I have made a thread previously regarding Halo 5’s Ranking system, but nobody paid attention to it, so I’m going to give it another go. Halo 5 Beta’s Ranking System is exactly like Halo 4’s ranking system, and I don’t think many people liked it. The individual playlist ranks didnt even play a part in the overall rank, so in my opinion, theyre pretty useless outside of finding people of similar skill. Almost every Halo fan (at least pre-Halo: Reach) would say their favorite ranking system structure was Halo 2 or 3 because of 1-50 skills ranking, or 1-50 + Exp ranking. This Is an expansion on H5 Beta’s ranking system that is similar to the 1-50 system and Reach’s Credits system. I’ve created three tables that show the structure of the ranking system, two are for global ranking ideas, and one is for individual playlist ranking. I’ve noticed that the average XP per win in the Halo 5 beta was around 1000, and the average XP per loss was around 500.

Please comment with feedback, would be greatly appreciated!
It just needs to be skill orientated. Not some CoD system we had in H4. Ranking up was so fast and too easy

Thats what I liked about Halo 3’s ranking system, even if you weren’t good enough to hit skill level 40, there was still alot of room to rank up. I feel like the structure itself catered to everyone, even if it was a little broken (Boosting). You also couldnt hit max rank without having a certain level of skill, which is how it should be.
As Fifty said, it’s far too easy to level in this. I also detested the way the beta’s was solely based upon your team’s performance, and not the entirety of YOU and your team. If you won, you were ranked higher. That’s just sad. I never get good teams, as I play solo. I think it should do something with the player being the majority of it’s skill rank, then you get a bit of points if you won, but you lose a bit from your performance points if you lost.

Well that’s exactly how Halo 3 and Halo 2 were with their 1-50 systems, it’s just represented in a different form in Halo 5. Also, the Halo 5 Skill system is actually more forgiving in the sense that if you get to onyx tier, you cant drop back down to the Gold tier.
Halo 5s ranking system is alot like league of legends which is the best ranking system in video games. They only problem I saw was they had different ranks inter mingling.

You still have to get a team together, or get very lucky to maintain teams that GET you to Onyx. I can’t say I’m the best by any means, but I was 2.5 K/D for the beta, and barely got 3rd tier Gold. Just couldn’t manage to get teams good enough to keep me up.
I like the idea of having the overall SR that is a linear progression system (yes, like CoD and Halo 4). I like it because no matter what I play, I’m adding to that rank and making progress. It adds a bit of incentive play the social playlists, which is definitely a good thing.
That said, playlist-specific skill-based ranks are a necessity. The kinds of ranks that go up if you do well and go down if you do poorly, like we’re used to in Halo.
I think Halo 5 has done a really good job of separating those types of ranking systems, so that the competitive players have their skill ranks without leaving the casual players out in the cold without any kind of progression system.

I had an 8.0 for most of the beta, and only made it to tier 1 Gold, which is ridiculous. I think the ranking system needs to start factoring in personal performance. Sometimes you just get those awful teammates and no matter how well you do, they tank the game for you. It’s really awful when it’s just one guy who can’t figure out how to not die.

That’s still what it was like in Halo 3 and 2 haha. if you went into a team playlist that was ranked by your self, the chances of getting teamed up with inadequately skilled people rises. If you go in with 3 people that you could communicate with and you generally knew how they played, it would increase the chances of winning the game.
XP Rank: Rewards play time with Req Packs.
CSR: Works like basically every sports league. Its better than Halo 2’s/3’s. At lower level 1-50 worked fine but at 50 it kind of fell apart because you could theoretically have a wide skill gap even at the 50 level. With Pro and Semi Pro divisions, you’re being ranked directly against the other players and not the ‘game’ so to speak.

XP Rank: Also rewards with armor and weapon skins, as well as emblems. Could also reward the player with higher ranks, an actual goal to pursue.
CSR: Its a skin over the 1-50 system, it probably will work better than the original systems but it is essentially the same. Once again, could reward the player with higher ranks, giving a player a reason to increase their skill and keep playing the game.
Does anybody else have any input on this?
Ok i think i need to give a reason as to why this is so important.
Halo 3 had a very long life, there was always a new rank to achieve unless you were a five star general, which there wasnt many of.
Halo: Reach had a decently long life because it took a very long time to get to inheritor, and the commondations were more epic to achieve.
Halo 4 had a short life for a variety of reasons. For me, it was because it took me about 2 months of off and on gaming to hit the max rank, and the commendations were pretty tucked away compared to Reach’s.
Halo 5 will face Halo 4’s demise if its system isnt changed. And why will the playlist ranking systems be a big deal other than finding people similar to you in skill? The thing is, it wont have any point at all, there has to be a system that melds skill and dedication evenly.
Thats why Halo 5 will be much better of returning to Halo 3’s concept.
I think they should bring back the ranking system from halo reach, it was my favorite by far and I am pretty sure it was the best out of all of them!

Have you played Halo 3?
