Is there any way to find out how many players are playing Halo 5?
I’ve only had the message once saying that there were not enough players to find a match of Breakout but I am seeing high wait times for some matchmaking and regularly playing the same players etc.
Just waited at least 5 minutes to be placed in a breakout game as I was typing this. Ended up being 3 on 4… we won! Yay.
Made sure it wasn’t an internet issue. Its not always like this but I just worry that if they add more playlists I’ll just be playing the same handful of players in Arena over and over which can get boring.

I’ll give a few reasons for this behaviour:
ranked based matchmaking
a little drop of population
**Region lock activated since early February.**The latter is undoubtfully the worst one: prevents you to find players outside your zone even if no players are available at all (because for example you are playing at late night or early morning or work hours).
Before February i could find matches at light speed, very often they were against Americans with high latency (and this is the reason of region lock), so the locked all up with the hope of make us happier finding low latency games with nearer players in nearer servers.
Results? Matches are better most of the time, but sometimes they’re like playing with americans or worst (but no americans in lobby), and off peak hours you will struggle to find a game in less populated playlists (but sometimes also in the most populated ones).
To make an example:
Friday morning, around 7.29 AM (in east coast 1.29 AM), i tried to find some games. The result was a full half an hour watching the screen with those “Unable to match” messages every 5 minutes. I tried BTB, Slayer, Arena, WZA and WZ.
Most of my friends stoped playing Halo 5 because of the pro players who can kill you with a single shot. This is no fun for anyone except the pro players.

Yeah but prevent entirely from playing when not enough players in your zone can be found is total bullish*t.
I’m glad to wait 1-2 minutes for better games, after that widen the range instead of keeping trying to find nothing until timeout and repeat, repeat, repeat…
There are entire states (Australia for example) full of players that doesn’t give a sh*t of lag because aren’t able to find a game at all.

Right now, with pro players smurfing, it’s like Roger Federer showing up to your local tennis courts with a mask on. Surprise surprise, it doesn’t help the game of tennis.
Region lock wouldn’t be a problem if the game could keep its players. That’s why so many games now a days don’t have region lock because they just cant keep players. Its really not a surprise considering how most games are being released with less and less content.
Sorry for late reply but I’m still on my 2 posts a day haha
I’m in the UK so I’d have thought the population would be alright for my region… It’s definitely a case of playing in sociable hours. Try getting a game of breakout in the early hours of the morning and there’s nobody around.
Its sad that this is even a thing for Halo as I wish it could return to the huge populations it had back in’t day but I still have hope for it. Love this game. Hopefully it’ll pick up and with each update I am enjoying the game even more.
Must admit that when I play with my friends who predominantly rank in silver and gold I feel quite bad playing others in those leagues, but at least I get a game. When I team up with my onyx crew we usually play the same guys over and over.

I dont think region lock was necessary, just stick with region until a few minutes has passed then widen the search to other regions. At least games can be found at off peak times.
lol I remember playing with you yesterday. I made my placing matches in Breakout as well. I had search times of 10-20 minutes and even when adding a friend from the US we still searched forever and matched the same people again and again.
I have problems in many playlists because I am high ranked and from EU. Bravo said they are looking into it.

They should have made that up to the player - whether they prefer low-latency games or not playing any games at all.

I think it’s more of a server issue since it’s been happening for a couple of months in Halo 5. has been getting worse, nearly as bad as Halo MCC’s servers.
Failed to load dedicated servers
Req’s not showing up
Unable to sell REQ junk
Disconnects after game sometimes
Default player with temporary rank resetIt’s been problematic, the servers are getting worse, hate to think about how worse it’ll get when there focus becomes Halo 6 is today.
I find games almost instantly once I connect to the server. Also I was playing Matchmaking with my American friend (I’m Australian) so maybe the region lock isn’t in effect?
EU Arena playlists have a lot of variance throughout the day in my experience. FFA lobbies time out before finding any players more than any others though.
ATM it is midday in the UK… some people will be at work but most kids are off now as its half term. Its crazy that I can’t find a game at this time!
Worth noting that the other night me and friend stayed up pretty late and it got to this point again where we couldn’t get a game on the EU side so we invited in a friend from the US, made him party leader and it matched us in seconds.
Feels pretty game breaking atm for my experience anyway. Hope they revise the system that’s in place, I cant justify waiting 10-15 minutes for a match.
