I enjoyed SWAT greatly in Halo Reach. In fact it quickly became my favorite playlist when I started playing it. But when I came to Halo 4 I found myself only playing Big Team Battle, Capture the Flag, and occasionally Team Slayer. So what happened? There were not good maps to play SWAT on in my opinion. Everyone dogs on Reach, like all the time. But it was one of my favorites. Why? It had great maps. It really did. Especially for SWAT. Countdown, Reflection, Sword Base, and even Asylum worked wonderfully for SWAT. It made the playlist really fun, I only enjoyed playing SWAT in Reach honestly. The other games lacked maps that were good for it. Heck the only thing Zealot seemed good for was SWAT. Powerhouse worked good for SWAT too. Reach had tons of good SWAT maps. And that’s what Halo 5 needs. Honestly I’m hoping for a good remake of Relfection, Sword Base, or Countdown.
I’m a fellow SWAT lover but I disagree, the best maps for it were on Halo 2 & a few from H3. I loved playing on High Ground.
Give me those maps again and a few new ones and I’m happy.

SWAT on High Ground? Hm strange taste.
I agree in a way though, wasn’t just reach with good SWAT maps
even though OP never once stated this
Maps from halo 3 like the pit, construct, foundry, narrows all worked well, the maps you stated from reach worked even better than the ones i said imo. (Notice 7/10 of these maps are symmetrical)
Then yes with h4 the only maps i like SWAT on is haven and adrift, which are actually better than a couple i mentioned, so it goes to show if they targeted making a couple more maps focusing on SWAT they could have made some pretty good ones!
RANTAlso it might just be me but its not just the maps that are a problem, whats with these new swat variants options? If i search for SWAT i just want a good old fashioned game of SWAT not some stupid objective game! If i wanted to play objectives i would have searched for them instead!
IMHO Reach had the best SWAT maps, with Halo 3 a coming in at 1A. Halo 4 maps are just… bad. Bad for a lot of playlists.
If H5G can take a cue from any other Halo, even Reach (which I feel created admirable XL big maps for the Invasion format) then they’ll be fine. Just don’t look to H4’s design/layout philosophy, please.
When it comes to SWAT maps I like a lot of sight lines and paths between areas. A few of my favourites are: Countdown, Shutout, Panic Station, and Reflection. I think Reach’s Kingdom would have been a good SWAT map, but unfortunately I never got to try it out. Oh yeah I almost forgot Temple from Reach, that was a great SWAT map.

I never got to play Halo 2 online… I didn’t have live then. But I did say Reflection was a really great map for Swat and we all know that was a re-skinned remake of Ivory Tower. I did play Halo 2 offline split screen multiplayer. But I liked a few on Halo 3 for Swat. But Swat wasn’t my thing in Halo 3. I didn’t really get into Swat until Halo Reach.

Yup, but I just loved that map overall. I loved playing any gametype on it.</mark>

I agree with the OP. Reach had a thousandfold better maps than Halo 4. Though admittedly, between the choices of maps that i had, Countdown and Sword Base were among my favourites. I hated Broadwalk though, with a passion. Reflection, i didn’t find all that great, either.

I hated Boardwalk too!!! I some good games on it every now and then but I still hated it. But I did like Reflection. A lot. My favorite maps from Reach (Which would all make it on to a top 10 map list from all the Halos if I were to make one) are Countdown, Reflection, and Sword Base.
SWAT fan here, but it isn’t that bad in H4. It basically is the playlist you can find me in most of the time. But yes, Reach had more maps that fit the gametype.
I still however am hoping for the day Invasion returns with a SWAT spin off…Imagine being able to Forge maps where a team spawns inside a building, another outside of it and the goal is is to either hold out in the building or to reach and destroy a goal inside it.
3 stages, very fast paced, 1 life per round, BR/Silenced Pistol/Silenced SMG only (make that work somehow please!).
Stage 1: Warthog Rush, goal: blow up sealed entrance
Stage 2: Clear main hall, goal: kill other team, blow up next door.
Stage 3: Destroy goal.
That would be a pretty awesome SWAT/Invasion spin off if you ask me. Fast paced, intense games and it would give SWAT a more feasible goal than CTF does.
One can only dream…
I enjoy swat in halo 4 and reach
