Halo: 5 Needs more Vehicular Combat

Halo: 5’s warzone is lacking in vehicular combat, when a vehicle is used it’s used against a boss than the team with that vehicle wipes out the other team because no-one uses vehicles against vehicles. This is very sad because when I play reach, everyone goes for the banshee, falcon, wraith, scorpion, revenant, warthog, ghost, and mongoose. What happened to vehicular combat in Halo?Remember the feeling of mowing down ground troops and getting into combat with an enemy tank?I don’t play Halo 5 as much as I do reach and thats pathetic.343i I hope you read this because I miss vehicular combat.

The increased mobility of Spartans (making boarding easier) combined with non-regenerating vehicle health have effectively hurt many vehicles. I’m not sure if they fixed it, but you also can’t use your tank turret to shoot off a boarder on your tank like in previous games (Edit: They didn’t fix it.) PLUS, vehicles have weak spots now where even small arms fire deals noticeable damage surprisingly quickly.

It’s not that there isn’t vehicular combat, but that using vehicles against players is very risky, especially using heavier vehicles against competent players who can board you quite quickly. Plus vehicles don’t regenerate health, so vehicles without shields gradually get weaker, which combined with increased weapon accuracy and weak spots makes them feel squishier than before. It’s much easier to outfox and AI and make a vehicle last forever than the enemy team which will probably focus fire and actually use cover better.

Unfortunately, it’s still not possible to kill a boarder using splash damage from the main cannon. Teammates can shoot them off, but you yourself are unable to do anything about it.

That’s the problem with having to navigate a huge, clunky menu before spawning to select your equipment… and partially why Warzone sucks.

If people just showed 343 that BTB was the way to go for large-scale casual play, we might not have Warzone going forward in the series, but people had to go out and purchase meaningless REQ packs and validate 343’s business model.

BTB is better than Warzone in every way, and it’s a traditional Halo mainstay. Vehicles spawn on map and are immediately and readily accessible, thus vehicle combat is more of a factor. It’s just a better gameplay model.

Possible solution.

Halo 5 was made to be an arena shooter, vehicles were an after thought. they only work well enough in the campaign.

The whole deal with no splash damage is just a bunch of barnacles, I don’t know who in there right mind skipped over that oversight, it’s really pissed a lot of people off.

Vehicles need love, there’s just to meny counters to them all in the fear that there going to be op…

  • Plasma pistol - Spartan laser - Easy Bording - Vehicles take more damage to small arms fire - No regenerating health - STUPID wonky dumb bouncy ball tires for wheels… - Dosn’t eject you when you flip… this is perhaps the most annoying… - Small crowded maps. The only good vehicles are the ultras and oni’s, even then they are to hard to get and VERY upseting to lose (especially to a freaking glitch).

Give us a 4v4 Social Slayer playlist with a larger map rotation including some large enough to feature vehicles.

The Phaeton was a brand new addition into Halo 5, which many (myself included) were pretty excited for…

And…

Nobody gets to use it. The Phaeton takes eternities to unlock, so only a select few have access to it, and there are none on BTB maps either. I am currently working on a BTB forge map that will center around a Phaeton located right in the middle. It will not be OP, as the map is indoors and the higher up the Phaeton goes, the more the movement is restricted, as the room tapers off to a point. I have the hops of getting this map eventually noticed and added into the BTB playlist.

Any good names for a Forerunner themed map set inside of a large version of Valhalla/Ragnarok’s bases on a very cold isolated point? It currently goes by “BTB Phaeton map”, which really isn’t going to cut it. I was thinking Frostbite.

I also really like Warthog duels and wish they happened more when playing Warzone. They are so much fun! I am a great driver, but I am awful with the turret.

You can thank camos, the radar combined with Sprint and SAs. All it takes is a simple run sprint and thrust to be boarded. The tank is too slow for these Abilities.

Also, we really haven’t had large open spaces for vehicles since reach. Sure Warzone is big, but Infantry spaces are so close to the Vehicular roadways. Feels like everything in this game works against the Tank.

Halo has been around a lot longer than esports, only a few play in esports, 4v4 competitive matches need to have vehiclesome, especially warthogs. That’s the essence of Halo…it always has been. I’m one of the best warthog drivers in the world, but because I’m not the best in the world with BR’s I can’t be part of the esports scene of Halo? BS. I have been playing halo since 2001 and don’t really care if people think vehicles are unbalanced in 4v4 competitive, because they are not, there was and is always a counter. 4vr needs vehicles. NOW. Otherwise 343 and even Bungle was doing it, they are betraying the core fundamentals of Halo game play, which always had vehicles in the name of some kid that cries about 4v4 being “just for shooters and balanced for esports” on reddit.

Please don’t necropost a month old dead thread thanks. Check the date of the last post before you post.
