So, it occurred to me (and a small, small group of you :P) that the ranking systems in Halo 4 are not liked. I have a suggestion that covers both sides of the spectrum and has something new.
Ranking Systems:
There would be three rank systems.
There is your Competitive Rank, your 1-50.
Your progression system, reach style, purely for cosmetics
And the new and revamped specializations stat tracking system!
Specializations are now not prestige wannabes, but keep track of your playstyle. there is no “cap” on how you earn into them. There are self-sustaining milestones that constantly increase by a percentage of the last milestone. when you hit a milestone, you get a corresponding amount of progression rank exp/credits. Your rewarded not for going out of your way to earn a specific challenge, rather rewarded for getting better at how you like to play. the rewards would be XP and credits for Customization rank.
Like Halo 4, there would be multiple specializations. Unlike Halo 4, they do not unlock any cosmetics. this would cause you to have go out of your comfort zone for some cool item. That’s bad, no-one should be forced to play in a way they dislike for 1 cosmetic piece. The separate specializations would track different styles of gameplay, such as gaining points towards Tracker by sniping, or Towards Operator By Driving/Gunning a vehicle.
The listing would simply show how many milestones you have hit in that specialization. This can give players a better idea of your playstyle than a K/D ever can.
what are your thoughts on this style?
I think this would be pretty cool. I know people love their rank (1-50), myself included, but your adaptation towards unlocking cosmetics would help the more casual players who don’t care about their 1-50 rank.
I can see how you would track thinks like weapons used. This person has a ton of rocket kills, they must like to blow things up with rockets. But how would you track things like driving? If it’s about getting wheelman, maybe you just have a terrible gunner who can’t get kills and then you get nothing for you efforts because someone else is in control of your advancement. If it’s about miles traversed, then what’s to stop people from just driving around the perimeter of the map and not helping with the objective or killing opponents? How about things like objective play? Track flag grabs, flag caps, ball time, hill time? I could see someone upping their flag grabs by juggling the flag (assuming they let you drop the flag since there was a pretty big backlash from the community about that). Maybe just flag grabs off of the flag spawn marker?
I only ask because there are people who find flaws to abuse every system. I would much rather just have the first two so it satisfies both peoples needs, rather than add another one that could potentially be detrimental to gameplay. I do like a system for showing peoples play styles though. I think you’re on to something with what you have.
Also, my job requires me to try and exploit things, so I’m not trying to put you down or tear your idea apart, I’m trying to help you improve your idea the best I can.
I think this is a cool good idea… competitive always…a good idea for ranking and the halo reach system is nice because it gives those people that just play for fun something to gain or shoot for after putting so much time into the game. …and the special well that’s ok just gives us something else to do. …in order to keep people playing u have to give reason to not just for kills… some kids just aren’t good at it and if they can’t rank up competitively they get bored too hard stop playing. … so again that reach style also included will be fun for them and the cooler looking ranks and the more u have the longer they play. … i also liked reaches special unlocking for the Spartans like the flaming head… inclement weather (lighting )… u could do something like that to. … that was cool. … and new ones like a glitching Spartan or like saber effects…or smoke… just other ideas anyway your on the right track!!!
