I just bought Halo 5: Guardians. Every website I have read about the ranking system says that while it is possible to move down in ranking, it is impossible to move down a tier (i.e. Gold to Silver) after losing. However, recently I moved up to Platinum 1 in SWAT, and then after losing it moved me back down to Gold 6. Why is this? Has there been a change in a recent update? Thanks in advance.

That change was quite awhile ago. Glad they made the change. If you aren’t winning you should de-rank accordingly
Basically you get a ranking after playing 10 matches, after a few months that resets and you have to play another 10 matches… once you get your rank for that season (based on your wins, not necessarily how good/bad you are at Halo) the more matches you lose, the more it goes down and vice versa. I tend to get Platinum 4 in SWAT when ranked, that goes down until I find some players to create a fireteam with, guarantees you the win if you have 4 good players averaging 15 kills each.
