We have been told that 4 v 4 is very important to halo 5. I love small team battle or slayer what ever you want to call it but I all so enjoy big team battle. But what if btb was bigger? can you imagine say 16 v 16 or 32 v 32 its not the thing for mlg but for just fun it is. I would love having an endless round of slayer where people drop in and out on a huge map or even timed ones but to have up to 64 people on a map 15 minutes wont do. invasion, ctf, slayer, dominion all would be great fun to have in a huge team battle or even multi team of if say 32 on the map 4 teams of 8. But how do you make a big enough map that looks and feels good and is FUN for being there an hour or 30 minutes or any time how do you have spawns work and it be balanced for some one there from the round start or as its ending? There would be problems to solve but if work out huge team battle as im calling it would be crazy fun. What do you think do you like slayer or btb do you wish it were bigger and how could 343 make it work.
Honestly, I think that 32 or 64 players would be too much for Halo. The thing about Halo is that its weapon set is perfect for games that have anywhere between 2 and 16 players. Even on a big team map like Valhalla, you can still use close ranged weapons like the Shotgun or the Assault Rifle, since there is a perfect blend of on-foot and vehicle combat. There is no weapon balance changes needed for bigger maps, everything works well.
But if we start doubling or quadrupling that number, things start to get even more messy. More players means even bigger maps. On these bigger maps, the usefulness of close-ranged weapons would diminish, since the sightlines would either be huge, or there would be so many more vehicles. Depending on the size of the map, the BR itself might even prove to be inefficient, as players might just go and prefer the DMR instead. Halo has never been about long-ranged combat as its main focus, since close-medium range has always been dominant. Within the close-medium range, you still have the need to outmaneuver your enemy with strafing. At long-ranged combat, all of this would be lost. Only a small percentage of the weapon sandbox would be truly useful on these large maps, losing the ability to effectively use most of the weapons would render the gametype rather dull.
Furthermore, as there are more players on the team, the less that one player’s individual skill matters. In a team of 8, a really good player can do a lot to carry his team to victory. But in a team of 16? or 32? Even if that player got 20 more kills than all of his other allies, it would be negligible. You wouldn’t feel like you’re a part of an organized team.
And on the subject of an organized team, how are you supposed to work and create a plan with a team of 16 or 32? In 8v8, it’s already hard enough for everybody to work together towards an objective. In 16v16 or 32v32, it would be utter chaos.
No, I have to say that I’m against the inclusion of a “huge big team” gametype in Halo. It would take away all that makes Halo great, and just give us a chaotic mess.
People say 4v4 is important to Halo but recently I’ve noticed that 3v3 plays better for Halo.
I’m not sure if Halo’s gameplay would work well with a large number of players. I would be open to an expansion to 12v12 however. Maps wouldn’t have to be that much bigger, and they could also be used for team snipers, race, and maybe some new modes as well (8v8v8 or 6v6v6v6).
I can see 12v12 on some specific maps, but no higher. Once you surpass 32 players, you start getting into a whole other genre, which Halo is not.
For these big playlist it would have to be 12v12 or MAX 16v16.
I would love to see a city map like ODST where there are open streets for longer ranged battles and enterable buildings for closer ranged battles. There would be open courtyards to use as control points and buildings with windows for Snipers.
The most I can see Halo BTB is 12v12 after that I feel that I will be insignificant.
64 players satisfies me! Just look at maps on halo reach like boneyard for example 16 player btb only fills half of the map so 32 players are already an exception but 64? Yes! All they have to do is make maps that are twice as big as boneyard, spire etc. And 4v4 people who like small matches. Well 4v4 is really for everyone’s appearance anyone can bend the match from win or lose and 32v32 will be all focused on teamwork- adding that much in will probably allow us to have elephants, pelicans and phantoms all the vehicles we always wanted. There’s nothing wrong with it and 343 has already made 4v4 maps so those who want to stick to 4v4 and 8v8 those playlists will be there. Let’s hope 343 considers this because not only me but ALOT of people will be satisfied I already know people hate the idea but master chief collection is what will have the original halo feel. No need to keep re vamping the classic experience in next gen…but like I said there’s always playlists for those who choose differently.

4v4 focuses on teamwork more than a larger gametype. Also how are 32 players supposed to communicate with each other?
> 64 players satisfies me!
Then play Battlefield? That entire game is fine tuned to big size MP.
> Just look at maps on halo reach like boneyard for example 16 player btb only fills half of the map so 32 players are already an exception but 64?
It is not about filling the map, nearly all maps have hot zones and cold zones even in 4v4, more players will not change the fact certain parts of the map will be used.
Also Boneyard was not really a BTB map but an invasion map, its design was made with that gametype in mind and at first only half of the map would be unlocked and even then nearly all the action was supposed to partake on the crashed ship.
> Yes! All they have to do is make maps that are twice as big as boneyard, spire etc.
It’s not just maps that fit it, it is gameplay, the AR is now seen as one of the most useless weapons because the majority of the maps are stretched out with few cover points.
Games like BF have a short TTK, fast reload speed, overall pretty far range and more kills/mag, if you have to address those issues you simply end up with a completely different game.
Not to mention they have a class based system because if you keep Arena for such large scaled combat, anyone with a sniper would have the advantage most of the time or the fact it is hard to combat the amount of vehicles the enemy team could acquire, as all it takes is one quick snipe and you can be set for life (try to recover the sniper rifle on a larger map than Ragnarok before it despawns), same with vehicles, games like Battlefield make you spawn with rocket launchers who are tuned to do most damage against vehicles over infantry…
> And 4v4 people who like small matches. Well 4v4 is really for everyone’s appearance anyone can bend the match from win or lose
And BTB can’t why? The sniper even spawns inside of the base…
I’ve seen many games were I could just sit back and watch one team mate kill everyone with a tank, heck sometimes I was the guy in the tank.
> and 32v32 will be all focused on teamwork-
Not really, you would barely be able to communicate let alone filter anything since everyone reports throughout the entire map, in a 4V4 there can only be 4 calllouts for enemy players but 32 players would be absolute chaos for chatter and teamwork.
It is why Battlefield has those squad setups so you can filter what your squad says from the entirety of your team meaning in the end you still play with only 6 players or so.
We already betray on the BTB for the sniper rifle, if 2 of those spawn there would definitely be a guy wanting both for the ammo.
> adding that much in will probably allow us to have elephants, pelicans and phantoms all the vehicles we always wanted.
That does not make them balanced or working in conjungation with any other part of the Sandbox, I already explained many times (to you) why these vehicles pose a problem in the Halo sandbox, especially the latter two.
> There’s nothing wrong with it and 343 has already made 4v4 maps so those who want to stick to 4v4 and 8v8 those playlists will be there.
There is and 343 still needs to make 4v4 and 8v8 maps.

Again it would not fix that the entire Halo Sandbox is focused on lower scale combat to begin with and always has, just because the MCC exists does not mean we shouldn’t be getting a new Halo that is focused on Arena and like other said, they’re are games out there that are made to what you like, Halo does not have to be turned into one of them.
What you are asking is for Halo to become a completely different game and there is no need for that.
64 seems like too much, but I could imagine 16v16 gametypes. Big maps, plenty of vehicles…sounds like a fun time. As long as the core focus remains on the traditional playlists and gameplay, I see no issue with a Super Big Team Battle.
Spartanc18 has pretty much got all the right ideas.
Too add to what he said about Battlefield maps and squad. Even in Battlefield many of the maps were designed for 10v10,12v12 and play perfectly fine, but have the option to play on 32v32 and even with squad it is still a very chaotic experience. Squad wont make up for the other 28 players on the team that are not coordinated with you.
Halo has never been about chaos, I could see max 10v10 or 12v12.
It’s difficult to say, they could implement it with well-designed maps and it could still turn out that it’s absolutely horrible. I think it’s definitely worth trying out, but I don’t think anything above 16v16 could ever work out in Halo. 12v12 could work out really well for gametypes like Invasion.
I would like to see 16v16, but I think that 32v32 would be too big. 16v16 wouldn’t require much larger maps, and slightly bigger maps with more vehicle play would be spectacular. 16v16 also wouldn’t be big to the point where we need a vehicle sandbox overhaul, which would be nice.
Doing something like this would best be done through a separate gametype, rather than making such a drastic alteration to a much loved formula.
BTB as it stands is quite boring. There are far too few players. Maybe 64 is too many, but 32 could work.
Going beyond a 16 player game would be problematic in Halo 5. Most players would be expecting an arena style game, and even 8v8 tests the definition of arena.
Big Team Battle was introduced as “something different” in Halo 2; a chance to use the entire sandbox (at least the stuff that works) in multiplayer. Although well received, many here have pointed out issues with scaling it up. Having a large scale multiplayer game alongside the traditional games we’re going to get with H5 is just asking too much. People that want large-scale battles should push for a different game, designed from the ground up to work with the entire sandbox and lots of players. This is what many of us were thinking we were going to get when Halo Wars was announced.
I’m sure it will happen some day. Perhaps between the release of H5 and H6?
12v12 or 10v10. Anymore and it will feel like battlefield.
Personally, I think 16v16 would be awesome!
I’m hoping for 100 vs 100, at the minimum. To see how this would work out, check out my idea here (click here to see my idea). But yeah, I wanna see btb go bigger!
