Halo 5’s hit sounds (‘clicks’/‘pops’) could return

I personally hope we see—err, I guess hear, rather—the sounds in Halo 5 when you either land a headshot kill or hit an enemy with an explosion. It makes kills even more satisfying to me, but I know not everyone likes them. Maybe a toggle could be added, similar to the one for battle chatter in H5 (another mechanic I’d personally like to see again)?

I agree H5 did a lot of things right in my books its one of my favorite multiplayers in Halo maybe not as good but right up there with the likes of 2 and 3. I feel 2 and 3 jus had much better and more memorable maps especially. But the sounds of H5 to me were excellent and the way they made it totally clear audibly and visually when you hit and kill someone is great and needs to make a comeback for sure. the little pop is always nice to hear to confirm that kill. One thing I want to see with the whole battle pass system going in is armor and kill effects for sure. when I hear that headshot kill pop I also want ppl to be able to unlock and equip the good ole grunt birthday party effect and let me see confetti when I get that kill cause I would for sure have that on myself! lol

I like that click when making a headshot too, very satisfying!

But yeah a toggle for certain soundsets could be an idea. Like the modern Monster Hunter games had one for the Voice Acting. Traditionally, the NPC’s would always ‘speak’ in garbled gibberish and grunts, and you had to read everything instead. If you found them suddenly voiced to be jarring (like me hah) you had the option to switch it from English/Spanish/Japanese/whatever back into that gibberish. VA’s not really the same thing, but the gesture feels the same to me - pleasing both crowds with a toggle

With the Party effect returning in Halo 4 MCC, I have hopes it’ll come back for Infinite someday. I neeeed that HOOORAAAY! in my multiplayer

Same here! I’m so glad they’ve confirmed that armor effects are going to return. There’s tons of possibilities in that department.

The headshot pop from 5 was so crispy!

The headshot sound was pretty satisfactory in Halo 5 and its one of the little details that was actually pretty great overall

From what I can tell it sounds like their back which sucks. At best they might be less obnoxious than the Halo 5 versions, but I still find them to be pointless audio clutter that detracts from the overall experience.

I remember watching this video and what really ended up standing out to me wasn’t the Halo 3 audio, but the lack of constant chirping, no clicking from the low ammo warning, to the kill notifications headshot pop. It all sounded so much cleaner I would have liked to see what Halo 5 felt like without all that high pitched garbage.

I think a lot of people are split on those hit sounds. Personally I think they were really satisfying in Halo 5, but sound is one of those things that is really specific to people, and just like there are so many different tastes in music its the same for sound effects.

I would love for Grunt Birthday Party like effects! That one was the best lol. That seems like a cool idea to be able to customize hit sounds like that.

If there are any hit sounds to be had I’d rather have the halo 5 ones, definitely felt right, especially headshot kills

They actually enhance the overall experience for me. The headshot sound in particular makes it all the more satisfying to get a perfect kill with a precision weapon (Jeff Steitzer saying “perrrrfect” in that awesome voice doesn’t exactly hurt, either ).

Those H:I headshot animations feel like that would help with the satisfaction of headshots.

At a minimum I would hope they can be toggled off because I find them truly irritating. If you wanted to have somesort of headshot audio then I would rather see a more “immersive” sound along the lines of CoD(at least I think it was CoD its been a long time since I’ve played) where the headshot sounds more like bullet smacking into helmet. I don’t find it find it very satisfying to kill a Spartan(or anything else) like I am popping a balloon. Save that for grunt birthday party.

I’ve played other games where audio hit indications, kill notifications are not bothersome, I just genuinely find Halo 5’s implementation to be one of if not the worst in the genre.

I won’t lie. The sound effects with the clicking and popping was very annoying and I was upset you couldn’t turn it off. Well, I was upset with a lot of things about H5. But I digress. I hope if they return for whatever reason, the sounds are actually pleasing this time or are quite low and unintrusive.

I know it sucks. I’ve been writing this exact thing in the forums for several years. A toggle to turn off all hit sounds would be so considerate of 343 Industries. Maybe if we ask nicely they’ll include a toggle. Please 343 i?

That headshot sound-effect is very satisfying.

What I HATE about Halo 3 is the unsatisfaction of killing someone. You just don’t even notice you killing someone sometimes. They just fall and a small subtitle on the left saying you killed them. Having the sounds and the “X” indicator really set a satisfaction of headshots or even defeating an enemy in general indeed.

That’s the indication they’re dead. They’ve fallen yet you’re still standing. Superiors are often vertically above their subordinates in companies. That’s why fat cats like to work on the highest stories of buildings.

343 talked a lot in their audio edition of Inside Infinite that the main takeaway they had from Halo 5 was that audio was incredibly dense. Too many things were happening at once and while the audio itself was high quality, the sheer amount of noises resulted in an auditory mess. Dense audio is pretty uncharacteristic for Halo, really when you watch gameplay of the classics or play them yourself you’ll notice that the soundscape is pretty empty. A little ambiance, the sound of faraway grenades detonating and gunfire, that’s it, and it’s pretty Halo if you ask me.

Considering Halo Infinite is focused on the hierarchy of sounds, especially in regard to combat, I’m not too sure we’ll be hearing those pings for low magazines, headshots, certain medal noises, etc. as they all end up adding to the complicated mess of sound that was Halo 5. I understand how you could see those pings as satisfactory, but there are other ways, especially with animation, where that satisfaction can be delivered, without making the audio a jumbled mess.

At 7:40 in the “Multiplayer Overview” video one can clearly hear an offensive high- pitched ping after each kill.

I’m game, I would like to see them return. There should be an option to disable the sounds for people who don’t like them though.
