halo 5 lan support is a must

given that the x1 is capable of true LAN support, there is no reason why this shouldn’t be put into halo 5(especially after the embarassing amounts of dsc at the hcs season 2 finals). this should take priority over any other requested features at the moment as it is completely doable before release.

Umm…you’re argument is implying that 343i took out traditional LAN support simply because they wanted to? From my understanding, they took it out because all Halo 5 multiplayer requires dedicated servers and therefore local LAN is not “completely doable”.

Gears 3 had dedis and lan so what you heard is false.

343 took it out most likely due to time and resources as no lan was mention along with splitscreen. But unlike split screen this issue is on MS as its simply a matter of requesting lan support like the coalition did for gears

Why is LAN support a must? You stated that, and then did not provide any supporting evidence.

I’m not trying to be a prude, but I don’t care about LAN support and you certainly didn’t convince me it was important. That’s all.

My thing is why do you need LAN support when you can get in a custom group online and do the same thing just on a dedicated server. The only reason LAN is important is in tournament settings only that’s it.

Well seeing all the D/C during the HCS yesterday… I think it may be a idea that 343I should look into if they really want Halo 5 to be part of the Esports bracket

Did you watch HCS yesterday?
I didn’t count but they had several disconnects, while this already annoying for you and your buddies playing splasers or MM but it’s getting ridiculous when you’re playing for quite a big amount of money…those dedicated servers are nice but they won’t do -Yoink- if XBL has issues (which seems to happen more frequently lately)

Dedicated servers and LAN isnt the same thing. HCS is being a shame with Pros playing a broken game.

Yeah, any time XBL has issues, disconnects happen which is terrible for tournament play. If 343 really wants to overtake COD for competitive (which will be switching to PS4 without the always-connected XB1 issues), they need tournaments to run smoothly. This tourney had WAY too many restarts, some of which turned the tide for certain teams (Optic sort of got screwed).

WE NEED LAN!

I don’t plan on participating in HCS anytime soon, what with my barely positive KDR and the inability to use the sniper rifle. So what you’re saying is that LAN is important for tournaments? Well, that makes it pretty low on my list of important features. Again, not trying to start a fight, I’m trying to give you the opportunity to convince me it’s important. My xbox stays plugged into my wall and uses wifi. All the time, that’s all it ever does. So why would I individually want 343i to use their time and resources to implement LAN?

In the OP, it was said it should take priority over other requests, and I just can’t agree with that yet.

Isn’t LAN just not supported on the Xbox One in general? I’m pretty sure 343 has to use a custom rig to do HCS on LAN. I remember hearing that you can also rig something up yourself for LAN, if you don’t mind the cost.

Gears 4 comes out Holiday 2016. Halo 5 comes out in 3 months… Bit late now for 343 to start doing it.

Hcs brings in money for halo, hcs needs lan. Its that simple. To be frank having to explain the importance of lan for halo tournies that actively promote and grow the population of halo gamers in depth is unnessasary for anyone who been with this game long enough. And tbh i dont care for the “it doesnt matter to me” jargan.

I’m sorry to have seemingly offended you, I will respectfully discontinue my participation in this thread. Might I suggest responding to d The Doctor b and IP3ARSONx’s points?
Cheers!

Sorry OP but 343i said LAN is not going to happen.

If they can have LAN for GOW on XB One, no reason H5 can’t have it.

Getting this thread back on topic, the gamescon invitational tournament will be held using halo 5 this fall. Given that this will be the last showcase of the game before launch it is important for it too run smoothly as people are still pissed about the mcc woes. Being that hcs finals went from 26k in day 1 to 14k in day 2, these mishaps cannot be repeated. A launch or post launch patch with ms is doable given that the issue with lanning on x 1 is software related as evidenced by the coalitions efforts with gears. MS passed on cod to support halo and gears so the money is there. The only reason that makes sense on 343s part is that they want a smooth launch and will implement lan once they know it works 100%. But given the pseudo lan servers there using, its going to make people hesistant to watch dscs at a tourny for a game releasing in a couple of days.

You’re assuming it went from 26k to 14k because of the lack of LAN ability?

I didn’t know Gears was going to have LAN. Everything I’ve read on the matter says the Xbox One just doesn’t support it. Maybe something popped up recently that I didn’t see.

Yes. And if anyone’s watching the tournament this weekend, you’ll see how many times players have been disconnected from the matches 8 MONTHS POST LAUNCH. This is beyond ridiculous. Like its said, LAN is a must.
