Halo 5 limited collectors edition disappointment

I’m heavily disappointed with the quality and quantity of the swag in this edition. So to start off I want people to understand that I’m not trying to whine and complain but voice my disappointment over these things. The statues size and quality are nice but I look back at halo reach’s legendary edition and look at all the amazing stuff that came with that and the quality of it too. Halo reach came with a mountain statue, halseys journal, and a bunch of stuff crammed into the book. Everything felt like it would be from the Halo universe as if you were right in it. Now we get this giant statue, which again, is nice, but the paper with Spartan Lockes orders and the bios of the Spartans are on this cheap flimsy paper that feel nothing like they came from ONI or the UNSC. I Mean when I read that those things came with it I was expecting some hard plastic semi transparent cards that looked like something from straight out of the game, instead if you spill your drink on it they’ll be ruined and no longer collectibles. You also paid a fraction of the cost for Reach and again far superior quality and quantity. I hope you step your game up with Halo 6, 343, as this is not acceptable. I’ve had every legendary edition or whatever the highest collectible one was since Halo 2 (except for ODST which only offered a controller) and this one by far failed to deliver any kind of satisfaction. To top it off you get a steal book case, that if you do the trade in for a disc, can’t even hold a damn disc in it… Seriously who was the brains on this one guys?

anyways I’ve said my peace, and ranted enough. Here’s hoping I’m not alone and they improve next time!

I agree with you. The statue is great but that’s really about it. I was really disappointed in all of the bios and especially Locke’s orders. The fact that it has the French version on the back just ruined it for me. Like you said…nothing really feels like it came out of the universe.

I agree.

The statue is flawless, and everything is nice…but it felt like i paid 150$ extra for just a statue and a steelbook. The stuff inside was cool, but like you said, didn’t really feel authentic.

I wish it came with something digital that truly set the LCE apart from the LE, like Reachs Flaming Helmet. Other than that, I feel my purchase was worth, but it could’ve been better.
I was really sad that Lockes orders were folded in half in the Steelbook, leaving a huge disgusting crease that I’ve been trying to flatten out.

My guess is when they ship you a disc, they’ll include a sticky disc holder like the ones holding the discs in Halo 3’s Limited Edition.

But yeah, I was disappointed, too. The box is huge, and the statues are superb (although, the surprise in the black bag startled me) and I like that the two can stick together via magnets, but the overall presentation was lacking. Halo Reach had a 10 -sided box that was thick, and the styrofoam was molded to nicely present the black box, and had ONI engraving. Halo 5 does none of that, and just has a random edge holding the steelbook. Hell, technically the statues are stored upside down, which is weird.

The paper extras were entirely useless. No cool plastic tray like Halo 4 with interesting details, no expansive book bursting with plastic extras like Reach, no hardcover book like Halo 3. Heck. I would even argue that the regular edition disc is much nicer than the limited edition version!

Took you this long to realize all those special editions are a waste of money?
And why are you complaining when they outlined exactly what was in the editions along with countless of unboxing videos that have been posted weeks ago?

I never said that they were a waste of money, clearly you missed what I was saying, I said I was unsatisfied with what my money paid for, not that I wasted my money. Also that this was the first time I have been unsatisfied. All of the other limited editions I have gotten from the halo games in the past I have been very satisfied with them. I also don’t really think unboxing videos do justice to what everything feels/look like, besides I had already bought and paid for mine long before all of the videos had come out. I do however sense a troll here, trying to stir the pot and cause drama. We are all entitled to our own opinions and feelings and clearly I’m not the only person who felt this way. As someone else stated even the collectors edition for halo 4 had better quality stuff in it AND as someone else said why is there a French side (Canada)! I didn’t realize that the UNSC was bilingual with French and English? Anyways…

I’m glad I didn’t get the collector’s edition then, it would be the same let down from when I got the Halo 3 collector’s edition.

Having been in the print industry my entire working career I can agree with the OP about the touch and feel quality. Glossy paper, but of a light basis weight (i.e. magazine stock) is flimsy in your hand and does not exude “quality” in a touch and feel aspect.

For example, the Limited edition for Destiny had a little perfect bound (glued) book with it which had a decent amount of pages in it to make it appear (touch and feel) like a substantial piece (because they made it small 6x9") and then they also provided this foux-leather book jacket to wrap around it that looked like a dossier you would get in the game world. Just those simple changes/little touches made it feel like a higher quality/value piece.

Although I would say from the videos Major Nelson and 343 put up online and IGN did with their console unboxing where the extra elements and the cards themselves were shown (IGN opened the green package with the individual cards) they did appear to be this way and its not really shocking to me what we got.

For this reason I bought only digital edition.
In my halo 4 all collectors paper was in German and for me completely understandable.

I think the little metal statue you get with the LE edition is rubbish - teeny tiny little jigsaw that I can’t be bothered to build. Wished I had gone for the Standard Edition or Digital.

yea I’m severely disappointed in this collectors edition as well. I was hoping a bit more bang for the buck and as you said the statue is nice, but I paid $270 and I don’t even get a hard disk (which is my fault for downloading without realizing I could trade, but still) and the metal guardian statue was crap and broke for no reason while I was assembling it. The Halo Reach collectors was 20x better than this one. I feel like I essentially paid for an overpriced statue, which again is nice but not worth $270. Hopefully the req packs that come with this thing are good and at least I can be excited about the animated series that comes with it.

That sticky disc holder still gives me nightmares

That’s why I just bought the limited Ed.

Not to sound racially superior but I was put off by the back side of all the documents being wasted by having the EXACT SAME THINGS stated in spanish…I mean what the heck, did the UNSC do that in case you were randomly kidnapped by space faring Spaniards

I was disappointed with the multilingual prints as well. I mean, if the goal is authenticity and multilingualism then make two cards, one in each language, and make them well.

But, for me, the draw wasn’t the cards so much as the information on them and that was pretty cool. I didn’t see the reveal of that info, so opening it up and seeing birthdays, last names, and other details about Blue was pretty cool. Now that I’ve read them they’re back in the metal case and sealed up probably to never be opened again.

The main draw for me is the statue. This is the first game that really feels like the universe is going to change and that statue captures that mood. When they’re magnetized together it looks like they’re somehow coming through the same door targeting each other. When they’re in bookend mode it looks like they’re kinda back/back working in the same squad to a common goal. Maybe I’m reading too much into it.

The detail is good, the molding is excellent, and the coloring is true to the game. The cracked visor for the Chief is even there. The only negative about it is that Locke’s rifle is bent to fit it into his hands, and I didn’t notice that until someone else pointed it out so I guess few if any of the people that I know will see it either. The price is a little steep, but this being the first time I’ve ever been able to do this, and being the junction of a change in the universe, is a good place to start, IMO.

I buy this

I’m just glad I’m not the only one who feels this way.
