I found the early sales numbers for Halo 5 to be disappointing. However 343i has now sold over 3.85 million copies. This places Halo 5 in a tie with Fallout 4 as the 4th highest selling title in Xbox One history out selling Destiny and Starwars Battlefront in its ascension up the sales charts.

Are you forgetting how many xbox 360’s were sold prior to the release. At least 3 times more MS console hardware in the market at the release of H3…
Also being a Star Wars year it is pretty impressive that 343 was able to out sell battlefront in spite of the ridiculous amount of StarWars marketing saturation at release.

We all know it’s bad now, but with all the hype Bungie generated for the game for such a long time they gave people the illusion that it was going to be an amazing game. Nobody would know the disappointment until after they bought it.

That article constantly try’s to compare apples to oranges…
If you look at MS’s Financial statement…
The company is reporting a five percent year-on-year increase in revenue from its Games business for the quarter ending December 31, 2015. The article continues to site poor sales and the console unpopularity as variables in its H5 is dead poor sales equation.
“The console purchases are up through the end of calendar year '15. Our estimate is 55 million units out there which has exceeded virtually everyone’s forecast for the year and now almost 50 percent higher than previous console cycle so, all of that is very, very positive.” -EA CEO
50% higher console sales over the last cycle. That translates into success for MS not failure.

That wasn’t actually the case, there were actually more Xbox ones sold at the time of Halo 5’s release than 360s at Halo 3’s launch. Even later in 360’s lifecycle, Reach and Halo 4 still maintained similar numbers meaning the franchise’s popularity remained fairly consistent, anyway you spin it Halo 5 was a noticeable drop The ‘competition’ argument has been and always will be nonsense. Even if we accepted that it was the case, the market as a whole has grown alongside the “competition”. More hands are trying to grab a slice, but the pie itself is also bigger.
What kind of defense is “well there was a lot of competition” anyway? “Well it would have done better if people didn’t have any other choice” What a ringing endorsement of a product…
This is a very entertaining game. I am glad it is in the top 5. I laughed when I saw the publisher as MS. 343 gets all the blame, but it is clearly MS pulling the strings.
