ive wanted a healthy highly populated multiplayer experience since the end days of halo 3 and that is not COD. I feel like the gaming community is very diverse and it saddens me. Does anyone legitimately think halo 5 will be like halo 3 (in terms of population), without reference to past population of halo games, it’s irrelevant now because it’s a different time with a different console and with different new people.

Not like Halo 3’s, but better than everything else. The shooters coming out this year dont look as compelling as before.
As long as they have a good matchmaking playlist it’ll be fine. I know a lot of people will be focused on Destiny for a while though.
yes it will be successful imo just like reach’s MP that was amazing
The population wont ever be as high as H3 ever. However, it could do fairly well as long as the launch is successful. Many have a bad taste in their mouth from TMCC and are waiting on the sideline to see how well this game launches. Otherwise I am not going through TMCC frustration all over again with H5. I just hope the co-op campaign and Warzone are working the way they should. If it launches really well with hardly any problems then I will pick it up a few days or a week later.
They really should have had a beta for Warzone.
I think the beta really helped 343 advertise what their vision for MP was and a lot of people like the fact that they have a company that will actually listen to them. So yes, i see a very large halo 5 population for the foreseeable future after launch. Especially with 15 more maps coming for free throughout the year.
Well in my honest opinion from what I played in the Beta, the gameplay was top notch. Highly addictive and weapons were very balanced. However, I don’t really think Halo 5 could maintain the population counts well into 2 years like Halo 3 was capable of doing.
Halo 3’s release couldn’t have been anymore perfect. It was around that time that CoD was just starting to get really popular among the gamer community so there were still a lot of players interested in Halo’s multiplayer after Halo 2’s success. Plus, Halo 3 was released quite early in the 360’s lifespan. A little under 2 years after the release of the 360 in fact so when Halo fans found out that a new Halo game was coming to the next gen console, it was a pretty huge deal during that time.
Realistically, for a game that has had a downwards trend for the last two games, on new hardware with still a relatively small user base, I wouldn’t hold my breath.

I agree with everything you said. H3 was and will probably always be the peak of Halo. There are simply way too many different FPS and free games out now for Halo to contain a population anywhere near H3. Back when H3 was released, there really wasn’t much at all for competition. That’s why H3 remained the top played xboxlive game for a very long time. Dang near an entire year. The only other competition was COD. Plus there are still a lot of users on the 360 that have not converted to the X1 yet. We wont even get into how badly TMCC effected the people that used to love Halo.
So it is next to impossible H5 or any Halo game will ever hit Halo 3s population. Ever.

Well it is possible still for a Halo game to hit peak population counts right on release day. If 343i play their cards right getting the right amount of advertising and marketing their product through sources such as Doritos, Mountain Dew, Slurpee’s from 7/11, etc. Then we MIGHT be able to hit a population similar to Halo 3’s on release.
The question about whether or not Halo 5 is able to maintain those population numbers is yet to be seen but given the amount of exclusive AAA games coming out this year and early next year, it seems highly unlikely.

The xbox 360 install base was significantly higher than the Xbone’s, though.

Exactly. It is numerically impossible for H5 to outsell H3 at launch.

I said MIGHT be able to but it’s looking pretty slim
Halo 5 will dominate! Rainbow six looks ok but comes across to much like battlefield hardline and won’t take much to get bored with. COD black ops3…advanced warfare without exo suites basically same COD same rubbish. Halo 5 all the way can’t wait.

Yeah, i’m fairly optimistic but only because the competition is weaker this time around. Black Ops 3 is nothing new etc. Battlefront 3 will be awesome, but that’s not going to mess with Halo as much. COD still continues to get a lot of sales however, there is an addictive quality to it. But for me, i’m over it. I’ve done my last prestige and wasted enough time on the COD series.
Halo 5 will definitely have a sizeable, sustained population after release. With that being said, it’s unlikely anything will rival Halo 3’s. As many have noted, the market is more diverse and saturated than ever, especially in regards to online competitive games, and Halo 3 was released during a time where it was the established king before the influx of all these new shooters.
Although that may seem unfortunate, I think everything will be just fine overall. Halo 5 will be great and has already won over a large portion of Halo traditionalists who were scathed by Halo 4’s odd changes. Also consider this: DLC will be free and there is a renewed focus on competitive arena gameplay (akin to that of Halo 2 & 3). Then there’s Warzone, which will totally reel in players looking for a more diverse, League of Legends/Destiny esque gameplay experience. With this in mind, I have full confidence that Halo 5 will have a large and sustained player population for months after its initial release. My prediction is that it will be the best since Halo 3, even if it doesn’t quite reach the heights set by its predecessor.
Depends what you define success as.
Id predict it settles in the 5-8 spot on xbl activity for about 6 months before slipping into oblivion.

Where do people get this from? Go back and look at 07 and 08. Those were stacked years.

That’s probably a valid prediction. Only a select few online games really stay relevant 6+ months after their release. Destiny and GTA V are particularly successful in this regard, which surprises me because I don’t really get why everyone loves Destiny so much.
To many fantastic video games for people to diversify themselves into nowadays to recreate the same type of stronghold Halo 2 or Halo 3 managed to have on the general gaming population back then; nevertheless, I think Halo 5’s multiplayer will prove to be an excellent FPS option for people to put a portion of their time into. For me personally, I think it’ll be at the top of my list of games played and continuously revisited.
