Halo 5 rant!!! why 343!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

(Skip to the last paragraph for my final thoughts)

Just beat Halo 4 on heroic and OH MY GOD how I’ve forgotten how much I loved Halo 4’s campaign and the game as a whole. WHAT THE -Yoink- HAPPENED TO HALO 5!?!?!?!? So little content at launch, very slow to add them back (7 -Yoinking!- MONTH FOR INFECTION!?!?!?), very small armor customization, no forge at launch, THEATER MODE IS STILL -Yoinking!- BROKEN, everything is online only only exept the campaign, and oh my god, the campaign. WHAT THE -Yoink-!?!?!?!? You lied about the length, everything that you need to know is in the lore, barely any character development, Locke is dissapointing, blue team is disappointing, levels are short as -Yoink-, and the worst crime that you have ever committed, YOU REVIVED CORTANA, and not only is she back, SHE IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THAN WHAT WE HAD with ZERO explanation as to why.

Master Chief development in Halo 4 has been COMPLETELY wiped away in Halo 5. In fact, Halo 5 wiped away everything that came before it. Hunt the truth? That didn’t happen. Spartan ops? You know a lot of people hated it so let’s ignore that. That Elite in Halo Nightfall saying that it was only the beginning? That definitely didn’t happen. Halo 2 anniversary’s terminals, prologue, and epilogue? Well we mentioned the hunt for Arbiter. The Escalation comics? Nobody liked that so let’s pretend it didn’t happen! EVERYTHING that you were telling us pre-Halo 5? We didn’t say any of that. SEE WHAT I -Yoinking!- MEAN!?!?!?!?

Halo 5 has so many questionable decisions that I’m here wondering why! WHAT THE -Yoink- HAPPENED DURING DEVELOPMENT!?!?!?!?!?!? Yeah there’s a “leak” that has been a discussion topic a month ago that I believe but now I just want the actual truth coming from 343’s mouth! Why did Halo 5 release with so little content? Why is Halo 5’s campaign so disappointing and so disconnected to the universe? WHY EVERYTHING!?!?!?!?!?!? 343, you are only making yourselfs look worse by not coming out crystal-clear. I know you have a passion to #makehalogreatagain and I can see that thanks to The Sprint, but you need to tell us the truth. What happened in Halo 5’s development and why did it happen?

From what I’ve seen from Halo Wars 2 I am excited to what it holds for the franchise’s story and if it can fix it, byt after what happened with Halo 5 my expectations are VERY low. Halo 5 did a big damage to the franchise that Halo 4 was probably gonna revive. The whole point I wonna give out is this, I don’t hate Halo 5. I think Halo 5 is a great game and that each month made it better, but there are so many things wrong with it with reasons I explained above. I just hope that 343 has FINALLY learned and that Halo 6 can be the game that we all wanted Halo 5 to be.

Thanks for reading this pretty long rant and happy gaming!

Chill man.

They explain quite well how and why Cortana changes. And yeah… Chill.

Not really since it requires retcons for events that never happened in Halo 4 to work. The Didact’s ship went into slipspace with her on it. When did that happen at Halo 4’s end? It didn’t. Know where that event comes from? A forum post by the 343 account known as Catalog in 2014, two years after Halo 4 launched. She says she finds the Domain, but how does that explain her newfound desire to take over the Galaxy? It doesn’t and we get no real hints.

Also, people at 343 lied about her being dead to begin with and did nothing in the expanded universe besides a forum post to foreshadow her return. This bit of the narrative failed.

I feel like 85% of this post was repeated during Halo 4’s launch from Chief in Halo 3.

Halo 4 almost wiped the name Halo off the map from the multiplayer alone.

The whole reason she has changed is because she has found the ability for AI to live forever! Your outlook on life most certainly would change if you could live forever too! I will give you that the transition for 4 to 5 for those who do not follow the lore was abysmal. They didn’t lie. They simply withheld the truth for a time, which isn’t unheard of. They are also releasing a book (Tales from Slipspace?) that fill some of the gap, however I understand that isn’t enough because it only fills in a small population on what happened.

They said she was dead for years and Brian Reed the day before launch said she was killed in Halo 4. All they had to do was say her fate was unknown just like they did and have been doing with the Didact. And sorry, but being able to live forever (or so Cortana thinks) shouldn’t cause her to think murdering innocent people and being a manipulative and psychological abusive person is okay. It demeans her character and does not honor her legacy as Frankie said they wanted to do. I could understand if they were going for a Dr. Manhattan psychology for Cortana in Halo 5, but all I see is some power hungry character who suddenly feels like AIs are meant to rule because of reasons not gone over in the game.

That statement so true haha. I know few people likes and prefers h4 multiplayer but the majority don’t even want to talk about the disaster that hit the halo nation.

It’s like people don’t realize there’s going to be plenty more games, books, and ancillary material in the future to explain the things that don’t make immediate sense. Like the fact that Cortana isn’t behaving like herself is very obviously hinting at something sinister going on in the background. It could be something involving the Didact, the Logic Plague from her exposure to the Gravemind, or even the Domain itself affecting her state of mind.

The point OP is trying to make (or at least I think) is that you should be fully able to follow the story without ancillary material.

Of corse people realize that, but outlining that in a future product is making the same mistake 343 made with the Didact by tying too much of his development in the EU and showing why he is nuts in Silentium, a book that released 5 months after Halo 4 released. Josh Holmes admitted at GDC that this was a problem with the Didact and wouldn’t you know it the guy who was billed as Chief’s first true nemesis was deemed extraneous to Halo 5’s story and seemingly replaced with a brought back from the dead Cortana. And her journey to the Domain will happen a year after Halo 5 launched in a comic anthology. Because I suppose doing that in Halo 5 was too much work.

But hey, I guess her being under mind control wouldn’t be too bad if you don’t mind recycling a portion of Halo 3’s plot.

I highly doubt the Didact is gone for good. It’s a 95% probability he’s only gone for the moment, if it isn’t already the composed Didact pulling the strings behind the scenes, that is.

I didn’t say he was gone for good, but it’s ridiculous that a living Forerunner, the guy hyped up as Chief’s first true nemesis, and the character claimed by Frankie to be essential to post-Halo 4 fiction was shelved after an appearance in Escalation and deemed unnecessary for Halo 5’s story.

If something big forced 343i to change their path, it was probably their parent Microsoft. If that’s the case, they won’t throw them under the bus. It’s their job to roll with it and take any praise/blame.

Or in Frankie’s case mock anybody who felt Cortana was evil as a young fan who doesn’t get subtlety and nuance. I get defending unwanted choices made by the boss, but that’s just patronizing.

Halo 4 > Halo 5… Truth

Yeah, that one was rough. It’s like that was the only thing he could come up with on the spot and has had to stick with it.

HEAVILY disagree with that.

Halo 4’s multiplayer was the closest it’s ever been to Call of Duty, more than any other Halo. It took everything bad from Reach and made it worse (just like how Reach took things from 3 and made it worse) in a blatant attempt to catch the CoD crowd before Black Ops II came out.

No reach was unbalanced PoS. At least 4 balanced the armor abilities compared to reach. Reach was down right horrible. I’ll take Halo 4 over Reach any day of the week.

Exactly this…
