I think it’s a reference to the original activation of the rings… anyway.
2: Also in that terminal, when you select normal difficulty it says you are not ready. yet.
Select Legendary though, and guess what? More references to “Betrayal” as seen in the recent promo for H5.
"I know what you’re here for. What position do I take? Will I follow one betrayal with another?
Sounds a lot like the predicament we find Locke and MC in, doesn’t it?
It goes on to say: “You’re going to say I’m making a habit of turning on my masters.”
and:
“And so here at the end of my life, I do once again betray a former master”
Do you think this could be clues to a link between the didact and MC, like many have suggested before me?
I think the more imporant line is where he tells chief “the road ahead is fraught with peril”. That’s not normally a line you use within 30 min of the end of a series
Just as the covenant misunderstood the forerunners messages, so have I. I stand corrected.
I still think there is some correlation between MC (working for UNSC and supposedly betraying his masters) and Mendicant Bias (working for Ur-Didact and betraying his masters).
“And so here at the end of my life, I do once again betray a former master. The path ahead is fraught with peril. But I will do all I can to keep it stable - keep you safe. I’m not so foolish to think this will absolve me of my sins. One life hardly balances billions. But I would have my masters know that I have changed. And you shall be my example.”
— Mendicant Bias to John-117.

That is correct, but Medicant also tells the early story of Didact and Librarian’s failing relationship, his own fall to the Gravemind and Offensive Bias’ battle with him. The theme of betrayal is a prominent theme with Medicant, and with Medicant possibly becoming more important, I would guess Chief’s story may parallel with his: the former hero of his people turning on his masters, no longer seeing himself bound by a leash to do their bidding and forging his own (initially destructive) path. But so far at best we can only form parallels.

What about the fact that John may have the Geas of the Didact. There are plenty of other parallels that get bought up on this subject. I just think its too much of a coincidence. The writers love it when everything is linked and comes full circle.
