xbox One, who do you think should compose the score? Should Davidge return to develop the next soundtrack?
Personally, I kind of hope Tom Salta is the composer for the next Halo game. His work on Halo Spartan Assault was amazing; he knew exactly how to blend the styles of O’Donnell/Salvatori and Davidge/Jinnouchi to create some great music.
He would be perfect to become 343’s lead musician in my opinion.
What composer would you want to hear for Halo Xbox One?
I actually wouldn’t mind a hybrid of sorts, a cross between music that resembles the original trilogy (NOT remixes, but unique and new music that tries to mimic that same feel) and music akin to what we heard in Halo 4.

Kazuma Jinnouchi did an amazing job with Halo 4 (Intruders remind me Marty/Mike’s work!). However, Neil Davidge is a terrible composer. His music is transient, dull, souless and barely audible during gameplay. I hope (HOPE) this guy won’t return. He has no talent to write Halo music.
I haven’t listened to Tom Salta’s work, but from what I’ve heard, he has a better Halo “touch” than this brute Davidge. Music is one of the highest priorities for 343i. If Halo5 music sucks, the game will suck as well. The music must be part of the game, as well as the story (Halo 4, anyone?). 343i delivered half of the game, the other half must have been bought from Amazon (books, soundtrack?) in order to understand the game we paid for. Pathetic, 343i.

You don’t need to read the books to play through the game, nor to understand the Didact and Jul pose a threat to everyone.
To fully understand why they’re there, why they’re doing what they’re doing, and etc - yes you do. Or you could spend a few minutes looking their names up on the wikis.
It’s not pathetic at all. Not exactly the best way to handle it no, but it’s not pathetic.

Go on Neil’s facebook page and you’ll actually see that he is quite popular among the Halo fans, all of which are hoping for his return. I can’t judge whether he will be returning or not, but i can say, that i hope he does. Halo 4 had a nice twist to it, and even if he didn’t stick to Marty’s formula, music like this is always welcome. Neil actually gave themes for each specific character, which i thought was very effective. Even if he doesn’t return, i expect to see some of his work re-used in Halo 5.
P.S. Please stop with the whole ‘no talent’ business, you really are not in a position to judge.
I believe that Neil Davidge and Kazuma Jinnouchi did a pretty good job creating Halo 4’s soundtrack, but I also think that it did stray away from the traditional Halo themes we’ve all come to expect from a Halo game a little to much. If Neil and Kazuma can sort of shift back to a more ‘traditional’ composition, I wouldn’t have a problem with them returning - especially Kazuma.
As far as Tom Salta stepping in, I’d also totally be for that! His work on Spartan Assault was amazing and I found myself wishing on more than one occasion that that was what Halo 4’s soundtrack sounded like through my first play through. His work did a better job fitting into the universe than Neil and Kazuma’s did, but they did a fine job too.
I would like to see fewer fast-paced tracks, as well as the return of the monks and more “soothing” tracks.
I’ve been able to mute the in-game music in Halo 4 and overlay more-classical musical compositions by Marty, and you wouldn’t believe how much different (and better) the game feels to play.

Definitely Tom Salta, and him alone would be a great composer for the next title.
