Recently I have noticed there is a lot less wait time while searching for matches, finding matches can take a while for me especially as I am a EU player,
has this game got a boost in population?

Probably. Game pass and people getting the game on the Christmas sale may have brought new players. Ive also noticed faster match times compared to last year.
And let’s not forget, with Master Chief’s introduction into fortnite, I’m sure that didn’t hurt in introducing gamers who’ve never heard of Halo to it…
I think the SR152 reward announcement also reinvigorated a lot of dormant H5 players. I’ve also been noticing no issue getting matches quickly.
So I was recently introduced to below. 5K players on H5 right now: http://spartanfinder.com/
Holidays and time off probably helping too. Cool to track.
Probably more people are playing to try and get the SR152 reward for Infinite
Games do seem easier to find since the 152 announcement. I’ve invited people to play with me and most say they are trying for 152.
I stopped playing around a year ago because I couldn’t find matches and when I did it was against sweats. I came back this November and it’s been great, I can find games and I usually fight similar skilled players. I think I just needed a break from playing halo 5 after playing it for 5 years and I feel many also felt the same way.
Definitly a combo of the 152 reward reveal, MC in fortnite, H5 on gamepass, and the holidays with kids getting games.
Depends on how long it has been since you started playing again. 343 introduced TrueMatch to Halo 5 earlier this year. It continuously optimizes the matchmaker’s parameter settings and expands data center availability via computer learning. It overrides the search preferences and the previous preset playlist parameter limits in order to get players into matches within ~5 minutes. It alone has certainly made it seem like there was a boost in population as timeouts rarely if ever happen anymore and search times often don’t go beyond 5 minutes.
I think it was all of those things combined
