Halo 5 Plot Theory

Back Plot (Act 1)
As we know, from Halo 4… John was given a ‘gift’ by the Librarian Imprint. This theorized gift, was initially a resistance to the composer but could be a GEA being unlocked, through speeding up the evolutionary state in John. The GEA in John, could be a possible character mentioned from the Forerunner-Human or Forerunner-Flood Wars. This may have been what Halsey initially saw in her Spartan-II candidates in 2552. Halo has had various mediums(Novels, Comics, Films Series, Collectibles, Video Games) to address the canon stories and history, this has given us a variety of resources to give evidence to John having a certain known Forerunners GEAs.

In Halo Combat Evolved… When John was acquiring the index, 343 Guilty Spark (Chakas) was saying to John “Last time, you asked me, if it were my choice, would I do it? Having had considerable time to ponder your query, my answer has not changed.” This same sentence is what the Iso-Didact(Bornstellar Makes Eternal Lasting) said to Chakas, 100 000 years previously. Quite funny too that John almost activates the ring world and other arrays, thus repeating history(Bornstellar activated Rings via Lesser Ark). [Source: Halo Selentium and Halo CE, Halo CEA]

In Halo 4… When Master Chief is pursuing the Ur-Didact on Requiem and on his Forerunner flagship, Mantles Approach; Chief hears the Ur-Didact voice inside his head, much like how Cortana speaks through John’s armour and neural implants, while different to Cortana as well. When John asks if Cortana can hear the Ur-Didact too, she states their is no activity on the comm channels and she can’t hear anything. This clues a connection between John and the Ur-Didact which is already manifesting…

As everyone knows John’s steadfast companion, through the franchise, is an smart AI named Cortana. Cortana is modeled from a cloned brain from Catherine Elizabeth Halsey. I believe the Librarian has given Elizabeth Halsey GEAs to and so informally giving them to Cortana as well. The only question of who…

In Halo Reach… When Noble Six arrives, to rescue Catherine Elizabeth Halsey, from the invaded ONI Facility, designate Sword Base. Cortana is being finalized in her making process using forerunner artifact to finish her. Noble Six is charged by Halsey, with escorting Cortana’s data chip to Jacob Keyes, captain of the UNSC Pillar of Autumn, a Halycon-class light cruiser. Noble Six successfully completes his mission and Keyes commands Cortana does an emergency slip space, upholding the Cole Protocol. The Pillar of Autumn emergency jump brings them to a Halo Array, Installation 04A. She gathered the information from the forerunner artifact on Reach.

Halo 4… states that Cortana had something done to her by the Librarian Imprint, but she doesn’t know what, a first for Cortana. And when John is being spoken to by the Forerunner Imprint, she states that John and Cortana are an eventuality and that his combat skin, augmentations and AI are a thousand lifetimes of planning.

Many things state that John possesses traits of the Iso-Didact too; when they were young they were rough and rebellious; they both share an involuntary ability to lead their race in times of peril, and in my opinion the Iso-Didact has favor like John with his luck. John constantly prevails, survives and wins; Iso-Didact finds Chakas, Riser and releases the Ur-Didact from his Cryptum, finds what he wants(Precursor Artifact), and later wins the Librarian who favors him for than the Ur-Didact, Wins his arguements in the Forerunner court, Survives in flood space, Doesn’t go mad when he talked to the Primordial.

So my theory is John has GEAs of the Iso-Didact and Cortana/Halsey has GEAs of Librarian. For people who state that a person has to be dead to use them as GEAs where does it states this?

mind = blown

I know what I’m reading tonight.

For Chief, I think he may have a connection with the Didact, after all he could hear him just like Bornsteller did in Cryptum. A connection with the Iso-Didact is possible, but I guess it just depends on what happened to the Iso-Didact, Chant-to-Green and the rest of the Forerunner population. How the Librarian AI on Requiem could give Chief the Iso-Didact’s geas despite being disconnected with the rest of the Forerunners beats me.

Act 1 Resurgence (Prologue Cutscene)

Defintion: Resurgence - an increase or revival after a period of little activity, popularity, or occurrence.

It has been almost a year since the First Requiem Campaign, Master Chief resides on Earth while the UNSC Infinity and her crew are in pursuit of the renegade leader Jul Mdama, the Insurrectionist Scientist Catherine Elizabeth Halsey and the lifeworker half of the Janus Key. John is still unaware of many events, namely of Doctor Halsey deserting the UNSC due the assassination attempt on her life; and Arbiter Thel’Vadam surviving the ark portal, in the front end of the UNSC Forward Unto Dawn; among other things…

Master Chief has defeated the Ur-Didact, and has been debriefed by ONI about the events of the Lesser Ark Campaign and of the First Requiem Campaign. ONI psychologist has denoted that the Master Chief Petty Officer John-117 has sociopathic tendencies, and finds himself alone and without family or friends. He possesses major issues in that once he finds a sense of family he will do anything to protect them, even disobey direct orders from a commanding officer. To counteract this issue they brought in familiar faces from John’s recruitment days, to try to rehabilitate John after his trauma, Spartan-II Commandos Kelly-087, Fred-104 and Linda-054. Blue Team is then debriefed about Catherine Halsey having died by a Storm Covenant and Promethean invasion of UNSC Infinity, in the Second Requiem Campaign. They silently mourn the death of their surrogate mother and mentor.

Having had considerable time apart from a team and each other, John and Blue Team are honing their skills as a team again, when suddenly John falls down and gets painful flashback images of the past, that progressively get for vivid and hurting him more. First flashback is Cortana, then of Arbiter Thel’Vadam, then of Sergeant Avery Junior Johnson, then 343 Guilty Spark, the Prophet of Truth, Fleetmaster Rtas’Vadum, Lord Terrance Hood, Prophet of Mercy, Gravemind, Prophet of Regret, Commander Miranda Keyes, and then of nothing… blurry blackness fills his mind and he passes out. He awakes in the medical bay, the doctor and a helmet less Blue Team surround Chief, they explain the situation and how he tried to fight them it took all three members of Blue Team to immobilize him. The doctor deemed the Master Chief, too mentally unstable and unfit for further service, on ONI’s request, he then has another flashback but this one hurts even worse then before, he starts seeing something different, memories but none of these are his own. Three figures stand in the middle of a chamber or council room, surrounded by other figures, which Chief recognizes are all Forerunner, two of the figures have familiar faces which Chief recognizes are the Forerunners known as the Librarian and the Ur-Didact, and a currently unknown Forerunner with a helmet. Constant squabbling between these three figures, with the council chamber voicing their thoughts to, gets abruptly out of hand; a unknown voice that speaks strength, resilience and unity quietens the court room, he then pleads his case, Chief then realizes he is the mysterious voice of reason. After discovering that he is reliving a Forerunners memories he finds out that the memory belongs to the another Forerunner named Didact(Ur-Didact and Fabar) or Bornstellar(Librarian); then just as quickly as it started Chief wakes up wearing his armour with the the Doctor incapacitated in Chief’s right arm. Chief in fear, admits to the murder and commits himself to the UNSC maximum penitentiary prison, on the way to the prison Master Chief has another flashback of the Iso-Didact. He discovers a location of another forerunner cryptum on Earth, or Erde Tyrene as the Forerunner called it. He has two companions, who appear human in nature but with bronze skin and lacked hair, who he finds out are named Chakas and Day-Chaser Makes Paths Long-Stretch Morning Riser, or Morning Riser for short. The two companions lead Chief or Iso-Didact to a place the locals called the Djamonkin Crater. Chief didn’t recognize this landmark but might know someone who does Halsey she may also be able to help him with the flashbacks, John-117 reawakens to the inmates and the guards all dead, he tries to escape but the pelican crashes. A lone pelican arrives overhead, Chief assumes it is to recapture the inmates and search for survivors, he grabs a guards assault rifle and hides in the bushes. Three figures exit the pelican, who John recognizes as Blue Team, he approaches with Blue Team all targeting John cautiously, John having explained his situation and theory to fix it, Blue Team then mentions that in his flashbacks he did say some weird things in an unknown language and agree to assist John finding Halsey, who now discovers she is with the Storm Covenant from Blue Team who found out from an ONI private comm channel after trying to find John. John and Blue Team use the pelican to highjack a UNSC corvette at ONI Headquarters and help Master Chief get his Mjolnir Armour VI, which is encased in a glass cabinet, along with a data chip on a chain hanging around the neck of the armour set, much like a dog tag on marines. Blue Team and John now are on a race against time to reach Halsey before the UNSC Infinity can finish it’s mission.

Idea of the plot of Act 1, Master Chief GEAs assuming it is the Iso-Didact’s subconscious thoughts, I wanted Chief to start getting memories from Bornstellar’s life, like Bornstellar did from the original Didact when being mutated. I chucked in the idea of the Cryptum in the Crater, as it is on Earth and could be recognized by Chief, having see one already. I then made it that whenever Chief has a flashback, he looses control because he is reliving a horrible event like the xenocide of the Forerunners by the Flood, as his mental stability and physche is being challenged as well as Chief finally feeling weak(physical pain) and emotional(fear), thus discovering his humanity at a more in-depth level. I picked Halsey as a objective or solution, as she is the next best thing to the Librarian and that John and Blue Team think of her as a mother, and will protect her always; although the Librarian or lifeshaper Chant To Green could have been just as suitable, and Chief and Blue Team needed to find the rogue UNSC ship Rubicon to interrogate 343 Guilty Spark and use him to find her. I also made John-117’s armour and a data chip on the chain to both connect to the Halo 5 trailer but also that ONI is honoring their most promising spartan and the smart AI, Cortana after their heroism and saving humanity countless times.

Good theory, I like it.

One thing though, Cortana wasn’t created using Forerunner artefact under Sword Base, she was created back in 2549. ‘Most’ of Cortana was with John and the Pillar Of Autumn in the last days of Reach leading up to Operation Red Flag, while a fragment of her was being used by Halsey to data mine the artefact.

Later, after NOBLE 6 delivered the fragment to Keys, the fragment was reconnected with the true Cortana.

DecepticonCobra I noticed your a really integral part of the Waypoint Forums. Its states that GEAs are subconsious thoughts or memories that can be uploaded to a biological race. The Librarian puts GEAs on Humans both Ancient(Chamanune) and Current (-Yoink!--Sapien) which can be passed from generations until it hits its targeted host. And also the current status of Ur-Didact is unknown(Halo 4 Complete Visual Guide), Iso-Didact is unknown(Silentium), Chant-to-Green is unknown(Silentium) we know that the Librarian Imprint is dead (Halo 4 Spartan Ops) and the Librarian maybe dead or assumed dead(Halo 3 Terminals). I will say this though Forerunners are unique as they don’t have a human age cycle, they start as a baby then become a child then an adolescent then an manipular and finally a member of a certain caste depends on the families lineage and brevet mutations host is given; they can in theory live forever but can die though war or accidents such as falling or suffocating. But thank you for pointing this out.

Cheers! That’s my theory, too. It’s more of a passive geas than an actual Didact in Jon’s head. That said, Jon did hear the Didact in his head during Halo 4 (Cortana didn’t hear him even though Jon did, which has to mean something). But that was the UrDidact, so…

The Ur-Didact being the original would thus have the same memories as Iso-Chief and Master Chief, and have the smae experience Bornstellar had before meeting the Ur-Didact in his Cryptum on Erde-Tyrene. Perhaps with Act 1 Theory Master Chief could use the memories to find a weakness to the Ur-Didact?

Didact has Librarian as John has luck. Forerunner trilogy, in particular one book (can’t remember which) states that luck is the way Librarian acts on people, probably john’s luck is a consequence of librarian’s geas and planning.

I didn’t mean she was created using the artifact, just helped with the process. The Forerunner artifact underneath Sword Base has information that lead her to the Halo Array, Installation 04A. I believe, after making a blind slip space jump to escape Reach and uphold the Cole Protocol, she states that her manoeuvrings options were limited… maybe I am reading too much into it but it seems like a good enough theory for her fragment to use forerunner information, maybe misinterpreted as weapon to fight the covenant initially?

Hmmm didn’t know that exactly, thank you. So my hypothesis may yet be correct… we shall see in 2014?

You are right, the information gained from the Sword Base site helped locate Alpha Halo, as well as the coordinates found on the rock on Sigma Octanus IV.

However, in your OP you stated that,
“Cortana is being finalized in her making process using forerunner artifact to finish her.”
I was merely correcting you on that point.
She was already a complete AI at the time, she was only present to data mine for Halsey.

I thank you for pointing this out. I’ll try to change it.

Will be posting Act 2 (Proditionis) after work…
