TL;DR: There needs to be local split-screen in Halo 5. 2 player split-screen in Campaign/Firefight/Spartan Ops, 4 player split-screen in Custom Games/Big Team Battle/Team Slayer/Warzone/etc. Drop frame rate, degrade graphics, lower resolution, do whatever is necessary to get split-screen working.
343 has hinted that there will be no splitscreen in Halo 5. This is unacceptable. Halo without splitscreen would be heresy of the highest degree, devaluing one of the crucial things that has made the series so great. halo 5: Guardians MUST has local splitscreen. Just like Halo 4, there should be 2 player splitscreen in Campaign, Firefight (I know, it’s from Halo: Reach, but I want Firefight in Halo 5), and Spartan Ops. There should be 4 player splitscreen for Custom Games (there NEEDS to be splitscreen because custom games are way more fun together with friends over), Big Team Battle, Team Slayer, Team Snipers, Capture the Flag, etc. Local custom games and the majority of online matchmaking modes MUST have 4 player splitscreen. Not all modes have to have 4 player splitscreen, though. Exceptions would be (these were 4 player splitscreen exceptions in Halo 4) Grifball and Free for All. Warzone could have 2 player splitscreen, but 4 player splitscreen would be even better. There has to be splitscreen in Halo 5, at the very least there has to be 4 player splitscreen in in Custom Games.
Now I realize this might now be possible. Halo 5 is only 3 months from release. But I at least have to try and get 343 to put splitscreen in. FPS Halo has ALWAYS had local splitscreen, and for Halo 5 to not have that would be the death of such a fun and cherished feature. Playing Halo with friends is one of the things that makes Halo so great. I have such fond memories of playing 4 player splitscreen Big Team Battle, and not having that experience in Halo 5 would be heartbreaking. Halo is way more fun when your buddies are sitting right next to you on the couch, everyone looking at the same screen. Playing and talking together through voice chat with everyone in a different room is just not the same. Can you play splitscreen with Battlefield? No. Can you play 4 player splitscreen with CoD: Advanced Warfare? No. Can you play splitscreen with Destiny? No. Can you play 4 player splitscreen with the Master Chief Collection? Yes. Halo’s splitscreen features makes it so much more special than all the other games on the market.
343, please do WHATEVER is possible to put splitscreen into Halo 5. I don’t care about frame rate, I don’t care about graphics, I don’t care about resolution, I don’t care about a “revolutionary online co-op experience.” All I care is that there be splitscreen in Halo 5. Make the frame rate 15 frames per second, make the graphics look like Halo 2, make the resolution 720p, just do everything necessary to get splitscreen in Halo 5. A revolutionary social experience is something Halo has already always had - local splitscreen. No splitscreen takes that experience away, and I’m not giving up splitscreen just to have stable 60 frames per second gameplay across the board. We can have stable 60 FPS gameplay when we’re playing by ourselves.
So you want them to delay the game so they can downgrade everything about the game, just so that occasionally someone can play with a guest(s)… yeah, no thank you. Anyone who suggests reducing the framerate needs to stop talking immediately, especially for a first person shooter.

Enough for the splitscreen threads.
343 delivers an experience based on THEIR vision. Just because all the Halo’s in the past had splitscreen, doesn’t just make it so that every future Halo should have it.
They want to deliver what they feel makes the coolest experience. Halo 5 is built around their vision of looks, feels and Frames per second being high. It’s how they wanna deliver the experience.
It aint gonna change as it would cause a massive delay. Allow the company to deliver their product as they see fit.
This is like a company that makes coffé machines. Suddenly after the button being placed in the same spot for 4 years, it gets changed and customers are all over it, demanding the machine to follow the original line.
Yes, the loss of splitscreen is indeed a sad thing as i always enjoyed playing a Halo launch title with my child hood friend ever since Halo 1 on day one. It won’t be much of a problem having him bring his Xbox over and hook it up to a second monitor… Heck even play at home.
anyone that says a halo shouldnt have splitscreen most likely never own original xbox… most likely they didnt grow up playing it and know the joy of saving money up all year for an xbox… just so they could play splitscreen with theyre friend next door… i dont expect 343 to add the feature but i just want them to know theyre not getting my purchase…

Hey there. I had an orginal xbox. Still remember the name it had, Saucy. Had Halo 2 at launch.
I also do not remember having to save up all year for something. Also if you wont buy a game because it does not have split screen…You must miss out on a ton of games.

I find it amusing that the games you do mention are all up there in age. If you still get enough enjoyment from games 5+ years old, my hat is off to you sir. I enjoy older games as well. But I need new blood in my scheduel to continue to have that fun.
Stop making split screen threads! Use the official one if you must complain.
They haven’t hinted there is no split screen, they have openly stated it. Also the majority of gamers would rather have the frame rate, graphics and a copy of Halo 5 that would actually work. Why should everyone else miss out because of you and a minority?
People play with their friends using mics and have just as much fun. It’s how the majority of people play Halo.As a long time Halo split screen player myself I think people need to simply get over it.
Is it sad that split screen is gone?- Yes
Will it ruin the potential for Halo 5 to be awesome?- No
Is it possible future Halos might have split screen once they can devise a way to have it run properly while still maintaining all the other features?- Perhaps.
They have stated why they couldn’t put split screen in (it wasn’t possible), they don’t do these things just to be jerks. In an ideal world they would make a game that was able to please everyone, unfortunately that is not possible.
Either learn to live with it or don’t buy the game.
I am so tired of the unfounded statement that people who want split screen are the minority.
Prove it or do not say it.

Define minority in this case. To me thats the group of people who without it will not buy the game.
A lot of people, myself included, are sad there is no splitscreen. And yet I am still going to buy the game. It is not the end of my world.
There’s a split screen thread already.
