My ideal REQ system is a combination of the new and the old. I liked what 343i did with the REQ system, but with so many items in it makes the current grind feel like a never ending battle to unlock all the items. There needs to be a more efficient way of unlocking everything as I’m sure there will be this many if not more come time for Halo 6.

Separate the point and unlock system from Customization and Gameplay.
a. Instead of having to unlock all the power weapons, vehicles and power-ups with the customization why not have 2 types of packs and 2 types of points earned during matches?
b. The points would be XP (Experience Points), RP (REQ Points) & AP (Armor Points).
c. The first issue with that is that after you unlock all the customization or gameplay items those other points would be worthless. To combat that you would need to be able to convert them to the other point system. So people don’t just convert them all to the other to basically earn double the points every match they couldn’t be an equal transfer. When converting from one point system to the next you can only do so after earning 5000 or more and they are only equal to 50% of the points (5000 points in RP is now 2500 in AP).
d. I don’t mind the current Bronze, Silver & Gold unlock system and feel that that should stay the way it is.
-
Unlock some armor by achievement/Commendation instead of the REQ system.
a. Most of the armors labeled as “Mythic” should be earned by completing achievements and/or commendations.
b. These can be earned in the Campaign as well as multiplayer depending on what the particular requirements would be.
-
Unlock a few armors simply by reaching a rank associated with a characters UNSC number.
a. By using Blue Team’s number (ex. 117, 87, 34) the player could earn the body armor for that character when they reach the number that matches their rank. I think the helmet should be completed by earning a commendation of some sort during campaign (obviously 117 would be more difficult).
-
Random Certification (or random REQ cards if already attained) earned weekly/monthly
a. On a weekly and monthly basis there should be a certification that could be earned by completing a random task issued by 343i. Weekly ex. Kill 4 Hunters and earn Scorpion Certification/2 one use cards, Monthly ex. Kill 5 Warden Eternals and earn ONI Scorpion Certification/2 one use cards).
b. This would increase players’ incentive to play certain game modes to unlock something.
c. A similar tactic could be done on some armor sets as well.
-
Login incentive
a. There already is a daily login and a daily win pack but they should go beyond that a little.
b. Weekly login pack (login 7 days in a row) earns 2 more cards than daily pack
c. Monthly login pack (login 30 days in a row) earns 5 more cards than daily login and all are Ultra rare and above.
Honestly, I like all your ideas. I think separate customization itens and weapons would be cool, but, there should be a way you can earn some weapon certifications and armor sets by multiple ways, not just an absurd unreachable challenge or through Req packs.

I wasn’t thinking to the extent of what the Achilles armor set is for commendations, but something a little easier. Anything to take away the boring grind and make one want to try and do some random task to get an armor or certification.
On the weapons like you mentioned maybe a challenge once a month to earn some of the higher reqs. Maybe so many kills with an energy sword in a month you get the prophets bane? Granted a fairly high number so someone doesn’t get it in only a few matches.

There should be a balance where you unlock items naturally by completing commendations, buying REQ packs or completing challenges.
The problem is when you have tons of challenges to complete, but you can’t focus on them or you just play the game to get that specific item, you forget to “play to have fun”.

Finding the balance would be the hard part. That was part of the reason I wouldn’t have all the armors but the mythic ones. Vehicles and Weapons would be random and not be available every week or month. Apart from the challenge they would still be attainable through the req system and the challenge is more of a get it early ticket.
Agreed, balance is very important. I’ve been away from Halo 5 these days (but I really want to return, it’s not my fault), I’m level SR93… ask me if I ever driven a Phaeton on multiplayer?
The problem with the balance is to make the grind longer enough to make you interested unlocking items but fun and less painful at the same time.

I have yet to get the Pheaton and I’m sure they will be one of the last things I get. I’ve gotten some in the daily login but that’s about it.
My plan has been a mixture of reach, halo 3, and 5. I would have a set amount of armor that you can only get thru commendations or challenges. Then id have a system where every level or so you unlock new armor that you can buy with req points for a more expensive price than req packs. Then I’d have regular req packs like they are for warzone items or a chance at a random armor.
Id also have customization like reach where you could customize everything but I’d sell shoulders as a set so nobody gets pissed getting just one shoulder in a req pack.

I forgot all about the customization and purchasing armors that reach had. That would be a nice feature to get added in as well.
