Theory 1: Halo 5 is a baby tree. It’s a very unhealthy tree so 343 needs time to let it grow. How do they accomplish this? By letting the roots deep in to the soil with Halo 5: ODST.
Theory 2: Halo 5, our little baby tree, also needs some sunlight. Halo Wars 2 involves a Halo Ring located on the Ark. My theory is that this may be a new Halo ring Cortana is trying to build for herself.
Theory 3: Now that sunlight has been shun on to Halo 5, via Halo Wars 2, it’s time to pour water over the roots. Halo 6 will involve the Halo Ring that was shown in Halo Wars 2.
Summary: Halo 5: ODST will establish the foundation for Halo 5’s new story. Halo Wars 2 will be the link between Halo 5 and Halo 6 with a Halo Ring.
While this is an interesting theory and whatnot, I think that making Halo Wars 2 essential to understanding the plot of Halo 6 would be an absolutely terrible idea. Just like Halo Wars 1, it’s no secret that not all Halo fans are going to jump onto the sequel. It could be that they don’t like RTS games on consoles, or RTS games in general. It could be that they were disappointed with the beta, or even other reason.
No matter the case, spinoff games should not be essential to understanding the plot. Just like how reading the novels should not be necessary either, which was the biggest downfall of Halo 4 and, to a lesser extent, Halo 5.
I think halo 5 story should of played out like halo 3 ODST as Locke hunting down the chief and every time he finds information on him we play as chief. I wouldn’t of put the campaign down. I would of played it in one sitting on legendary like I did with ODST story. Instead I played a couple missions got bored played online then eventually completed it on normal just to get it out the way and see the full story rather than judge the story but not finish it.

Just let that terrible thing that happened die in the past where it belongs. My opinion.

It seems like you’ve PLANTED this theory pretty well in the forums, but I don’t see it ROOTED in much truth

I think you mixed that up. Halo 4 was easily understandable without outside media but Halo 5 on the other hand relied on it heavily.

Halo wars 2 will take place after halo 5 and im sure in the trailer we can see a halo ring in the center of the ark…lol

Halo Wars 2’s beta had 1.2 accumulated hours over nine days. That’s a Beta.
I want to believe that. It would make sense if they release late this year with surprise announcement on Gamescom by Halo Wars 2 being delayed to 2017.

That was actually 343’s original idea but then Microsoft changed it.
