Halo 5 not finished? Marketing strategy by 343i?

It feels like Halo 5 was not finished at launch. Forge was gone and so was BTB, Infection, Oddball and other gamemodes. Why? Well, it was not ready yet. They didn’t finish on time so that is why the dlc is free. It’s just content that was supposed to be in the game to start. Now onto the shady marketing tactic. 343i has no doubt finished Oddball, Infection and what-not. It’s not that difficult because they can use mechanics from other game modes. For example, Assault is just a reskin of CTF with a timer at the end. 343i could do this in no time. So, why is it not out yet? It’s because 343i want to spread out content to increase the game’s lifespan. Feel free to discuss and share your own ideas.

Alex, I’ll take “Generic Game Criticisms That Don’t Really Apply Here” for $500.

Hmm…this question’s a bit tough. I’ll take the “Ask the Audience” lifeline.

Hanlon’s razor, OP. Not telling us that such basic gametypes as oddball wouldn’t return for the first time in a decade and a half was a lie of omission, no doubt, but I don’t believe it was part of a marketing strategy in the traditional sense. I think the simpler and more probable answer is that they couldn’t get the job done in time but MS needed Halo 5 to come out in time for the holiday sales and before it had to compete with Fallout/CoD/Battlefront/fill in your own blank.

It ultimately comes down to 343 not getting the job done in time either way, but even I’m not cynical enough to believe that stripping features and “giving” them back to us was part of their plan.
