Halo 5 should feature bullet holes in enemies

Several last gen shooting games have featured bullet holes in enemies, this feature adds more realism. Halo 5 is on an xbox one. If last gen games can do it, surely a next gen game like Halo 5 can pull it off.

Games such as Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, came out three gaming generations ago, and while they don’t feature bullet holes, wherever enemies are shot, that area of their clothing soaks red with blood.

Half Life 2 features bullet holes in enemies when shot, in the texture of a bullet hole, and it came out two generations ago.

CoD: WaW, BO, and BO2 all feature bullet hole impacts as textures on enemies, and they are all last gen games.

Bioshock, Bioshock 2, and Bioshock infinite have blood soak up in the clothing or skin of enemies in the area that they are shot or melee attacked.

Last of Us, a late end last gen game (came out around the same time as Halo 4), has fantastic bullet holes when enemies are shot. A 3d swolen red hole apears on the front AND THE BACK of a head wich has had a bullet hole shot through. It’s not just a 2d texture, and it’s location depends on where the bullet hit’s the head. Also when enemies are shot in the torso the chothing of the enemy soaks up in red blood in that area and looks extremely realistic. On top of that wherever the enemy was shot, you can see blood trickle down in an animation at the point where the bullet hit.

In Halo 5 the colour of the bullet hole should be the same colour as the blood of the species:

-When Marines are shot, wherever the bullet(s) hit them, they should have red impact marks on that part of their body

-When Spartans are shot, wherever the bullet(s) hit them they should have red impact marks on the black part of the armor (the more rubbery part underneath the metal part), and bullet holes (that look like bullet holes in metal) on the metal parts of the armor. As well as when shot in the head their visor should receive a large crack with blood smeared on it. The same helmet concept should apply to ODSTs.

-When Grunts are shot, wherever the bullet(s) hit them, they should have blue impact marks on that part of their body
-When Elites are shot with their shields down, wherever the bullet(s) hit them, they should have purple impact marks on that part of their body
-When Prometheans are shot, where ever the bullet(s) hit them, they should have an impact mark that looks like a bullet hole on a metal wall since they are made of metal. Or perhaps an orange impact mark as they leak out orange oil when shot.

I’m not saying Halo 5 needs to add gore (although all Halo games that featured the flood had immense amounts of gore), but for the sake of making the experience more realistic and moving forward technologically seeing as Halo 5 is next gen Halo, I think bullet holes should be implemented. Halo has always had animation of blood coming out of enemies, blood landing on the floor, wall or celling in puddles, but it lacked realism due to the lack of bullet holes in the enemies. I hope that Halo 5 fixes this.

I’d rather see a wider series of ‘weapon effects’ similar to the Promethean disintegration. Human and brute weapons produce CE style blood effects, plasma/radiation leave dead enemies steaming, etc.

Bullet decals, sound nice, but they are not they are never that detailed nor is it great for the performance if you want them to stick around. If they can get decent ones, great, but its not something that is really necessary.

Off-Topic: Bruv, the bumps…

Back in the day, if Halo 3 had gore, my dad wouldn’t have allowed me to play it.

Interesting idea. I for one would rather 343 didn’t go down that road. I enjoy a good, gritty, dramatic Halo game. I don’t mind the blood, the gore of the Flood, and the non-stop violence. I feel that bullet holes would be a step too much just for the sake of realism. What would it really add to the game?

I could get behind this, however.

Realism is good, for example Halo 3 had footsteps in snow and sand, tire tracks, and all sorts of small details. Looking down and seeing my feet makes Halo a unique FPS game. That small addition makes me feel that much more like a spartan (or master chief depending on the game).

I don’t exactly see the point. It’s more of a gimmick than something that actually matters gameplay or story-wise, besides, Halo isn’t exactly a game about realism.

It doesn’t hurt though. It makes the experience more fun as its more immersive.

I guess I don’t need bullet wounds to feel immersed in a game.

They should bring back blood stains on enemies/allies like they had in Halo 3.
Bullet holes would be pretty cool too but it would be hard to pull it off in MP because they all have shields so the holes would have to appear after the shields are depleted.

In MP spartans don’t start bleeding until the shield’s get bopped, so the same thing applies to bullet holes.

After watching videos of Halo Anniversary’s alpha footage, the blood that came out of the grunts looked so much better. I really dislike the blood in the final version. It seems that the blood becomes worse and worse with each Halo game that comes out. Everytime you shoot an enemy in reach blood would always come out. In Halo 4 blood would only splatter on the ground sometimes when you shoot them.

How about dismemberment from weapons?

This will never happen but if you really need to see that type of stuff you will have to wait till the DOOM reboot comes out

Why would it NEVER happen? It’s next gen Halo, the Xbox One easily has the power to render bullet holes in enemies.

Flood have dismemberment already, although I wouldnt mind the neo covenant getting dismembered too.

Interesting concept.

I love Gears of War but I really don’t think dismemberment wouldn’t fit in with Halo. Maybe in the campaign, but definitely not in multiplayer.

Although I would love seeing a grunt being blown to bits by a grenade…
