So I would like to share my thoughts on the maps we have seen so far in Halo 5 plus some additional feedback for other maps. I would also like to know what you guys think about the maps in Halo 5.
Truth:
Truth is a fun map but everybody is staying on the outside of the map, going to the middle of the map is an instant death. This hurts the mapflow which is a shame because it’s a good map. I would like to suggest to reduce the size of the map Truth so it becomes a bit smaller to make the combat tighter and to enhance the mapflow. Making the map smaller will also bring more people to the middle because it’s less big.
Empire:
Empire is a pretty fun map as well, the layout is good but I’m not sure if the Sniper Rifles fit the map. I also encounter framedrops on Strongholds on Empire.
Regret:
Not a fan of this map, everyone is camping top middle and the power weapon on the map feels useless (Hydra). The map overall can be hard to navigate and everything is so bright!
Eden:
Eden is my least favorite map out of all of them. The catwalk feels like it has been placed there with forge and it hurts the mapflow a lot. It’s also very hard too see the blue team on the map. The maps needs some big design changes because at the moment it is a really bad map.
Pegasus:
Love this map, it has lots of choke points and very good and useful power weapons. There times you can get spawn killed but overall this is my favorite map. I would like to see more maps designed like this but not in forge. I would love to see this map as an actual map instead of a forge map. Pegasus is a very good designed map and I hope to see more maps like this in the final game as actual maps.
My thoughts on adding remix variants of maps:
I’m not a fan of it. At the moment the remix variants of the maps Truth and Empire are in my opinion bad redesigned version. Personally it feels like a waste of resources and as a lazy act. I rather have 343 create unique maps instead of adding remix variants to the maprotation. I’m just not a fan of it and I hope this isn’t something we will see more of in the final game. I would rather see a real mapvariant of Pegasus instead of a forge variant. I’m cool with Forge maps in matchmaking as long as they don’t replace actual maps.
I agreed with almost everything you said. However, I think Pegasus is a horrible map. I don’t mind the forge textures or anything like that, but winning on that map basically comes down to whoever can camp the upper back portion of the map the most. From that area, it is quite easy to pick up both the Rocket Launcher and the Sniper Rifle, so if your team can set up shop in that area with both power weapons, it is basically an automatic win for you. I simply have not enjoyed Pegasus at all every time I played it. I would have liked to see Orion instead.
Truth: Going in the middle is not instant death. PLus as of now there is absolutely no reason for you to go into the middle of the map as shotty is not there yet. Really dumb to wander into bottom mid. Plus this is a remake of a classic map so it deserves instant respect

Empire: Alright map. I think the sniper outside is good but they could put maybe rockets on the inside power weapon spawn

Regret: LMFAO Nobody camps top mid. Now THAT would be insta death and really dumb as there is nothing there. Hydra is an easy weapon to use. If you can’t get kills with it then YOU are useless. There is a lock on feature if you didn’t know that even guides the rockets for you

Pegasus: HORRIBLY designed map. Very unbalanced as the red team spawns with easier access to both power weapons and a light rifle. Anyone with a brain sees how unbalanced and blandly colored this map is

All in all the first 4 maps are the four best maps 343/certain affinity/ have made. Way better than anything in Halol 4
Truth: Agree for the most part but the top mid is a near death trap because it provides a significant advantage over anyone in the bases. Having easy access to jump in and demolish with an SMG or Bane while your team mates push through the sides makes the risk worth while.
Empire: Agreed, but I dont mind the snipers so much.
Regret: Agreed.
Eden: The lighting and colors could use some changes but I like it over all.
Pegasus: Agreed, though spawn killing should be tuned out if possible. Add a Light rifle to blue base as well because red has a bit too many advantages.
Not a big fan of remixes either. But as long as they aren’t bringing the total unique map count down, I can’t complain.
The problem with Truth is that Midship’s combat was always focused on the top catwalks and edges of the map. The thing that makes the center of the map such a deathtrap is that they replaced the 4 pylons in bottom middle with 1 little bunker to make the rest of it open space. This creates a lot of problems with cover IMO because now you can be shot from every direction and it is more of a transit area than anything else.
Empire, if it has framerate drops, hopefully is addressed, don’t want any of those in the final game. I agree its a good map, but could use different weapons. I think with its sitelines the Hydra would be perfect for Tower.
I have to say I disagree on Regret. It took a little getting used to, but I actually love this map now. It is fairly large and has a lot of areas where you can get your shields back. With the grenades being so powerful top middle takes a really coordinated team to hold as you can see straight into it from the slides and balconies. Also the map plays a lot better in Strongholds with the rocket launcher since it actually functions as a worthy power weapon. Also I love the abundance of DMRs and Light Rifles.
Eden also isn’t a favorite of mine, but it has started to grow on me. If you have a good team you can control the top catwalks and tower fairly well. Plus I love the dynamic elements on the map where you can shoot parts of the cover away to reveal your injured enemies. I think something that would improve the map drastically would be to take away cover from certain spots of the map on the corner leading from red base and adding more cover to the catwalks. The 2 way nature of the catwalks mean they won’t become much of a camping location no matter how much cover you add to them and taking away some of the cover from tower and the corner at blue base would allow more movement across the map. Also perhaps replace the sniper rifle with a Hydra or (if they’re in the game) Concussion Rifle or Brute Shot?
I disagree with remix. The point of remixes I think isn’t so much to replace maps we might get, but to add a bigger map count to the game so that we don’t end up like Halo 4 where there were not nearly enough maps at launch. If we get say 7 regular arena maps (not including Breakout) and they remix all of them in a way that is good (like Regret) then we end up with 14 maps with at least 7 of them likely to play really well. If this means we get a lot of maps right from the start so be it. It allows them to save resources and gives us more maps. I really hope they do something like this for Big Team so we don’t end up with too few of them.
I think truth would work a bit better if the sword platform that that reinforcement that it does on midship. That might draw some people into actually going to it.

Referring to PEGASUS; Not true, as blue you have a DMR, and easier access to sniper, the DMR & Lightrifle are both Tier 2 weapons, rockets are good at close range but the rockets travel so slow now, the sniper is obviously better at long range.
The DMR is actually easier to use than the LR also, less Sticky Aim with the LR.
all these maps are about 2/5 with BR starts, AR/Pistol was the perfect combo, but ill except pegasus since i feel it was actually desinged with BRs and i like that, so all maps ive seen - except pegasus - break under BR starts. and regret eeveryone camps cuz of BR starts. but you forgot Trnch and Crossfire. - i love these maps and they go good on my new favorite gamemode in Halo

Light Rifle kicks the DMRs butt any day. I’m not even just saying it as opinion the light rifle knocks out shields in just 2 shots and has very long range. Not to mention you basically spawn in a sniper perch with it while the DMR user has to shoot upwards off spawn which is always harder. Red spawn has the high ground looking over the sniper spawn which gives them the control over it.
I don’t even know why anyone tries to debate this. Pagasus is unbalanced

LMFAO Midship/ Truth “Breaks” under BR starts? Oh ok not like it BRs on midship isn’t considered one of the greates Halo setups of all time
I am still yet to see these “Br campers”. Positive this is just an excuse people use just like they use lag as an excuse
