Hi everyone, I just purchased a copy of Halo 5 and I was really looking forward to finally getting around to playing it. I downloaded it to my Xbox One and downloaded the massive update as well. When I went to play the campaign the first cutscene worked perfectly fine but every bit of dialogue during gameplay or in the cutscene afterwards wouldn’t work.
In case it matters, I have the original Xbox One, not the Xbox One X
Here is what I’ve tried:
- My Xbox One’s audio output is Stereo Uncompressed (which is what it should be).
- The audio settings in-game are set to 10 for voice-over volume, subtitles are on, output is through speakers and not headphones.
- I have tried changing my language settings to different languages, rebooting and restarting Halo 5, I never got any language file update. I set it back to my native English, rebooted the console and restarted the game, I never got any language file updates.
This is extremely disappointing and I don’t think I’ve ever even heard of a blunder this big in triple A gaming. I’ve exhausted every option I’ve come across and nothing has worked. I’m wondering if anyone else has had this issue and found a way to get the audio to work correctly.
I have found a solution that worked for Me!
I had tried all the solutions that Google offered me, like changing my language and region, clearing the cache and restarting. But alas that did not work.
What DID work was uninstalling the game 
Changing my region and language to United States and United States English.
At which point I installed halo 5 WITHOUT online patches, so just the disc.
I tried playing the game offline which didn’t work, but after updating the game, everything seemed like it should, sound and all.
Even after changing my language and region back !
TLDR : uninstalled the game , reinstalled the game with United States English as language and region, game seemed to work at this point.
