Halo 5 logic and questions about core play

Me: Let’s warm up with core play, whatever that is.

1st game: Yeah let’s match him with a former #6 Champion and his 4 stack.

two players quit immediately

Me: FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

In all seriousness, I don’t mind a challenge. I actually like being matched against these guys because it makes you a better player. I just seriously think Social needs to drop this hidden rank thing. I like sweating but I don’t want to sweat immediately with no warm-up game. Also…can someone explain Core Play to me? Is it basically Team Arena Social? And if so, why not just call it that?

Oh, Core Play is out? Gonna have to try that.

Yeah, Core Play is basically social Team Arena, while the ranked Team Arena is now occupied by HCS stuff, I believe. I just hope this will help me finish my CTF and Strongholds commendations faster, getting capture sprees is hard when everyone is your skill level or higher.

Well from what I’ve seen I wouldn’t count on it my dude. It seems like ranked just without the CSR lol. Thanks for the response!

Not to mention it seems like everyone wants to be an individual and there is very little actual teamwork when solo queuing.

yeah social always seem to become the opposite. there still is some skill matching involved in social playlist as well. I still enjoy it though.

I’ve only done a handful of matches and enjoyed core so far. Most of the games have been fairly lopsided but overall its a nice addition and its great theirs still some new ideas being brought in to keep halo 5 limping along until we get to infinite.

I have played probably 30-40 games in the new core play with a team of three plus a random. We have won most (90+%) of them. Even matched a 343 employee and beat them. Our group has an onyx, plat, and gold player. So a good mix. Our random is definitely at a disadvantage since we are in a party but most have worked well with us. Our onyx player won’t go into ranked with us (he has a different group he plays ranked with) and neither of the other two like WZ. Being more than 2 we can’t do quick play and we get tired of super fiesta, so it has been great.

You can still count it as a warm up even if you play champs. Social matchmaking disregards mmr after 40 seconds of searching so that champ team could have been searching for a while and now the game just put them into a game so they could play.

It does suck that your teammates quit though. Although imo you should just quit at that point since it’s social and doesn’t matter.

If they dropped the MMR matchmaking in social then it would be even worse since actually bad kids would constantly be destroyed and games would very rarely be close. I’m usually onyx/champ but my social games are normally pretty close and interesting due to the hidden MMR matchmaking. And core play is the old team arena playlist just now it’s social. They wanted the competitive 4v4 playlist to not be split between HCS and team arena anymore (never should have been split in the first place) so they made HCS into team arena this season. The didn’t call the new playlist team arena social since that would be confusing by having 2 playlists that have different maps, gametypes and game settings.

I’ve been solo queuing Core Play to warm up and I’m not sure what the deal is but my team has generally been winning by solid margins knocks on wood. I say “my team” because it’s not like I’m carrying every game by any means. Maybe my MMR is lower than it should be and I’m getting stacked teams? I generally play in the evenings (US Central time) so population shouldn’t be an issue.

It is really nice having a social playlist that’s not Quick Play. Hopefully this brings more of the Social Arena players into Ranked Arena and makes them interested in Team Arena/HCS/and so on.
