I’m interested to see how the new dynamic of not being alone during missions in campaign is going to be affected by people who are gonna try LASO runs bc typically the ai is ridiculously brutal on solo and it generally becomes a “how can I manipulate the game/what I can I just skip” kind of situation. Will the team ai also rise in usefulness or are they just gonna drop like flies constantly.

LASO on halo 5 is going to be the hardest game to complete out of all the Halo games so far. Some levels you have to engage in combat rather than just running ducking and diving like past installments. SPOILERS****** How hard is the first blue team mission going to be at the end when you’re in that loading bay fighting grunts, jackals, elites, and hunters on LASO and you have to kill them all to end the mission. The A.I are practically useless on legendary anyway so doing it LASO will make them even worse.
It will be brutal. I’ve never been motivated to try any of the Halos LASO. I’ve done all legendary solo, including 5. The hardest part for me was the first encounter with the Warden. I had to exploit it to get him finished. Although, I danced with the 3 Wardens at the last encounter…so now I think I could do it without the exploit.
I never thought I would defend the AI in this game, but totally useless is a bit of an exaggeration. You have to know how to use them and DO NOT rely on them to get anything done. I got a few revives from them that were clutch and keeping them up and alive proved helpful. However, I do agree the bragging about the AI for the Spartan teammates was a bit over done. It is not that good. It reminded me of the show Silicon Valley where the developers are talking up their product to the boss…so the boss is telling everyone how great it is…but really its bad and no one has much of a clue about how bad. I think this has been a trend in marketing and game development (and politics)…if we tell everyone its great and good and the best then that’s what really counts anyways. Games will sell, people might complain…but we made our money. Add to the that this sort of echo chamber developers find themselves in where ideas or mechanics may just get “yes men” reviewing them. And you see things like this emerge.
Anyone play StarWars Republic Commando? That to me is the best squad based shooter AI I’ve played with ever. The range of commands and the execution of the commands made the AI squad mates useful and fun to utilize. I was SO hoping that this was how Halo 5 was going to work…I was excited to see that type of execution done again on a current gen console. I was disappointed. Well, leaves room for improvement for 343. I recommend anyone doing the AI for the squad mates plays Republic Commando. I think it is a good model from which to work. A starting point 343 should reference…they can do better and should do better. I don’t want to see them abandon the squad mechanic…they just need to do better.
It is indeed going to be the hardest Halo LASO.
Spoiler!!! You can skip the three wardens in the second to last mission, however. But still, damn. The guys who do it and post their runs like Tyrant, RC and all them, are going to have their work cut out for them. Anyway, there’s a video of how to skip the three wardens:
LASO is done for
Probably not as bad as halo 2 laso. Besides you just give a.I weapons and target enemies and they aren’t that useless
