Halo 5 Ranking System

I am posting this here because I am trying to get actual input on this, which just cannot be achieved in the Halo 5 forum with everyone’s complaining about split-screen and no playable elites. And this seems as good a place as any to get this out there, it is made with the intent of trying to support Halo and make it a better game :stuck_out_tongue:

So I made this thread previously regarding Halo 5’s Ranking system, but nobody paid attention to it, so I’m going to give it another go. Halo 5 Beta’s Global Ranking System is almost exactly like Halo 4’s, it all had to do with how much you played, and getting to the max rank took only a little amount of time. Ranks in Halo have traditionally meant something, dedication and skill, and its drifting away from this, all that is remaining is a number saying this is how little of a life you have (lol). The individual playlist ranks didn’t even play a part in the overall rank, so in my opinion, they’re pretty useless outside of finding people of similar skill. When there isn’t a goal to strive for, like 5-star general, a lot of people will drift away from the game and find one that will make them feel like they are accomplishing something. I think this was a big factor for why Halo 4 didn’t have a long life (among other things), it had no incentive. You hit SR 130, and then what? There was nothing left to do. This idea would bring back that incentive to continue playing multiplayer, the joy of achieving the higher ranks, wanting to grow your skill and get to those ranks. I strongly believe that if the system is not expanded from Halo 5’s beta, it will dwindle in population just like Halo 4 did.

This idea is an expansion on H5 Beta’s ranking system that is a combination 1-50 system and Reach’s Credits system (Halo 3’s global ranking system). I’ve created three tables that show the structure of the ranking system, two are for global ranking ideas, and one is for individual playlist ranking. I’ve noticed that the average XP per win in the Halo 5 beta was around 1000, and the average XP per loss was around 500.

Note: This would be very easy to implement in game, mostly because the XP and iron-pro tiers are already there, its just giving a better representation of them. I want Halo to be as successful as it can be, and I can say with complete certainty that this system will help.

Please comment with feedback, it would be greatly appreciated!

Halo 5’s ranking system isn’t purely progression based. You gain points by playing matches and winning, but if you lose then you lose points and rank down. There are some good overviews of the ranking system here and here on Team Beyond, explains everything pretty well if you haven’t read it. That was from the Halo 5 Beta, but I don’t think there will be a great deal of change for the final game. There will be something strive for, namely being rated in the top 200 to get to the pro division.

Well each individual playlist has a ranking system that is based on skill, and then theres an overall ranking system based on how much you play. If people have reached their highest level of skill and no room to progress in that department, what else is there to do? In halo 3, even if you hit your max skill level (whether that be 35, 45, or 50) you still wanted to play so you can get your overall rank higher. And for the overall ranks, its like halo 4, you rank up by finishing games and not by performing well. I will say that i like the playlist skill ranking system (with a few tweaks here and there), i just hope it becomes more versatile in the ranking structure.

I preferred Halo Reach ranking system more than Halo 4 but I don’t believe that ranking system is really needed anymore. I feel as though the ranking didn’t really show your skill in Halo from Reach up until Guardians it was pretty useless. But the ranking system in Halo MCC was much more effective than the current ranking systems you could go up or down depending on how well you during a match showing an accurate display of your skill. If they could do something like that alongside titles like the ones in Reach than the ranking system would be better.

Halo reach and Halo 4 were exactly the same in regards to how the worked, one had numbers as the rank, the other had actual ranks. What I’m saying is essentially Halo 3’s ranking system, which is MCC’s with alot more depth, and had a better overall concept and implementation.
