It has the most wonky aiming mechanics I’ve seen from a triple A game (aiming is kind of important), the most aim-assist I’ve seen in an FPS, and the worst maps of any Halo. Though, for whatever reasons, a majority of people on Waypoint see it as the most skillful.
This really must be a new age of gaming if Halo 5 is the epitome of skill-based shooters.
I think you’re confusing “competitive” with “skillful”. People here are saying it’s very competitive in that the competitive aspect seems to be the main focus while the game largely lacks modes (or at least limits them to rotating weekend playlists) like Infection, Oddball, Juggernaut, Race, Fiesta, and so on.
As far as “skillful”, it’s the most skillful since Halo 3. Reach and Halo 4 were quite casual and had pre-set or full-blown loadouts, armor abilities, perks (mostly Halo 4), while Halo 5 does go back to equal starts and the Spartan abilities are something that everyone has so there’s a balance since it’s not like one player has jetpack while the other has camo or armor lock and some are spawning with plasma grenades instead of frags. Also, it takes a little skill to get this “wonky” aiming down, don’t you think? lol
Perhaps in comparison to current industry trends. I can’t name a more competitive fps on console that’s out right now.

I think the amount of topics regarding aiming does prove there is a problem with it. You may be able to deny my complaint, but when it is joined by many, many others it becomes a very valid complaint.
For comparison, I can’t aim for the life of me in CS:GO, but I think the aiming is perfectly fine in that game.

Halo 5 has relatively low aim-assist. Games like Destiny, COD, and even Halo 4 have much higher.

You know, the aiming also works for many, many others as well. Also, a game still can be skillful even with a bad aiming system to it, you don’t need everything to be perfect for it to be considered competitive or skillful. How else would halo be an Esport game?

I never said it wasn’t a valid complaint. I was just joking that for those who master it (what with it being wonky) they must posses some skill, right? Of course the aiming’s jacked up, they added extra tuning features for it because it was so bad. Of course, since then, I’ve gotten it down and do alright, but as far as it being “fixed”, is it? I don’t know. I think I’ve just gotten used to it. I basically only play Halo 5 these days, so it’s just second nature now.

That is true, though it being difficult because it’s bad is a bit different than it just being difficult.

I would think that aiming mechanics would be top priority in a FPS.

Thing is, play Halo 5 then play CE. They feel very similar in terms of aiming. I think they were trying for something there. They also moved the reticle back to the center of the screen like where it was in CE. My problem is that in the older games, I always had the sensitivity around like 4-6, but in Halo 5 it feels like it needs to be -3. lol

Okay, while a lot of complaints are debatable, this is definitely not. Halo 5 has the stickiest aim-assist of any Halo. Try it for yourself in custom games with a friend. It will bring your reticle to a near complete stop when swiping over a player. You probably just don’t notice it because the game’s aiming is extremely inconsistent.

That’s just because of the way the Xbox One controller is designed. The One’s controllers require some ~20% less force to move. Don’t know why Microsoft thought that was a good idea. This is just salt to the wound.

But I’m talking about on the Xbox One. In the MCC, I have my sensitivity for all the games at 6 (expect Halo 3, I keep a little lower at 5 because it’s all projectile and uses the least magnetism of any of them so I need a bit more control). But in Halo 5 I bounce around between 1-2 on the sensitivity. And still tweak it every so often. So yeah … the game’s got some weird aiming.

That’s what I’m feeling. I could have a higher sensitivity in CE, 2, or 3 and still keep some degree of control, but not in 5. It’s either too slow or too fast. So I’m basically forced to choose between effectiveness at long range or short range.
Agree the studio gives a lot of emphasis on “competitive”. A little odd considering it is probably only a small part of their audience. That said, H5 doesn’t feel intuitive at all to me, I get head shots in other FPS, in H5 not so much, and the AR is spray and pray. Probably because I’m a casual and over 20 lol.
I agree it isn’t the most skillful Halo. That belongs to Halo 2. Halo 4 was the least skillful. All the other were skillful. Halo 5 is very competitive with arena ranks, however, and I really appreciate that aspect of the game.
H5 is the most competitive shooter right now. Btw H5 has verry little aim assist. But the bullet mag is high but still less than H2. H2 had way more aim assist than h5.
Has anyone actually got any precise figures regarding aim assist in H5 compared to other halos?
Everyone’s claiming they know or think they know which has more or less but I’m wondering if there’s any facts.
There is no one that has played Halo 1-3 at a high competitive level that would say Halo 5 is the most skillful Halo to date.
That belongs to Halo 1. It’s not even close.
Aim assist?? Sorry but nope… sure maybe the sniper rifle, but all other weapons… nope…
