Halo 5 Multiplayer

This isn’t about whether Halo 5’s multiplayer is better or worse than other games. Or about whether it requires more or less skill than other Halos. This is… really just me talking about my experience with it…

I haven’t played Halo 5 since launch, pretty much. I only recently got back into it because the urge took me for some odd reason. And… I’m not having fun, so far… yet, I keep playing. I couldn’t tell you why.

I’ve never done well in close-quarters maps and have had the most success in shooters when sniping, so I’ve been playing Warzone… exclusively. Instead of slayer or team fights. Mostly because I detest the idea of unloading a full magazine of an Assault Rifle into someone, only to be killed purely because they used a magnum. There’s seldom the opportunity to effectively snipe, anyway, I’ve noticed. None that I’ve seen, anyway.
The maps are so vertically varied and landscaped in such a way that one can never truly find a decent vantage point. This, combined with the various Spartan abilities, makes being a “leroy jenkins berserker” the most ideal style of play. Which is fine… for people who play COD and routinely find themselves hopped up on caffeine, but it’s not great for everyone else. Least of all me, the more methodical, subtle, subversive type.

I such, I find myself having to constantly use Stabilization Jets, Overshields, Shotguns, Suppressors, and Needlers. It seems, from my perspective, that whenever I use a certain weapon or tactic or vehicle, I get trounced faster than I can truly react. But, whenever anyone else uses those same things, they got four-kill streak and I’m left to wonder “where on Earth did that come from?!” or “I shot him in the head when his shields were down- why is he still standing?!”.

Halo 5 Multiplayer is this… confusing cacophony of sound, and color, and visual noise that… It’s as though the advancement in graphics has made everything so… busy, on-screen. Half the time, I can’t tell an enemy’s head from their torso. Or a headshot from a bodyshot. The pace and speed doesn’t help, either. Even at maximum Look Sensitivity, I can’t even turn on the spot fast enough to properly operate when in the clinch and under high-pressure.

This sounds less like the game’s general atmosphere and more undeveloped gamesense. I’d say that if you want to get rid of this weird haziness you’re experiencing, you’ve got to play some Team Slayer. I used to be exactly in your situation, it’s something that comes with the sweat.

Now you say you’re a supporting player. There’s a great need for people like you here considering all the wannabe main slayers here. The problem with you is flatly a lack of versatility. You’re too picky with your conditions. I’d recommend some Super Fiesta if you want to get that checked.

Now lastly, you make a point that CoD style aggressive play is the ideal playstyle. That’s the ideal way to commit assisted suicide. Halo 5 is more aggressive than Classic Halo. But it’s definitely not the game of sprinting and 3 shotting with an AK. Trust me, I’d be an Onyx by now if you could get away with that playstyle.

Well sorry to sound mean but the issue is your inexperience. Of course you are going to get beat a lot in H5 this late in the game. Majority of the players playing now is very experienced players. When it comes to the AR it’s not best to just spray a whole clip in them. It’s best to burst fire it and make sure you are still aiming for the head to get the head shot multiplier for damage. Sure there will still be players that may out shoot you with the pistol depending on the situation but it should help your success with it. H5 was about right weapon for the situation but enough people complained so they have tweeked the weapons a lot since launch. Most want a precision weapon to dominate every situation like the BR used to in previous titles. The pistol is the main utility weapon in arena but that doesn’t mean other weapons can’t necessarily be used. You just really need to know when to use them. As far as sniping goes yeah not to many arena maps are good for it as they mostly cater to CQC. If you watched some of the HCS stuff and see how some of the pros use it may help.

I have to say, I greatly preferred Halo 4’s multiplayer to any other Halo game. Halo 4 was the only game where I actually excelled to any great degree. Mostly because I had the option of using a specific load out. With a load out, I could consistently get reliable practice with a certain weapon or tactic. I’d have to say that I’m one of the few in Halo 4 who managed to use the Carbine to any great effect. Plasma Pistol, Mobility, Ammo, Carbine, and Active Camo were the things that I learned to use with the most returns.

Halo 4 was the only game where I could consistently get kill-streaks as high as six every match…

Halo REACH was only slightly better.

I’m not sure if that makes me a shoddy player.

Is this bait? This is very clever bait.

It doesn’t make you shoddy, but it does make you inflexible. I’d say the reason you did well in H4 is, like you said, you are a supporting player. H4 had big open maps with a lot of good vantage points, while H5 pits you in a smaller map where you are forced to be resourceful. Your playstyle seems to be sniping and long range, which is good in WZ but won’t keep you alive in Arena. You also seem to be a fan of specialization if you liked loadouts. In H5, your skill has to be as good as possible in every aspect. You need to shake off your stealthy playstyle, because you don’t get good ways to hide in H5. Only temporary solutions and crannies.
