Halo 5 Ranks, Leagues and Icons!

I believe one of the main reasons previous Halos were so successful was due to the competitive ranking system, including TrueSkill and the rank icon that would appear next to your name/gamertag.

TrueSkill/Rank Icon:

These elements were combined and you required to have a certain amount of TrueSkill to receive a higher rank in Halo 3, which would also reward you with a rank icon, such as ‘General’.

Isn’t having an icon next to your name to represent your rank more satisfying than ‘SR130’? Maybe this is the reason Call of Duty prestige ranks mean so much - icons, which give the player a sense of accomplishment.

TrueSkill is a very flawed, but rewarding system that made the player strive to improve and enticed them to play more. Having your personal TrueSkill visible to other players and yourself made it all the better. Maybe this can be replaced by ‘Leagues’, similar to the ones you find in StarCraft II.

Competition is essential, and FUN.
Please bring back rank icons, and a more improved competitive ranking system that is visible in-game.

Agreed.

This is what needs to be done:

A in-game visible true skill system
Ranked/Social Playlist

Playlist ranks for both Ranked/Social just like Halo 3

A third symbol rank for all the exp you get while playing that is also linked to your rank. Something more like Reach’s exp system to take some time.

I’m fine with the CSR Team based system that 343 has now. Also MM needs to be like Halo 3 were when you searched by yourself you’d either get a game full of other people searching solo or you would get matched with 3 people searching and another team of 3 with a solo player too.

This makes for more far games because when you search with a team and get matched with a team of 4 random people who werent searching together basically gives you a free win.

This makes searching alone a pain.

Of the two options, I definitely like Halo 3’s, but overall I would like something a bit different. I think doing something similar to League of Legends with the divisions and seasons is a good idea. I know that they tried something like that with Halo Reach, but for some reason it did not work out all that well and there was only the one playlist with ranks. Overall, any kind of ranking system is best though because then the better players and less experienced players will always have better matches since they will be matched against others around their level. Without ranks, it feels like there is less to work towards and normal games involve one side that it mush more skilled than the other. This ruins the experience on both sides because one side is not being challenged and the other is just getting demolished.

I think a mix between Halo: Reach’s and Halo 3’s ranking system would be best because I felt Halo Reach’s rank were more appealing in looks, but now you earn them like you would in H3.

This. Reach’s for progressive unlocking stuff and 3’s social/ranked for everyone to be happy

Indeed.

I agree, Reach’s style of ranks were very appealing.

We need a ranked and social split first.

We need to keep the EXP system for those who just wanna unlock helmets by playing a lot of games and achieve things by EXP.

But we need a skill based ranking system that gives us all a rank for each individual ranked playlist. That ranking system should be 1-50 IMO.

It’s almost a decade since Halo 2 came out, surely there’s something that could be done to stop boosting, like stopping people from going into team playlists with other players who are less than 5 ranks below them. A level 40 should not be able to go into team slayer with a level 6 and get matched up with level 25’s in an “even match”.

Well I’m pretty sure that they got the guy who was behind the StarCraft II ranking. I imagine that there would be leagues: Recruit-Sergeant-Captain-General-Onyx
Each of which having about 10 levels difference(like Reach’s “Grade?”)and icons displaying such. It has a gauge,
Recruit=1 win 50% of grade
=1 bonus score/assist MVP 25% of grade
=1 game cliché MVP(top of scoreboard) 50% of grade

As player climbs up each league, the bonuses decrease by 10% and the kill/assist one by 5%

However, I think that the arena ranks should be as long as Reach’s and have numbers or dynamics much like Halo 4’s.

There should be also Ranked and Social Playlists.

Ranking up would consist of:

W/L for team based games,
Best players on either teams however rank up, while the worsts players rank down along with the loss penalization. Most Assists and Most kills(MVPs) may either lock the player(if lost) in place, or rank up .5.
Loss= -1
Win= +1
Most Assists= +.5
Most kills= +.5
Overall best score = +1
Worst Score= -1
Cannot be combined with exception to loss deranking, and the overall score MVP and Win bonuses.
Can be cancelled out(+1 + -1= 0)

Score for FFA games
(top 25% move up, middle stays, lowest 25% derank)
Simple top 3 move up until Onyx.

This is my possible ranking system.

A very good sounding ranking system, although it would be more fair if there is a given ‘bonus pool’ of points for players who do not play as often so that they remain in a league for a given time. The most active and best players (who have depleted their bonus pool and remain active throughout a season) will be placed within ‘Oynx’ (Top 100).

Seriously, a mix of Reach/3.

Something tells me this is going to happen.
