Halo 5 is lacking what made Halo Reach/ Halo 4 so much fun to play. Halo 5 needs more playlists and gametypes. There is no infection, oddball, grifball, one bomb, or action sack. Halo 4 was great at having so many action sack gametypes and a variety of playlists. 343 was too focused on getting back to competitive gaming that they missed what kept the true Halo fans around since Bungie left. Yes, Halo 4 had issues that took it out of MLG/ esports, but once weapon balancing came, that game was one of the best Halo’s that I’ve played. The Halo MCC struggles didn’t help losing fans and Halo 5 lacking in launch playlists and still lacking in it still isn’t helping. Don’t get me wrong, Halo 5 plays smooth and I play it plenty, but it’s still missing so much.
We already know this and are aware that ball gamemodes are coming next update, infection is to follow

True Fans =/= Casual fans.
Don’t pretend that competitive players aren’t fans, either. Most of them left because the competitive side of the community was limited to Arena in Reach. (And that was a laughable, insulting excuse for one) Nonwithstanding that the abiltiies that Halo 4 and Reach both championed were BS enough to turn them away. (Armor Lock defying Plasma Grenades particularly comes to mind as a sore point)
Of course, people still liked it regardless. Despite that it epitomized the concept of a crutch. (Halo 5 is different in the way that most of these abilities can be combated with enough know-how, and there’s no variables like spawning with different abilities that might be otherwise hard to discern)
But I do agree that there needs to be more game modes and playlists. Just don’t assume that these two don’t ever overlap. That said, I’d rather them take their time and blow the hatch open on customization than to leave out a key, important option in a very popular social mode at launch.
If you don’t know what I mean, I’m speaking in terms with Bungie basically launching Infection without Alpha Zombies. Which was a huge blunder. Fat Kid was never the same. Flood is at least acceptable in the way that it was more of a deviation of infection rather than infection itself.
Arena wasn’t a smart thing that Bungie did. They should of followed what they did with Halo 3 as far as ranked and social playlists. It seemed cool in theory but lacked severely. You are definitely right when it comes to armor lock. It was a cool concept and in some cases when having a ghost try and splatter you it came in handy. Once Bungie left for Destiny and 343 took over Reach and had that “title update” where there was barely any bloom on the DMR and once you actually got stuck by a plasma and you went into armor lock, that wouldn’t save you. Once 343 did that, Reach got better.
I agree with you on the Alpha Zombies. They just should of left it and brought in other infection gametypes from Halo 3 like Spooky House(which I miss), Save One Bullet, etc. Halo 4 Flood gametype was pretty fun. I did like their spin on infection.
On Halo 4, 343 did try and do ranking placement with CSR in every gametype, which I liked. I do understand what 343 was doing by going back to the roots of Halo 2/3 and I’m fine with it. We just need more playlists, which I know we will get. There was just so many options on Halo 4 and I did like the customizable load outs. One thing that I am happy about as a Halo fan, every game is different and doesn’t seem to repeat itself with how it looks and plays like COD.
Just make Doubles permanent already! But yeah wish they’d make gametypes such as KOTH/3 flag etc alongside oddball and create a Team Objective playlist with them plus the existing CTF and SH. More social playlists with game types such as multi team would be cool too.
The bottom line is clear; Halo 5 is severely lacking in player choice when it comes to choosing a playlist.
Needs infection
ACTION SACK!
