Halo 5: No skill needed

Halo is made to empower noobs, the skill gap has nearly vanished because anyone in the game can use an SMG or AR and map positioning is nearly irrelevant because double-teaming with ARs beats any skilled player AND that person can’t use jumps or hiding places to espcape. The game encourages chasing by not allowing shields to charge while sprinting, allowing people to hunt you down while you can’t run away without staying shield-less. 343 needs to ditch sprint as it has killed the game. We need to remember that Halo is like a game of chess, it’s all about how you are set up and also your personal skill. Rushing people and chasing takes no skill whatsoever. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had 2 people sprint up to me and mow me down with assault rifles. How on earth am I supposed to escape if they can chase me without my shields recharging (while I’m sprinting away.) Back in the most successful games, everyone was at the same speed and the games flowed wonderfully, you could hide behind cover if needed and if you rushed out in the open you wouldn’t be cross-mapped by an AR, usually about 2 people would be shooting at you with a BR because that weapon was made for sitting at distances AND making sure you could hit your shots. 343 needs to get rid of sprint and nerf the assault weapons by getting rid of ADS. Bring back the H3 AR and the H2A SMG to give an actual chance to anyone. The point of an assault rifle in Halo is to be for close range fights, and the BR is to be used at distances. Halo needs to keep weapons slightly unbalanced because what’s the point of a BR if an AR can beat you at mid-to-long range. BEFORE YOU GO BERSERK, 343 did a very nice job with the sniper rifle and the ranking system is superb compared to any other Halo in my opinion. I like the new abilities like ground pound, but clamber may need some tweaking. I also enjoy the way they implemented power weapon control and the whole team-effort style is definitely the right direction for a game that is trying to go big in eSports. I just think that 343 should listen to veteran players and the competitive community because eSports and MLG are what have made FPS what it is today

You can’t go lone wolf in matches anymore, what’s the problem? Team slayer.

The problem is that the skill gap is lowered. People didn’t lone wolf before either, It was just that the old skill gap was that high many good players could lonewolf entire teams, but when they hit their evel cap they had to team with other players. Now you almost have to team up from the start.

OP you are doing something very wrong if you are losing fights to an AR at mid-long with your BR. You can’t play this game the same as the old halos and think you can rush an AR user and expect to win a close quarters fight with a BR. I would say the skill gap right now is probably the highest its ever been. People just have to adjust their tactics.

Are you high? This game has the largest skill gap since Halo 3. Your probably mad because your getting destroyed.

I dunno, I come from Halo CE being my favorite (and also the MP I happen to have the most success in).

And, in all honesty, this game is a very smooth transition from CE. And according to the Halo purists, Halo CE is the one the requires the most skill.

Maybe you should try to get better. Especially if you are losing to an AR whilst rocking a BR.

When I have a full team gunning me down at once I don’t even take it as a death

You must be Champ #1 in every playlist then … and all of the top 200 people in all of the playlists must have AR as their top weapon …

There are many things to criticize about H5, but the skill gap is simply not one of them. People do get kills with AR and SMG, yes, but only in specific close quarters situations, and if you’re fighting those battles with a pistol they’re outsmarting you. All of the weapons can get kills when used properly.

Winning at a high level requires both teamwork and precision. If you think there isn’t a skill gap then you are not playing against good enough people.

This game actually has probably the largest skill gap since Halo 3…and I love it.

Well yeah, that’s a given. But it doesn’t say much. 3 had the smallest skill gap of the original trilogy.

What? You’re mad that a full team gunned you down? I’m confused

This game may have a higher skill ceiling, but it’s also shaken the room up. I used to rule at Halo but now I’m getting destroyed by people who I really don’t think are very good. The skills acquired in previous games are mostly irrelevant now, not complaining, games need to evolve.

Exactly what I was thinking. This game is very hard to do well in.

I find it interesting that people are finding a skill gap in this game. I don’t necessarily disagree with their opinion, but my definition of skill gap doesn’t really translate to “Everyone who uses a BR is skilled”, because a BR is most certainly not a skill weapon anymore with how it is in this game, and almost everyone and their dogs mastered the BR in this game.

One of Halo’s best players disagrees with you, OP.

Which Halo 3 did you play…?
I played Halo 3 competitively for a little while and all I remember is it being comparable to Halo 2 in regards to skill gap.
I miss the days of booting up a new account to boost some kid to a 50 in 16 games. Those first 10 games or so it would be 25-5 or less hahaha.

Kind-of tired of the whole “Sprint” arguement. If they didn’t do sprint they’d be left behind by other games that are faster paced. You have to evolve with the times. The movement system in Halo 5 is pretty decent. They aren’t going to tailor their game completely to what maybe 10% of the whole Halo fanbase wants. For every hardcore MLG competitive player that doesn’t want sprint, there’s probably 5-10 people who don’t care either way & that’s the general audience they have to sell to. It’s either evolve or not be around anymore to make a game at all if you get left behind. I’m not saying one is right or wrong, but I’m saying to stay meaningful in the FPS market they have to compete with what other games are doing. I honestly can’t imagine not having Sprint anymore. I went back & played Master Chief Collection the other day as Halo 2 is my favorite FPS of all time basically, but it did feel super slow.

I don’t agree with the whole, “Let’s nerf all the other guns again,” arguement either. That’s one of the best things about Halo 5, that you can pick up almost any gun & be effective. We’ve had 10 years of nothing but BR’s, Snipers, & Rockets. I’m so glad they finally had the nuts to up the other guns so everything felt useful. The only thing I don’t agree with is I don’t think the BR’s should have 4x-6x scopes, I think that should be reserved for the DMR’s.

I dont see how halo 5 has no skill required.

As for the ar argument, yeah you have to learn to use that as well. Even when pretty much point blank I do t hold the trigger down. And as long as I dont spray and prey and use it strategically can sometimes easily out ar a br or pistol user. Had to learn. Thats a skill and now I dont have to really think, just react.

Honestly almost prefer using my ar maybe 60% of the time in team slayer matches over pistol or br or whatever

With an AR as the spawn weapon and with the amount of power weapons, weapons that track players, and bullet magnetism, you are correct.

The br shouldn’t win the close engagements and Practicing your Ar to melee timing takes plenty of skill
