Halo 5 Servers: Peer to Peer vs Dedicated Servers

I’d like to state that this isn’t an attempt at being a thread dedicated to complaints, you may notice that I am mildly annoyed with the Dedicated Servers at the moment, although I am indeed not going to trash Halo 5 as I am enjoying my time on it. I’m simply mildly irritated that the Servers, especially for Forge- simply are not working well right now.

I’ve lost a lot of progress in Forge and (I’ll openly admit that I should have saved more often, although I’m exhausted and to be completely honest, I forgot) I’m just tired of being kicked out at least every 20 to 30 minutes in Forge of all Game Modes. I’m also exceptionally confused as to why Halo 5’s Forge must use Dedicated Servers. I’d like to have the ability to simply utilize the Forge without having to be online, the switch for this in particular game mode simply doesn’t make sense to me.

As far as Matchmaking goes, alongside Customs. Those both make more sense. Allows for Steady Play without Host Switches and Drops. So, I’m happy with them for those Game Options. However, with the way the servers have been acting up recently (I’m very aware some people aren’t getting impacted by it, but for those that are. I get it as well.) I just don’t see a point in not having a Local or P2P options.

Halo 5 as a game is pretty great and it has a lot of potential. Which is slowly being uncovered as we progress on this Journey in Game Design with 343i. Their game is slowly getting better, which in turn will benefit future titles. Especially when we find a happy medium for it all. I think one of the main focuses should indeed be a steady server side reset/refresh/restart once every night or 2. If not- a simple server host swap. Currently (for those affected) its just to hard to feel a desire to want to continue when, knowingly in about 20 minutes I’d be kicked off and back to the menu. I love Halo and I am enjoying my Time with Halo 5, I would just like to be able to enjoy it again when the servers have been fixed.

Don’t get me wrong, my P2P idea does have its flaws, just as P2P does in general, but for Forge I think this is ideal. It would allow for much more steady game play, but at the same time Dedicated Servers, if repaired- would be an extremely enticing feature to have as well. I simply think we should be given the option to utilize any of these at any time aside from Match Making. Switch Between;

  1. Dedicated Servers
  2. Peer 2 Peer Servers
  3. Local Play

It simply stops the limitations for not only those who simply don’t have Xbox Live, but it also stops the kicking issues that a lot of users are having with the Game itself. Anyway, thanks for reading- have a good one.

I’m not completely agree.

Ok to have the ability to simply use the Forge without having to be online.

About matchmacking, i think it’s better to keep it as actually

I’d really like local play, I have a group of friends who I play halo with and about once a month we all meet up and play together, we’re only playing each and 4 now as 5 doesn’t have a system link

For what it’s worth:

> We are looking into a “local” forging mode. Customs will likely because it’s all client-server.

> let me clarify because a word autocorrected on my phone. Customs will likely NOT because it’s all client server.

The only beef I have with the game is the servers as well but they have improved a lot since Halo 4 in my opinion. The lag and teleporting was a lot worse for me back then. Halo 4 just seemed to have really bad net code.

Never had issues with their servers. I know that in Destiny which uses P2P servers though it is horrible. Games get horridly laggy. The only time I ever experienced any lag in Halo was when I was playing during a very bad storm. Aside from that while I am no hardcore diehard player I have still put a good amount of time and roughly 500 warzone games in and have never been booted out of a game due to bad servers.
