Halo 5: Placement / Ranking Fail

Hey Spartans!
So my friend and I just finished our placement matches for the new season and it somehow turned out not the way I expected. Since we couldn’t come up with any explanation I’m asking you!

After 10 finished games (50.0 win percentage):

  • **Player 1:**128 kills; 107 deaths; 44 assists; KDA: 3.5 [ranked at Diamond 2]

  • **Player 2:**108 kills; 89 deaths; 46 assists; KDA: 3.4 [ranked at Gold 5]

All of the games were played together!

How is such a huge difference in rank possible and what kind of black magic is behind it??

As I understand it, previous ranks factor in to the determinations- its not truly a blank slate at the start of the season. So I imagine the 2 players were ranked differently in previous seasons.

The ways of the ranking system are indeed mysterious. Better you shouldn’t think about it too hard or too long - it’s driven lesser people to madness.

Your ranking is mostly determined by your rank last season. It makes placement matches kinda redundant in my opinion.

As everyone has already said, it seems like previous placement ranks factor in to your current rank. Either way I’d be happy with that rank with 5 wins/5 losses lol.

We were indeed.
Both of us had not the greatest games last season, but I did especially bad. In the end my friend got Diamond 1 and I got Gold 6??*(Gold 5 this season)*So what is even more surprising is that despite the fact that we played almost identically this season the difference in rank grew even larger!

i believe this ranking season will not take you to the very top as its intended to “rank up” for you to play more often and reach higher leagues.
