Halo 5: Likes, dislikes, and hopes for the future

After seeing Halo 5 gameplay on Youtube, I was hooked. After getting that Xbox bundle and beating the campaign in one day, I was a bit disappointed, but ready to play the next installment. After playing multiplayer for about 340-50 something matches, I had a better view of the game.

Halo 5 is my favourite playing Halo game in the series. It runs so -Yoinking!- well it’s almost unbelievable after Halo 4. I don’t know why people complain about sprint, spartan abilities, and clamber, because for me they add to the variety. I also get my -Yoink- kicked sprinting into battle (w/out energy sword), so I’ve got nothing to complain about there. Anyways, here’s my list.

LIKES

  • Gameplay is beautiful. It’s well balanced and I can use the assault rifle now due to the fact that Spartans were finally trained to aim weapons even without a scope. - Armour Customization. That sounds weird, but since you limited it, you’ve added a ton of new amour models, more than Halo 4 even. Plus, the re-skins always help making yourself more unique. - 60 FPS. Sometimes I forget, because it works (and because I don’t play much aside from Halo). - Remixes. As long as these don’t take more of the DLC map spaces, I’ll be fine with them. Especially if they’re changed as drastically as Riptide (Riptide is possibly my favourite Arena map) and that swampy one (forgot the name, whoops) - The Halo 5 soundtrack. It’s great. With a much better sound than Halo 4’s (in my opinion) and the classic Halo theme kept in, I thought it was really great and felt like in fit in with the rest of the Halo games (minus 4).DISLIKES

  • Campaign. Good start, terrible filler, great cliffhanger. Just, get a new writer. Halo 4 was arguably the best Chief campaign, and ODST was the best in general for me (I never got Halo 2 and Wars). With the possibilities that Halo 4 opened up, and Halo 5 closed, I was disappointed. - Less Blue team missions. I would’ve liked 4 or 5, especially with the fact that you just assume Blue team has been circle jerkin’ in a forerunner planet while Osiris takes their long -Yoink- time to find them. The point is, you have no idea what they’ve been doing while they’re on the planet. - Lack of gametypes. I’m sorry to bring this one up, since you’re working on them after the community backlash, but we really need gametypes. No doubt about it, but I am looking more specifically for the big casual ones. Grifball is apparently in the works, and a few other gametypes too, but I need something to get away from competitive stuff (I’m looking at you infection). - 60 FPS. Confusing, right? Well, I never played MCC, but I liked a few things. First of all, it was 60 FPS locked, but the engine wasn’t built around getting a solid FPS. If there were drops, I don’t think they’d be to drastic. I put this here for all those splitscreeners out there. I understand this can’t be implemented now, but Halo 6 maybe?THE FUTURE!!!

  • That 60 FPS deal. Halo 6. Just because I miss seeing casual players with a (1) next to their gamertag… and people miss being that friend with the (1) next to their gamertag. - Gametypes seem to be well done and on their way, but I need Infection/Flood. HALO 2 ANNIVERSARY FLOOD to be specific. I saw that -Yoink- and was like “WOAH, FLOOD LEARNED HOW TO USE GUNS AGAIN!” and “WOAH, YOU CAN JUST CHOOSE SPARTANS AS INFECTED!? AWESOME!” That was the perfect way to do Flood (plus the infected models were even better), and I’d like to see that again. Especially with you taking your time and all that. - Halo 6 can be the best Halo if you fix these problems now, and improve your already exceptional player service for the next game. Just, don’t get too rushed, I’d love to Play Halo 5 right now. - ELITES! Just like my problem seeing no more splitscreeners, I miss seeing these giants on the battlefield. Improving on the Elites in reach, you should keep the same Arena balancing act of Elite only and Spartan only playlists. Allow them in ALL custom games (even CUSTOM GAMES ARENA) and forge, but not to assigned colour teams (for example, if a player’s preferred species is an Elite, let ‘em play with Spartans as an Elite on the blue team). Also, Elites can bring back invasion. It was fun, you should do it. Improving on customization, give them all Elite Armors like in Reach, but allow them to at least mix n’ match helmets. So that’s all I’ve got to say. I’d be really happy if any of this is taken into consideration. One last thing about the Elites, I know you’ll have to do some new animations and stuff like that, so if you do plan on implementing them, sending off Halo 5 DLC with a covenant update would be cool, featuring playable Elites and whatnot. Just make sure you peoples learn from Halo 5, 'cause I love Halo, and I know you all do too.

POST EDIT: I have to bring up the REQ system. Right now, my only problem is that the only things that are unlocked through commendations, are the emblems. I also have a bit of a problem that the mythic legendary stuff isn’t unlocked through certain tasks. I’m worried about the REQ system though, because right now I kind of like it. What I hate about micro transactions in a AAA title, is cosmetic/gameplay paywalls (don’t make a spartan armour you can only buy with cash), and high in game prices (REQ points). So far you’ve avoided that (I don’t care about the HCS pack since it’s for the “MLG” or collectors anyway, I was surprised you even released it to the public). If you can avoid this and fix the current FIXABLE issues with the game, Halo 5 will probably be the best Halo I’ve ever played.

At this rate, no one’s going to see this. -Yoink-.

nice list, I’m sure plenty of people saw it. just nothing that already hasn’t been said a hundred times here :stuck_out_tongue:

some great unique points, the soundtrack is awesome, however i enjoy the 60 fps

elites would be awesome, see: 1500 page thread about it

I don’t care so much about campaign, my concerns are for multiplayer.

First off, I want sprint gone for good. We’ve had awful, awful maps this time around, and sprint is a big cause for that. Plus, I enjoy my Halo without sprint. Halo 2 and 3 are still loads more fun to me than H5 is.

Secondly, REQs need to disappear or be completely redone. Remove aesthetics from them. Make armors, stances and stuff unlockable via achievements and commendations. And we don’t need 40 damn mongoose and warthog skins. It’s pathetic how hard they’re trying to fill the REQ packs with garbage to get as much money as they can.

Third, we need content. There is no way 343 doesn’t know what all is missing from this game (that should have been at launch).

And finally, I hope that we are never lied to as badly as we were with Halo 5’s launch. They didn’t just lie about the campaign, but the map totals we got was a huge lie to. 21 multiplayer maps at launch? They counted the 6 forged Breakout maps, the forge canvases, Orion (which has been gone forever now), 2 remixes, and they counted Warzone assault as 3 maps. That’s less than ten maps, and very few maps for non-breakout play. It’s insulting.

I say they add different game variants in play lists. Not game modes (which I do agree upon) but different games inside the specific Playlist, such as swat in halo 4 I loved the different weapons that we were able to use like the carbine or the light rifle. Now it’s just the battle rifle and pistol I would love to use a light rifle in swat, to me it would be a lot of fun and keep the Playlist interesting.

I want to see vehicular combat playlists.

Gungoose CTF especially but dogfighting phaetons & banshees would also be appreciated.

That’s it really! A trickle of additional maps would be nice.

Gungoose strongholds would also work

And the radar … it’s impossible to make four shoots if u see a red point in radar behind you (or if it’s a noob)
Some gamer sprint sprint and when you se him in the radar = to late ! Boum! Spartan charge ! and you take a ONE shoot !
And most abused = if he have a sword = not to late , you are already dead because when you see him in the radar ,he already has lock you …

I think it`s a good game atm

Future:
I am hopeful that the series goes back to playing like a Halo game again by simplifying and slowing down the gameplay. As it is now, the dislikes far outweigh the likes and there isn’t enough enjoyment to be found in Halo 5 to make me play it again.

I’ve got to say, I don’t have much of a problem with what you’re saying, but I really like the spartan abilities. I just miss some of the smaller scale maps, like Chiron TL-34. That map never made a return and I loved it. It’s not that they can’t do these maps with the spartan abilities (although I hate SCharge), they’re just taking the easy way out with most of the map designs. The reason Riptide is one of my favourites is because it’s a medium sized map, with smaller corridor sections, and a area for team on team battle. If they could make more maps like that, I’d love to see 'em. Too bad they’ve got one (in my opinion).

Thinking about it more, Chiron is a bad example since it was made for 4 player splitscreen/slayer

I have to agree with you on everything but the sprint. Yes, sprint had some influence on maps but not a whole lot. Just because “halo 2 and 3 are loads more fun” doesn’t mean that sprint is causing you to not have a better time. I think OP got it right. It adds variety but you shouldn’t be jumping into firefights or else you’re dead. Sprint is just more to the sandbox. In my opinion, it also requires some strategy to use effectively.
