Halo 5’s new movement system with sprinting , clambering, sliding, and thrusting makes for more fast paced game that opens up new strategy when fighting. But there are a few problems with it when it comes to Halo multiplayer. In my opinion, the thing that defines halo multiplayer is the slow, strategical movements, not people running around at mach 3, and instantly going around a corner. 343 said that they would be “going back to the roots of Halo multiplayer” and “fixing mistakes from halo 4”, which they did in terms of weapons, and map design. But the movement in Halo 5 is just to call of duty-esk for it to be called a true halo multiplayer. Sprint, (even with the Nerf of it not recharging shields while in use) still has no place in halo. All of this sliding and clambering aren’t halo things. In original halos, if you were in a disadvantage in a wide open area, you had to outplay your opponent with a smart nade through or throwing of their aim with a quick crouch and jump or a quick melee, but in halo 5 now I can just press one button to zip back around a corner or sprint away. This doesn’t feel like Halo to me and alot of other players.
And before I get a mob of angry fanboys marching up my driveway, Halo 5 is not a bad game, its just not one that I particularly enjoy, these movement mechanics make war zone a better, more intricate game, but they do not have anyplace at all in arena.
I’m torn. On one hand it doesn’t feel like the Halo I’ve been playing for over a decade at all. On the other, I’m still enjoying most of my time with it. A rose by any other name, you know?
Why is this Halo is becoming Cod argument even brought up? Halo was always a sci-fi shooter, its Call of Duty that is trying to become a futuristic shooter.

Except this one is detailed and explains the viewpoint well.
I agree with the OP. Coming up with zany ways to zip around the map kills the flow and pacing I loved about classic Halo. It’s one of the primary reasons I didn’t/won’t but Halo 5. I’ll admit that Halo 5 looks like a good game, it just looks like a bad Halo game.
You all have to realize that halo was the very first fps and the original Xbox didn’t have the ability to do the things that the one can do and in all actuality Spartans should be able to do all these things I mean the are super soldiers wearing 1ton powered suits from the 25th century just saying if you want a slow fight then it should just be scorpion fights

While I disagree with the OP, this argument really only works for campaign or a firefight-esque mode.
How does what you are advocating fit into the game modes though? So you are suggesting that people play CTF and Strongholds without Sprint? I’m not sure how that would even be.
It’s a tough one because I really like the way that Halo 5 plays, it’s a great game but it definitely doesn’t feel like the old Halos. I really liked the slow pace of Halo, it made it a much deeper game in my opinion. Halo has to evolve though so I’m fine with the new fast Halo, it feels nice. Good thing we have the Master Chief Collection for slow Halo!

It would work like it did for the 10 years between Halo 1 and Halo 4. That is, it would work awesome.

They aren’t talking that literally. They mean Halo is copying what makes CoD so successful like in Halo 4, the loadouts, the aim assist and magnetism to make hitting the target easier, the fast pace game, etc…
As a veteran of all Halo multiplayer multiplayers 343i have done it all. They have gone back to the roots with the AR starts/power weapon control that made Halo 2 multiplayer awesome. They’ve also drawn more from the mythos of Spartans with the Spartan abilities. It’s well documented in the extended universe about the powerful abilities of the Spartans and in many games these powers weren’t usable. Now they are and it feels awesome. But also really weird. I’m certainly not used to the new abilities but they make sense within the universe.

who gives a -Yoink- what they are supposed to do?! its a -Yoinking!- game which should be balanced, challenging and make fun… h3 did this. sprints ruins the core game mechanics and yes, it feels like CoD. And for adding spartan charge, 343 should finally hand over the franchise to a company who actually cares.
