The magnum is widely different in every game. What do we want for halo 5?

If we’re talking about just the magnum, I’d want something like the Halo 4 magnum with a less spread so it’s notably useful.
A pistol that has more uses then just “back up”
Halo CE pistol anyone
kidding. The Halo 4 pistol was pretty good to me. Pistols really are made to be a side weapon and as long as it functions like that, I’m happy.
I want the H5G pistol to be at it’s best when it’s compensating for close range rifles like the AR. This was a great thing about Halo 4’s weapon selection.
Being able to use the Magnum for long range and the AR for close range was something I just loved and I absolutely want to see more of it.
In Halo 5 if we had combos like the DMR for long range and SMG for close range or the SR for close range and the Needle pistol for long range or the BR for medium range and the PP as an enemy weakener that will help the BR keep up with the kill times of the close and long range rifles outside of medium range that would be just delightful.
It’s hard to go wrong with the Halo 4 M6H. It was powerful enough to hold it’s own in most firefights but fast enough to serve as an effective sidearm. It is the ideal M6 for Halo.
I liked the Halo:Reach Magnum best… well, second best; the Halo:CE Pistol was of course the greatest of all the Halo games.
The Halo 4 version was crap; gameplay-wise, I don’t think it was any different from the Halo:Reach version, but it looked ugly and the sound effects were lousy.
Halo 4 pistol was ok.
I want a magnum that has its own niche. Something that makes it worth picking up over another weapon.
The Halo 4 magnum was worthless, the H2/H3 variants were only useful dual wielded, and the Reach variant was underwhelming. The ODST automag has been the only pistol in the series to feel like a pistol while still having powerful and unique qualities.(CE Magnum was kind of its own thing).
‘Secondaries’ have no business in Halo, there is absolutely no reason why the magnum should be the only weapon in the game designed to be terrible. The ‘realism’ argument is completely silly when we have so called assault rifles with the effective range of a slingshot. They are not even required for loadouts since we could just as easily do a ‘pick two’ system along the lines of Black Ops 2.
As far as solutions to the problem go:
1.) Just bring the ODST automag back without a suppressor, seriously the thing is amazing.
or
2.) Make it a close range hand cannon(essentially buffed versions of the H2 or H3 magnums.
Something similar to the Halo 2 magnum. Low damage, fast firing, low/no recoil/spread and semi-automatic.
Make the Halo 4 pistol have better, stronger, sound effects, and I would like it
I don’t use the pistol much in matchmaking, but in campaign, I love it. I love limiting myself to it on purpose to see how far I can go with just the pistol.
That said, I’m pretty well versed in which gun has the most to offer. So here I go:
Combat Evolved: It’s basically a fully automatic DMR. It’s beyond realistic in the campaign; I mean, if that gun is actually considered canon (not “a cannon” which is pretty much what it is), you’d think they’d mount it on Warthogs.
Halo 2: This magnum is surprisingly effective against the flood and for head shots. large clip size, rapid rate of fire. But that’s it.
ODST: It’s the same model as the Halo 2 counterpart; great for head shots
Halo 3: Inaccurate compared to its predecessors, horrible range, slow rate of fire, but powerful.
Halo Reach: Decently balanced, the first Halo magnum powerful enough to stand on its own since CE, but also be realistic as a side arm. This is probably what the CE magnum should have been. I think the bloom is too wide, though. I really like the Reach magnum.
Halo 4: This magnum is my personal favorite. They reduced the bloom from what Reach had, gave it a smokin’ rate of fire and incredible range. It’s powerful enough that I can play through the mission “Dawn” on Heroic using nothing but the magnum and do just fine. The bloom keeps it down in multiplayer, though it’s not useless if in the right hands (not mine). It’s the perfectest yet.
I’m not opposed to bloom, especially not in the campaign, but I think that in matchmaking it should either be minimal or nonexistent. Although I doubt they’d want to design two different functioning magnums.
I like H4 pistol, but it would be awesome to add some rounds to the clip.
The lol reach pistol served its niche nicely. The magnum in that game was a solid weapon to fight with off spawn, but was outclassed by the dmr. That’s how the Halo 5 magnum should be, imo. The Halo 4 pistol is too unreliable, as your best bet for using it was to spam and hope you get a kill.

First of all… As cool as the ODST automag was with its high fire rate and smart scope, its damage output paled in comparison to Halo 4’s magnum
Secondly, H2/H3 magnums were COMPLETELY useless, even dual wielding and firing each gun in an alternating pattern, the guns fire rate was slow as crap and the damage output was even worse, the only use for the magnum was to EMP first then headshot with it.
I think the Halo CE 4 shot headshot with moderate fire rate. The halo Reach 5 Shot headshot with a slightly faster fire rate, or the 6 Shot headshot with the second fastest fire rate in the series would all be acceptable
The If you were using the Automag on normal in ODST, unless you were head-shooting jackals or grunts, it took most of the clip to down shields and kill with all head shots. The only redeeming factor of this weapon was its fire rate was actually as fast (or maybe faster) than the carbine’s, and the smart scope.
Dont get me wrong though, I love the gun. But it took more shots to kill than Vanilla Halo 4 Carbine. And I can speak with some authority that Vanilla H4 carbine SUCKED. the only way you could kill anything with that 8-shot-headshot-kill Atrocity is to get the drop on an enemy and get multiple shots in edgewise. before he came down on you with god finger DMR
Halo 4 magnum was the best for me, Reach was k, 3 was yuck. CE was GODMODE.
Halo 4 Magnum was perfect in my eyes.
The Boltshot can be the Halo 2/ODST-esque Magnum. (While obviously getting rid of the secondary function…) Just make it around 7sk, and give it 12 bullets in a mag, and boom, Halo 2/ODST-esque Magnum.

Or you could just nerf it slightly so its the equivalent of the mauler (No one-shot kill). It would basically be a plasma pistol with better semi-auto and head shots with a much shorter range EMP that doesn’t stun vehicles. i think that would be a fair trade off.
As for the magnum, I think a cross between 4 and Reach. the Reach magnum felt like a beast, But the halo 4 magnum is also quite effective. I like it when the magnum functions as a poor man’s DMR with shorter range and a slightly longer kill time. it acts as an effective sidearm (finishing off a weakened target in 1-2 shots) while also having the capability to let you defend yourself against a DMR or BR wielder as long as you are more accurate than him.

-Halo 4’s Magnum was perfect.

Secondaries have no business in Halo? Says you. Secondaries function perfect as delivering second chances and by allowing people to (if they have enough skill) survive or take retribution in areas where they should be rightfully punished with death.
-
The ODST automag was garbage against anything that was shielded and anything that wasn’t a headshot bounced off like BB. The Automag was Halo 2’s trash pistol with Halo CE’s scope. Nothing unique in terms of mechanics and certainty nothing powerful, it was just a badass pistol to look at.
-
Halo CE’s Magnum was only as powerful as is was to compensate for the severe lack of other precision weapons, with the sniper rifle being the only other one lmao. Halo CE’s Magnum wasn’t a pistol, it was basically a rifle and don’t you forget it. Now that we have 4 non-power precision weapons, the Magnum no longer needs to fill in the gap and can function closer to an actual pistol.
Something like h4’s. It serves good as a sidearm for me, maybe reducing the bloom just a little.
